But I get it. Defenses can't win you games like it used to but a crappy defense can certainly lose games for you. A good defense can also keep you in games as we saw from time to time last year. If the thinking is, hey not everything can be fixed in one year so let's build a league leading defense first and work on the offense in year two, I would understand that.

In isolation each pick makes sense and can be justified however as a group getting two linebackers (after also signing one in FA) in your top 3 picks is hard to justify.

I think if they didn't like Hutchinson they should've taken a tackle and not re-signed Cam, that would've be the safe alternative and been good for Trevor.

I do think we were unlucky though, in another year we can trade that top pick for two 1st rounders lower down. Draft a WR and Lindebaum or Lloyd and we'd have been the Jets equivalent. Feels like having the top pick was a bit of a poisoned chalice this year. 

That said I think the team is better than last year, better coaching staff and hopefully a big jump from Trevor so we're not drafting 1 again. Can draft a receiver then to being the missing piece in an otherwise flawless team that we'll surely have in 2023 after a surprise playoff run via winning the division then Walker getting 5 sacks in the playoff game...

If you read the draft evaluations on either you will find both were over valued by everyone going into their respective drafts. I do agree we have had a cast of characters making odd decisions in the draft. They were for some reason concerned with how they were ranked in my opinion.  The current guys do not seem to care as much about that. they made a plan early on and are sticking to it. We can only hope it makes a difference in the outcomes next year.

The funny part about Gabbert is he actually "slid to 10" and we traded up for him. Mayock and a bunch of other mock "experts" had him as 1a 1b with Cam Newton coming out. Which in hindsight now, is absolutely crazy even if I think Newton is largely overrated.

Listening to/reading the various talking heads, the Lloyd and Muma picks aren't being trashed for value.  Everyone says they are good value.  The people who are criticising the picks have other reasons for doing so.  One guy said the Muma pick wasn't necessary becaus the FO drafted Lloyd and signed Oluakun in free agency.

Meanwhile, I can't wait to see the various personnel groupings and blitz packages the defense will offer.

Assuming all three are healthy, what percentage of defensive snaps do you see Muma getting?

I believe he plays more against the more physical and stronger running teams like Tennessee, Indy and Dallas.

Think about it.  Who would you rather have trying to tackle Derrick Henry?  A 215 lb Oluakun, or a 240 lb Chad Muma?  Caldwell said he wanted his defensive identity to be strong against the run.  With two young, athletic, and smart 240 lb LBs, we're bound to be better against the run.

Ultimately, I believe Muma supplants Oluakun in the starting lineup.  Perhaps not early, but I think Muma can be a very good player for us.  I am excited about that pick.

I would say they all get a significant amount of snaps. Lot will depend on how Walker is used and if they go with a 3-4.

I think early on, it'll be Oluakun.  But over time, Muma will replace him.  To me, he offers the same things Oluakun offers, only in a younger, bigger and cheaper package.

Totally spit balling it.  But if Oluokon is good in coverage, I could see his role on passing downs as sort of nickel or dime safety covering the TE.

Fix the O-Line!

Maybe with how much titans and colts runs the ball the front office thought it would be a good idea to have a strong rotation at line backer to stop Henry and Taylor taking over in the 4th quarter when teams are getting tired.

Also in relation to draft grades and “experts” Kyle Brandt just did a segment on gmfb about the Seahawks 2012 draft with Wilson, Irvin and Wagner getting an F grade. All we can do is sit back and wait and see who’s good and who’s not. I for one am very excited for the upcoming season. I don’t expect the play offs but I think the titans will take a step back and maybe keep our hopes of being in sight of the division in mid November which would be fun
