I would agree with you that they have put a lot if money and draft capital into him, and if i were a browns fan i would be slightly nervous about it based solely on the legal issues sure. But as a player? The talent he brings? The trade isnt even as much as the “commanders” paid to get RG3 and were talking a complete crapshoot on a rookie vs a guy who has established himself as a guy who can go toe to toe with guys like Mahomes. If they get the same guy we saw the last time he played this was a steal…

Also it would be a double win if baker goes to the colts. Rip a top 5 qb out of the division and maybe stick the colts with essentially another carson wentz… good way to keep two teams out of our way as we ascend

They won't be able to get passed Cincinnati. The Bengals didn't lose anything and they are still the class of that division. They upgraded the IOL and all they really need to do is address OT and CB in the draft and they should be Superbowl favorites. Cleveland still needs more WR's as they really only have one good one (Amari Cooper.) They also have yet to find a viable DE opposite Myles Garrett and their defense got stomped in several games last season. One QB is not gonna vault them passed Cincinnati.

There is no way in Hades he should be paid/guaranteed that kind of money. What on earth were the people smoking/sniffing/huffing thinking that this was a good idea? Because I want some. Did they pay off those women so they wouldn't file civil claims? That's not really the kind of distraction a team needs at any time but especially during the season. Waiting for the other shoe to drop is not conducive to a cohesive unit.

As for the reason why he's even in this situation.... There's nothing you can say to wives or daughters that would make sense other than it's greed on the part of the NFL and the teams that allow these men to play and represent them. Money is everything in sports and teams will pay what and who they have to in order to get butts in the seats and sales of merch.

Antonio Brown is a classic example of someone who obviously needs mental health help but teams are willing to pay him to play instead and deal with the fallout when something happens. The man is talented on the field for sure but it means nothing when he can't get through a season without a breakdown.

5 years 230 million 100% guaranteed...with only 1 million of that in year one. Watson is fairly concerned about a suspension if he demanded his deal be structured so that he only loses a tiny bit of his money if he is suspended for games.

This is totally crazy.  When Seattle signed Wilson to his big deal, they had to sacrifice their defense due to the salary cap.  Cleveland will likely have to do the same, in addition to giving up 3 first round picks.  Watson is not THAT good.

Interesting decision. Copy cat leauge. L.A gets lucky with Stafford. It'll be funny when Wilson and Watson barely get to .500 and Locke and Wentz end up as 6th or 7th seeds. Sounds funny. Just seems like it's going to happen.

He got nearly 45M in signing bonus. Nearly every team structures deals in this manner, year 1 your big payout is the signing bonus. Kirk's only making 1.5 in salary this year, do we expect him to be suspended for some yet to be reported faux pas?

While talking to my 28 year old daughter this evening she commented how upset she was DW was getting $230M despite being sued by 20+ different women for sexual assault.  In 2021 he was paid his full salary while being inactive for all games.  I didn't have any reasonable response to explain the rationale other than winning is more important than what is right., or legal, or civil.

I did mention that men's behavior in all professional sports could be scrutinized and, undoubtably, countless others could be held responsible for irresponsible behavior.  How do you feel about this?  How would you explain this to your wife or daughter? 

If I go back to my college days many of my friends felt if a girl came back to your apartment that was consent.  Granted that was a different time, the 80s.  Still, How can the Browns fans justify this mve?  Is winning that important?

That signing bonus can go a long way toward settling civil suits....just sayin

All my family is in CLE and I grew up a Browns (1.0) fan. When they moved, I never latched on to the 2.0 Browns, but still check in to see if the fam has anything to cheer about. My niece isn't one to hold athletes in any particular regard, but this is definitely an opportunity to explain that those with money, prestige, or connection have and can use their resources in ways that less fortunate may not be able to get away with, and to remain guarded and discerning when associating with others. It's not just sports; you see similar shadiness among civic leaders, hollywood actors, big business, and anywhere in between.

If she wants a hero, I'll recommend she get a Joey B jersey.

Who do they have at WR?
How are they going to improve? They gotta win with what they got, if you put Watson on last year's team, how much further in the playoffs do you honestly figure they'd have gone beyond Wild Card?
Between his deal and Garrett (whose cap hit jumps to ~30M next season), they ain't gonna be able to wave some magic FA wand and build a team that gets them in the SB.

Browns fans I know aren't happy with the deal, and they're about as patient as our fanbase. If he doesn't have them winning in spite of their newly limited resources, they may start competing with us for greasepaint.

He's spent most of his career playing indoors. How's he gonna do with a wind whipping off Lake Erie and a wind chill in the teens? There's a lot of assumption going on that he's gonna step in and immediately win. I don't see it, and I hate that they mortgaged their future in an irreparable fashion to get themselves into this mix.
