One came out of school with insanely prolific production. 
One had a fraction of the production. 

One has shown an ability to make guys miss.
One is is a "one cut and hit the next guy hard" runner.

I think they see Conner as their power back, JR as their early downs guy, and Etienne as a 3rd down and scat/gadget player.

Obviously what I said is pure speculation, but I don't think it's insane to think they may have looked at Conner as a possible replacement for JR rather than shelling out a large contract to a back..

The play style isn't really all that similar IMO. 
James is more shifty. A little more patient to choose his lane.
Snoop is immediate to the first crease of daylight he sees and will try to run through anyone in his way after that. 
He's like a more decisive (but slower) Fournette.

All of it hinges on Robinson's recovery. 

Conner was first and foremost added as insurance since Robinson may not be ready in September.
If Robinson gets on the field and averages 5 yards a carry again, they'll have decisions to make. 
I don't think it would take a top ten RB contract to keep him. He's not a home run hitter and his speed is suspect. He's just very adept at getting an extra yard or two from most of his carries and he's got good vision and timing through the hole. 
They could probably keep him around for 5 or 6 mil per year IMO. Chump change by today's standards.

I'd think more along the lines of the deal Chase Edmonds just got from the phins.

4-6 mil per year depending on incentives.
If he returns from injury and looks runs upwards of 4.2 YPC again, I'd probably look to sign him to a 3 year deal with an out after 2 years.
16 mil total if he hits incentives, around 11 or 12 mil guaranteed.

Unless Snoop looks like a complete fish out of water during camps etc, he should be a lock for the 3rd RB spot on the depth chart. He already has the advantage of being drafted by this front office.

That 4th spot will absolutely be an entertaining battle though for sure.

I agree snoop will be on the roster. They would not have picked him that early unless they were convinced he could start early in the year.
