Shopping at the top would be a very unusual surprise for Jags fans!

Love the idea of building up the OL and DL in FA . . . I wonder if the wide receivers are too expensive.

Pederson is a believer that it starts in the trenches.  He is right!

Baalke said in a recent video “It’s no mystery that we are looking for receivers, it’s a position of need so we are going to pay extra attention to it” when evaluating wr’s at the combine. So I’d expect them to atleast draft 1 high and possibly also throw some decent money at 1 in free agency.

There isn't much in free agency at the OL, and WR and TE were thinned out with the franchise tags. I do think the Jags will make a run at signing Allen Robinson and making a decent offer to Chark. Maybe Zach Ertz too.

Jaguars come on down! You're the next contestant on "The Price Is (isn't) Right"!

Don't overpay. Build through the draft, no exceptional talent is coming here until the franchise can produce a respectible season.

I think it's relative to what it's in the market Vs. what's on the roster as it stands. There's plenty of potential in the market next week to improve at multiple positions. They were dead last on offense last year and 28th overall on defense.

Here's your receiving group from last year:
Marvin Jones - 73 Catches - 832 Yards - 4 TD's
Laviska Shenault - 63 Catches - 619 Yards - 0 TD's
Laquon Treadwell - 33 Catches - 434 Yards - 1 TD
Dan Arnold - 28 Catches - 324 Yards - 0 TD's (Midseason trade, 3 games started, finished on IR after playing in 8 games)
James O'Shaughnessy - 34 Catches - 244 Yards - 0 TD's (Only 6 games started, missed most of the year, only played in 7 games)
Jamal Agnew - 24 Catches - 229 Yards - 1 TD (Only 2 games started, finished on IR after playing in 10 games)
DJ Chark - 7 Catches - 154 Yards - 2 TD's (Only 4 games started due to IR)

Here's your options in free agency next week:
A.J Green - 54 Catches - 848 Yards - 3 TD's
Russell Gage - 66 Catches - 770 Yards - 4 TD's
Emmanuel Sanders - 42 Catches - 626 Yards - 6 TD's
Cedrick Wilson - 45 Catches - 602 Yards - 6 TD's
Khalif Raymond - 48 Catches - 576 Yards - 4 TD's
Allen Lazard - 40 Catches - 513 Yards - 8 TD's
Allen Robinson - 38 Catches - 410 Yards - 1 TD
Zach Ertz - 74 Catches - 763 Yards - 5 TD's
Jared Cook - 48 Catches - 564 Yards - 4 TD's
Gerald Everett - 48 Catches - 478 Yards - 4 TD's
Evan Ingram - 46 Catches - 408 Yards - 3 TD's
Kyle Rudolph - 26 Catches - 257 Yards - 1 TD
Hayden Hurst - 26 Catches - 221 Yards - 3 TD's
O.J Howard - 14 Catches - 135 Yards - 1 TD

There's plenty of room to get better at the WR and TE position IMHO. That's before we even get into next month with the draft. In a TE centric system with an emphasis on a RB by committee approach and not really making the WR position the focal point? There's a ton of potential in this market next week. I think this is really some of the local pundits concerns with Baalke, the fact that he doesn't churn the free agency market enough or waiver wire throughout the season to get talent upgrades whenever and wherever possible. This is his off season to start shaking off any doubters.

He can start by finding a healthy balance and mix of veterans on fair deals while infusing youth via the draft at the same exact positions. That's how you win in the NFL. That's how you get it done. You don't have to have Davante Adams. If you can get enough consistency out of three to four players that can get you over 3000 yards on offense and close to 25 touchdowns as an overall unit you'll be fine and probably better off in the long run. A lot cheaper too.

RB wise and OL wise? Again, I see plenty of potential there. Sony Michel, James Conner, Rashaad Penny, Chase Edmonds, Darrel Williams, Ronald Jones & Boston Scott. Would be happy with any combination of those players to come in relatively cheap as a back-up plan or primary rotational player in Pederson's system since we really don't know and won't know what we're getting when Etienne and Robinson return back at whatever 100% means for them.

Guys like Brandon Scherff, Nate Solder, Terron Armstead, Laken Tomlinson, Bobby Massie, Connor Williams & Will Hernandez should be out there as potential quality stop-gap or short term back-up's that add quality depth at a beyond reasonable price in this market to help fill out the offensive line.

I think the majority of the work on offense is going to have to come through free agency next week. I think you swing for the fences on defense if possible. I think you take Hutchinson in the draft to continue to stockpile pass rushers for the year in hopes of giving the football back to Lawrence more often than not. As creating turnovers was an issue last year for this defense. I think you then look at what's going to give you the most bang for your buck at picks 33, 65 & 70. Those three picks must net this team three starters. Cannot stress that enough this year.

I like this post a lot.  Essentially, you're advocating elevating the floor of this roster.  We become a competent team before we become a great team.  There's a lot of merit to this approach.

There's no reason why he would be on 'thin ice'. He makes for a good complement to Peterson.

Just because we got the green light to spend a lot on players, doesn't mean we'll get good players. They have to want to come here and since a lot of other teams have a lot of money to spend as well, they may choose to go with the team who has a better chance to win. All this report shows me is that we're likely to overspend on 2nd and 3rd tier players like we did last season when we saddled this team with costly and restrictive contracts like the one we gave to Rayshawn Jenkins and basically got nothing from him in return. I hope I'm wrong, but we'll have to wait and see.

Hmm. Lazard a FA? If we got Wilson or Gage I would like Lazard over Robinson. Add in Ertz, Cook or Ingram at TE and Trev has weapons

Dilla's text message basically just said they don't have a plan for FA, they're just gonna spray a ton of offers at everyone and hope that some take it.

Well, the only shots you miss are the ones you never take I suppose. That's how I like to fish. Don't get caught up or swept up on one sweet spot. Move around a little. Throw a line out everywhere. Get as many bites as you can. It's better than getting skunked.
