Yeah, I noted that piledriver and some joker on here Sunday tried to say that Lawrence should've completed that pass. Never mind that the pressure threw off the timing and TLaw got destroyed in the process. Something along lines of "Big deal, make the pass" or some such.

None of this is really surprising. It jives overall with what was presented on the football field throughout most of the game. Despite the turnovers that were forced that defense was awful overall. Couldn't tackle worth a damn in the secondary. Guys were having their ankles broken out there and playing patty cake. 

Wentz still put up four touchdowns through the air. The pass protection did seem weaker on the left side and that was pretty obvious with Bartch. Add in the penalties, the dropped TD by Etienne and only four whopping carries and his grade makes sense as well. Same for Lawrence. His play was streaky in the 1st half. 

Where is James Robinson graded out here though?

He was close to having an average grade by PFF's standards. The two plays he made were outstanding. However, the film doesn't really lie. Go back and look at the time Wentz had in the pocket. The base four simply could not get it done in that game.

The one time Caldwell said to hell with it and sold out with a full blitz? They all got swallowed up in pass protection and Wentz nuked the secondary for what would ultimately get them up to 20 points if I am not mistaken. 

I put a lot of this on coaching. Just didn't see that much aggressiveness or change up in the calling on defense. Hopefully this is just an adjustment phase, as well for Pederson, as the calling was streaky in general or becoming too laid back or imbalanced. 

It's really, really weird when you think about it. Pederson was aggressive on offense throughout the majority of the game, going for it on 4th, bypassing a PAT, throwing it way, way more than trying to actually run it while Caldwell pretty much called a pretty vanilla defense. Didn't see much blitz action up the middle or off the edge. Didn't see any stunts or attempts to double stack one side of the LOS. 

We'll see. It's a long season. Things will undoubtedly change as the players and coaches get familiar with each other.

ok i settled down a little since sundays lose. what i meant by same ol jags  they are a team that can win the turnover battle,and still lose the game.  Jags are the only team i have ever heard of that wins turnover battle only to still lose the game.  

if other teams do that i woldn't know unless they play us.  all i hear from   people is you don't win when your turn the ball over,thats so false.    I have seen teams turn the ball over,and still win the same game,when they lost the turn over battle.  

anyways more mporenttly,then football does anyone ave a way to call Bullseye,or his wife?  I am concered about him. i do rember him saying he had some health issues before.

The Good:
Robinson and Etienne looked fresh, fast and furious on the few opportunities they had on the ground. Was good to see both of them involved in the receiving game as well. The receiving group looks a lot better than expected. Walker showed out and made an instant impact on more than one drive. The kicking situation, although not perfect, looks a little bit more hopeful. Didn't see too many blown opportunities on special teams tackling and gunner wise. Didn't really see a turnover until the final drive of the game. Something I can live with. The coaching staff showed the ability to adapt and adjust and the team responded well in the second half after a slow first half. 

The Bad:
A lot of misfires on offense. Pass protection was spotty at best with a Chase Young-less defense. A few critical drops and overthrows really came back to ultimately hurt this team down the stretch. Not a fan of the overall imbalance on offense. It's a season opener on the road. No reason to have your QB dropping back 40 or more pass attempts while limiting two of your most explosive and dynamic players on offense to a whopping 15 carries in total. That needs to change as soon as this home opener kicks off against the clots. 

The Ugly:
Lawrence has a lot of work to do. His completion percentage is not ideal. His footwork gets sloppy at times and he has a bad tendency of drifting backwards instead of stepping up into the pocket or sliding to an open passing lane. Needs to be more aware and making quicker decisions with the football. As the game progressed, it was obvious the pass protection was going to continue to struggle. This is a give and take situation. Lawrence has to be faster if Pederson is going to keep putting him back in the pocket in passing situations and Pederson needs to also be better with his play calling to make Lawrence's life easier whether it's a screen play, swing play or going back to the ground game. 

When it's all said and done. The game came down to four possessions. The opening possession and overthrow of Etienne, the dropped TD by Etienne on 4th and goal, the missed field goal after the turnover before the first half ended and the final scoring possession that Washington had to win the game. There was some opportunities there for this coaching staff to really cut it's teeth. Calling a time out on that 3rd and 10 situation around midfield on Washington's last offensive possession that won the game could have resulted in a different outcome. 

Running the football a little bit more in a closely contested game could have also changed the overall outcome of the scoreboard. Really wasn't impressed with the base front four's pass rushing efforts. Caldwell probably should have stole some ideas from Jack Del Rio and started blitzing a little bit more creatively from various lanes to shake up Wentz a little bit more sooner in this game. 

All-in-all. Feels good to be a nit picky in a close loss Vs. being woefully somber for what the year has in stored after a game is lost at half time or gets ugly fast in the 2nd half. Last year we could have probably expected Lawrence to get more desperate and start throwing up YOLO passes into coverages that shouldn't have been there. He didn't. That shows maturity. 

Hopefully this week shows some even better maturity, learning and growth from all aspects of this football team.

2. I agree with Lawrence about making quicker reads. Just be overall quicker with reading and throwing. I also agree that he tends to bail way too fast even on 4 man rushes. I don’t blame the oline here. The qb has to get the ball out quick. The short game will set up the long game. I don’t see him going through any reads and/or looking safeties off. That’s QB 101.

The entire offensive line graded poorly. Look at our high priced free agent guard near the bottom of the league. Robinson graded a 73 so there is that.

While I agree in some sense about pressures being two sided, this past Sunday's game was hugely because of the OL being awful in pass protection. The all-22 film just continues to prove that. You can count on 1 hand the amount of bad plays/decisions Lawrence had in that game. The worst being the missed TD throw to ETN early on in the game. He missed that one badly, it was ugly, but other than that, he was pretty good throughout. The OL, not so much. Really rough day for them in pass pro.

Running the ball more going forward will help EVERYBODY out.

The good, the running game worked in the red zone. Receivers were getting open. The d had two takeaways.

The bad both lines. Defensive playcalling/adjustments. Tackling.

Most dissapointing award goes to the entire defense. I really thought they would be better.

Honorable mention dissapointing goes to the oline. This has to improve.

I hate the way preseason is used now. We complained last year about the fake QB Competition. This year they didn't run QB with the WRs enough so Week 1 becomes the real time first test. If all the work is happening in practice, why do we have preseason games anymore? Shifting 1 to the regular season shows how the games are viewed.

This game was really like the old preseason 3 game where starters play and you finalize your status for the season. When you look at the 2021 stats, this team is already miles ahead of that team. Now they still lack talent especially on the oline but.. the season is long and I feel like we will see improvements. Just might not get rewarded with winning.
