Have we been too harsh on Baalke?

They didn't understand all of the intracacies you could do to manipulate the cap. If you put that exact team in today's age they could have kicked the can down the road for a long time and wouldn't have had to tear down so fast. We show less advertisements to registered users. If Balke drafts Walker he should be fired.
You know you're dealing with a belief system when you get an emotional response.
Baalke is ranked worse than former Jags GM Smith. Let that sink in, the guy who over valued small school players was better in the draft than him.
Hopefully he has no authority but seems like the Jags are doubling down on it. Gene smith once drafted a guy who was not even playing football(believe the guys name was Pendleton or something and he was doing construction at the time lol). That is pretty hard to beat. Will ignore the obvious punter over Russell Wilson pick (04-24-2022, 09:24 PM)JagsorDie Wrote:It's been posted before but basically grades the draft slot and expected value. I know it was only a real late 7th round pick but like ... just sign the guy as a UDFA.
Championship Formula:
1) Draft Trevor Lawrence! 2) Play good physical Defense! 3) Keep 91% of the roster healthy! 4) ??? 5) Blank #2 6) CHAMPIONSHIP!!!
I personally wanted him gone because I was behind the “clean the whole house” narrative and start over. Obviously that didn”t happen, this off-season seeming,y looks to be going better than last off-season. Hopefully we don’t get any entire draft of head scratching picks come draft Night. From what I see, if the team has a uptick in wins atleast 6, I believe Baalke should get another year to see if we can’t get to double digit wins in 2 years, if not he should be gone.

Yeah, what if walker is the pick and he turns into a beast instead of a bust? I'm just sitting down with popcorn and watching on Thursday night. I'm not trying to get mad at any choice. The draft is a casino.

It's the age-old "I'm going to ignore everyone around me (who've also done a ton of research) to prove I'm the super scout" mentality. Gene Smith had a strong case of it, too. I'd take Hutch, Thibs, Karlaftis, and J. Johnson over Walker -- and only maybe the first two at #1 overall -- because they all have pass-rush skills. You don't draft a defensive end in the first round to stop the run and run around like a great athlete. Rushing the passer is akin to a martial art that takes time to develop.

Plus, if every GM was fired for a high draft pick going bust, then GM turnover around the league would be close to 80-90%, and that's more destructive than productive. There's a reason that half the NFL players are UFA's.

If you are going to fire him based on this past incompetence, isn't that a real indictment on the owners competence for hiring him in the first place.

According to some posters on this forum, people must not be able learn from their mistakes. I'm guessing tho that most people on here have been incompetent at what they do at some point in their life, and yet got more chances to improve. Unless you've gone ahead in time, you have no idea how the last draft or the upcoming one is going to pan out. If it sucks, then he sucks, and we move on.
