Walker Little showed last year that he's more than capable of starting at LT.  No reason to reach for an OT in the draft, or overpay in free agency.  Use the cap space to fill true needs like WR and TE, and IOL.

^ this.  Little was drafted in the 2nd round last year to be groomed/developed as Cam's replacement.  I don't see them tagging Cam unless they convince him to move positions, which he will not want to do.  With an upgrade needed at RT, I think there are some solid and more affordable free agent options available, in addition to some potentials in the draft.

Care to name a few? Cause FA RT looks awfully outside of Brown to me. Outside of 1.01, do you see any day 1 starters at RT in the draft? I see a few developmental RT candidates I really like, but not that I would trust to start day 1.

If we don't tag Cam I think it puts us extremely behind the 8 ball with very few options outside of creating a hole just to fill it with the #1 pick.

Tomorrow is the deadline to franchise tag players.  If they do not use it on Cam Robinson that tells us they are either comfortable with little or looking to replace him in free agency or the draft.   This also tells us how the team see's the previous talent on the team.

I don't see any direct correlation between tagging Cam and how they feel about Little. 

They should have their minds made on Little regardless of what they do with Cam.

 If they are wise they plan to start Little at LT while bringing in a new RT (or tagging Cam to play there) and upgrading their swing tackle to solidify both spots.

Jawaan Taylor had an awful 60 PFF grade this past year, and definitely did not pass my eye test.  I was thinking of Trent Brown (79 grade) and Morgan Moses (71 grade) when I wrote the statement.  Also, Ifedi, Remmers, and Massie are free agents that I wouldn't want, but do represent an upgrade based on grade to Taylor.  I am not a scout analyzing other teams' depth, but I would advocate also looking at the rosters for trade candidates.  You may find a promising young guy stuck behind the starters.  On the rookie side, if the Jags take a RT candidate, they have the ability of sticking with Taylor on an interim basis if needed, until the rookie develops or gains trust.  Every rookie drafted at every position is a crap shoot, and is never 100%....but teams still draft anyway.

I agree.  However, I don't want them to pay Cam a roughly $17m tag figure to be a one year band-aid.  I want to see the RT position get established for the foreseeable future.  If thats determined to be Cam, I would like them to work out a deal with him that pays him a market number for his level of performance.  I do understand that the Jags will likely need to pay him a slight premium over that figure to stay in Jax.

I'm so glad they did that.   I think Hutchinson will do more for this team than any other pick.

And like I've said a million times before, one good way to protect Trevor Lawrence is to have a good enough defense that we won't have to constantly play from behind.

It shouldn't. We still need a swing tackle/RT of the future. I just didn't want to waste a high pick on one, since I see the same quality OT's in the middle rounds.

Two OTs broke the goldilocks SS threshold of 4.47. Every scenario I have done since then has had us tagging Cam, taking EDGE at 1, and then drafting Lucas or Diesch at 65 or 70 to develop for a year and be the RT of the future.

We're 1/3 of the way there.

I like the benefit that there is one less hole to fill. However, it makes me sad to realize that Baalke has now spent about $20m of the $59m cap space to make no change from last year's train wreck. I hope the money is spent going forward to improve the roster.

There will be some good TE options in rounds 2-3 as well. If we can sign an excellent WR in FA and draft a TE who can catch, we will have made some significant improvements.
