Jags FA talk and Signings

You needed to get better on defense at every level. He did that. Added a run stuffing NT. Added a tackling machine at LB. Added a solid CB that can move around.

You needed to get better at WR. He added two solid players there. You needed another TE. He added Engram there. Needed to get better offensive line play. He added Scherff.

You can't fill every need in one off season. But, he's damn near trying. I'll give him credit for that. Still time left to add more depth.

I think the draft is going to be about getting the BAP. All I want to see now though is an upgrade at RT, a WR with height and range, a promising ILB, a solid pass rusher and another versatile offensive lineman added. A RB as well.

Still a lot of work really I guess when I think about it. LOL.

He can very easily find that next month with the amount of picks he has though and the value will be there at the right position on the board. It really shouldn't feel like a reach at any point.

I think one of our top needs is still a young, promising TE. I'd expect us to draft one within the first 3 rounds. Engram has high upside, but he has a history of injuries and he's only on a one year deal. I look for us to go heavy on receivers (WR and TE) and O-Linemen, both for potential starters and for depth. I could also see us using another late round pick on a DE/OLB as well, because even if we ultimately draft Hutchinson #1, we have very little depth at the position. We have Smoot as depth, but that is the only proven backup we have.

I think his appeal is the versatility on game day, at both guard and tackle spots.  He's a backup.

Even as a backup, he isn't very good. I believe after some additions in the draft, he will be fighting for a roster spot.

Do the Jaguars consider re-signing Norwell?  Considering that he hasn't been signed at this point, his price probably isn't that high.  As of right now, Bartch is penciled in as the starter at one of the guard spots.

They have Shatley and Richardson for depth after signing richardson today. That leaves Little who going to compete at something per Baalke today. I hope it's RT and he wins it. Baalke also said today Moses is healthy so he will compete at ILB. so they might not address it in the draft. I see Edge, WR, TE, IOL in the first five picks. Hope that fifth spot, whatever it is, is packaged with #33 to move back into 1st round to get a premier WR but if they do watch them go defense again. Aiden going #1 tho

Little better be starting somewhere along the OL this year, or it'll be a very bad sign. It'll either mean the coaching staff can't evaluate for crap, or we wasted a #45 overall draft pick on a bum. Little might have a small sample size, but his play was very promising.

They can say whatever they want about Taylor, but we've all seen enough to know that he isn't the future at OT. He should move inside to Guard, or kick rocks.

I had forgotten about Moses.  I had penciled an inside linebacker as one of our picks in the 3rd to 4th round.  Assuming Baalke is not blowing smoke, that's good news.

I agree with your post.  I think Hutch is extremely likely as the first pick.  I don't get those that think it will be offensive line.  If they planned to take an offensive tackle, they never would have franchised Robinson.  You don't draft someone #1 overall to play guard.  I think wide receiver is very likely in the second.  It's only not taken if the value simply isn't there, but I think it will be.  I agree that TE and IOL are likely with one of our two 3rd round picks or our 4th round pick.  If one of those 3rd to 4th picks can be used in a trade up to get a good wide receiver, I'm all in favor if it.  Throw in one or two of our late round picks as well.  There's no way six players drafted in the sixth/seventh round make this team.

Austin Hooper is available.
Respect the game.  Play with a sense of urgency.

1.)  Take care of the ball.  Win the turnover battle.

2.)  It's all about 3rd down.  Win on 3rd down to win the game.

3.) Playmakers make plays.  The only reason that you put your uniform on is to make plays. In order to EARN your paycheck, you must make plays.

Dare Ogunbowale signed a two year, $3.3 million deal with the Texans.  No loss.  At best, he was depth competition, but I fully expected to upgrade the position anyway.  I would like to sign some type of veteran free agent running back to a one year deal (or multiple years with an easy out) as a stop gap with Robinson and ETN coming off injuries.  We need someone ready on day 1, but don't necessarily need someone for the future.  I would also use one of our million late round draft picks on running back depth.

This article is pretty great and shows how FA may be helping Lawrence. This quote is especially nice regarding Kirks EPA when targeted:

"Kirk’s 0.46/target average led the entire NFL—above Davante Adams, Cooper Kupp, Stefon Diggs, and Tyreek Hill. What I’m saying is that Kirk is a very good football player who could break out in an offense better suited to his skill set. Instead of running a dozen 5-yard hitch routes every week, as he did in Kliff Kingsbury’s scheme, he might be able to put that quick, efficient route running to good use."

Also, in the video for Kirk, watch the first play. Absolutely toasted his dude.

Nice article, it should be required reading for some of the more outspoken TL critics. Guy really doesn't like Baalkie.  This is the second article saying the Jags are messing up the free agent market and irritating the other GM's.  I know ... I know we are over paying a bit, but for some reason it makes me smile.

Man Baalke is hated around the league. I think the writing ia going to Khan being the worse owner this year.

Dang we overpaid but there is nothing left for this team to do.

Yea, Homebiscuit... Trent is great. Just like you thought Urban was great.

Maybe you're just a cheerleader, bro.

Trent Baalke is a piece of idiot garbage that does nothing except STUPIDLY spend Shad Khans money.

YUP.  Draft some linemen in the middle rounds and feel good.

Doesn't matter what we want, Baalke thinks Cam and Jawaan is a very good tackle tandem. We're screwed until this weird blind spot for our tackle position is overcome.

Also, I've seen like 4 blue checkmarks predict Collins goes to the Bengals, 1 that said it was between the Bengals and Pats, and I haven't seen anyone predict anywhere else.
