Not really. 

Why or why not?

The draft used to be my favorite time of the year, but most of our last few drafts have been so disappointing that my spirit has kind of been broken. Other than getting Trevor Lawrence, there really hasn't been a whole lot to be excited about and we've done nothing to get him any real help. With us likely taking an edge rusher #1 and not picking again until #33 and an anticipated run on WR's in the first round, I don't see any help coming either. 

Are you excited becuse, like a kid approaching Christmas, it's customary, almost instinctive for you to be excited this time of year?

That's how I used to feel.

Are you excited to see how Pederson will build the team?

I still don't think Pederson is the one building the team. He's just the one having to deal with what he is given by Baalke and Khan. 

Are you excited to see the new Jaguars?

Not really. I just see much of the same on the horizon. Just maybe a little bit better. We need to be a lot better though. 

Are you simply excited for the last big booster shot of football talk until a long dry spell without football talk?

I guess. 

If you are less excited than usual, why?

See above. 

Is Baalke's continued presence dampening your enthusiasm?

Yes. 

Have the Jaguars' long history of draft day ineptitude finally worn you down?

Absolutely.

Is the lack of a dominant franchise caliber guy at the top of the draft getting you down, because either the Jaguars can't add them to their own roster, or can't command a huge package of picks in a trade back from #1 overall?

Yes. I like Hutchinson a lot, but I'd much rather have a dominant LT (and there isn't one in this draft. The OT class is very weak) or a big time receiver, which we could only get with a trade down. That is not likely to happen. 

To be honest, I've experienced all of these things at various points this week.

Yes.  While always excited about the draft, I do think that I'm more excited than average this year.

Why or why not?

I'm the opposite of ChrisJagBoy in that Trevor Lawrence gives me hope for the team.  We have our potential franchise quarterback.  If we can find the surrounding talent, we could have a good team.  For most of the Jaguar's history, that hasn't been the case.  I also like that we are drafting at the top of each round and have a bunch of extra picks which makes the possibility of trade ups likely.  There's no taking a break after the Jaguar's selection.  I'm going to be on the edge of my seat throughout this draft.

I guess you can make an analogy that Christmas and the draft are fun events that come once a year.  I don't know that I call it instinctive.  It's fun and this year's draft may be a little more fun than average for the reasons stated above.

Not really.  Our needs are our needs.  Value is value.  I don't see Pederson changing how we draft too much.

Are you excited to see the new Jaguars?

Yes.  Likely 7 new starters from free agency, 3 rookies from last year moving into starting roles, and hopefully at least 2 and potentially 3 or 4 new starters from the draft.  We will also have improved depth and better coaching.  There are a lot of reasons to be excited about the direction of the Jaguars.

Although I'm aware of the dry spell, no, I don't think it changes the excitement level very much for me.

Not really.  It's been a foregone conclusion for at least a couple of months that he will be the GM this year.  Regardless of who is the GM, I go into the draft expecting them to do the right thing.  If they don't, I'll criticize them after the draft.

No, I'm the optimist before the draft.  I'll wait until after the draft to criticize and be negative.

It's unfortunate, but I've known that for a while.  It's not news.  As such, I've come to accept the situation as it is.  We got a big break last year in Trevor Lawrence being available.  This year, we got a bad break.  It's a missed opportunity, but it doesn't change the fact that this team can significantly improve this year if we draft correctly. 

To be honest, I've experienced all of these things at various points this week.

I honestly enjoy watching it online and seeing live grades starting on day 2 and then the rest of the weekend as that's where teams usually land eventual household names or starters.

If the Jaguars pull off a [BLEEP] trade down though? I would be interested and glued to the TV.

As to your point about Pederson building the team, I heard an interesting argument yesterday.

Because of the way the scheduling has been with the Super Bowl and draft being pushed back, the talking head was saying NFL coaches have been more involved in college scouting this year, whereas in the past, they didn't have the time.  I think that is a very good sign, thoough thinking about it, it makes me more irritated it took so long ti hire him.

I think every NFL fan instinctively has developed their own internal calendar, where generally there is a sense of drad that comes in the post draft dead zone.  Traditionally I have viewed the Kentucky Debry as the unofficial halfway point of the offseason.  But over time, that has adjusted a bit, because at least from January through the end of April, you can still get a decent amount of football discussion/news with the coaching hires/fires, playoffs, college all star games, combine, free agency, workouts, visits, pre draft trades, and then the draft.  Bust after the draft?  Ugh!  For me, I watch old games on DVD, wait for the Preseason mags to hit the newsstands in June (yes, I still enjoy print medium), catch the occasional glimpse of the June 1 cuts and minicamp....and just endure until training camp.

I don't fully trust Baalke, either.  This number 1 pick this year-specifically the prospect of getting Walker-terrifies me.  But generally speaking I think he does a decent job in drafting trench players, and that seems to be what's at the top of this draft, and that's a lot of what we need.  Still don't trust him to identify quality WRs, which is what I'm hoping Pederson can help with.

Bullseye, your OP is, as always it seems, fantastic. You do these things routinely yet they are anything BUT routine. Yoda gave some great takes in his post and I agree with just aout everyone of them.

As far as the draft itself, it usually marks the end of us winning the offseason LOL. Post draft though we do indeed hit the doldrums but at least we get the NBA playoffs through May and then the US Open in golf in June and the British Open in July to tide me over till the HOF Game in Aug.

Who actually trusts Baalke? Not me, Plus he is bringing in an old crony as Asst GM after the draft so it looks like we are stuck with him for some time to come. Ah well, the drama that is the Jags FO will continue. 

Still, exciting times ahead.

Thanks a lot.  Often times, like here, I just ask questions.  I like hearing what people think.  I like knowing if I'm the only one thinking the things I am thinking.  My thoughts were beginning to drive me crazy going back and forth between premature excitement and premature resignation...between optimism and pessimism.  I can't recall feeling quite like this pre draft before.

The NBA playoffs used to do it for me, but over the years, I lost interest in Basketball for some reason.  I hate golf, and if it's on my television, I am napping hard.

I have limited Baalke trust.  I feel I can trust him some to draft front 7 defenders, and to a lesser extent quality offensive linemen.  I do NOT trust him wo find a quality WR.  Kirk is a good slot guy, provided they find someone outside.  I don't think he can carry a WR corps, if that makes any sense.  But even in the limited extent I DO trust him, It
s still not a complete trust even in those areas.  I don't want Walker, and I still am not sure if Baalke will pass on him.  To me, Walker shouldn't even be in the discussion of best player in the draft.

If we trade down only to select one of the overrated OT's in this class and Travon Walker, it will be like screwing up twice! If we trade down for two first round picks, one of those picks has to be a WR.

I'm as excited or more than ever. I'm counting the days down until the draft. As of now, about 7 to go. I hope the jags have a good draft. I think last years draft was solid and if last years class plays well this year combined with this years class contributing, I think we are all going to be super excited.

I'm not excited at all because I know that no matter what they do it will be wrong. I have not fallen in love with any of the pass rushers, the skill players aren't R1P1 caliber and we'll likely not select the best player in Evan Neal.

I think because of how poorly Trevor played last season it has dampered my excitement a bit. Even tho, I do expect him to bounce back under much better circumstances it just leaves a lingering feeling of doubt in my gut.. maybe it's because we've never had a real QB or maybe it's because I'm tired of the constant hype and then enevitible drop off come week 1 of the regular season.

That being said, if we can leave this draft with an elite player at #1 (presumably Hutch) and a #1 WR of the future.. along with continuing to solidify the O line and other various holes I'll be happy.

Well I was born in 1994 so you would be correct. That being said, if you think Mark Brunell was an elite/franchise QB you're clueless. He had a RB who should be in the HOF, a LT who is in the HOF and two insanely talented WRs. I understand that the passing game was weaker due to the rules back then.. but not to the degree of 20 td 9 ints (his best season statistically) is "Franchise QB" caliber.

To this point, Blake Bortles statisticly has been our best QB and that.. is disgusting.


Again, I understand the game has changed.. but for the record.

Blake Bortles had a 35 TD season with the jaguars.
Brunells most TD passes as a jaguar was 20. (Brunells best season was in 2005 with washington, 23-10)
