Hockenson would of been perfect for this team and Dougs offense

Really? To a divisional rival? Talk about guts there man. Damn. If Hockenson is worth a 2nd and 3rd RD pick call me crazy but I think Josh Allen commands a minimum of a 1st RD pick and/or a 3rd RD pick on top of that.

I ain't giving up a 2nd and 3rd RD pick for Hockenson here though man. We're 2 - 6. Not 6 - 1 and making a play off run this year. That's INSANE to even entertain. You're going to need more than Hockenson on this offense to get better in one season.

I would rather keep my high 2nd RD pick for next year's draft and go after a Demus Jr, AT Perry or move up for Quentin Johnston. I think they need to resign Engram and Arnold though.
They won't have to move up for anyone because they'll be picking at pick 11. Book it.

I'll take that. That's prime real estate for Quentin Johnston at WR or even Michael Mayer at TE.

You don't think Johnston goes top 10?  I think he does.  If we pick out of the top 10 I'd be shocked

I'm glad we didn't make that mistake. We can get our number 1 WR with our 2nd and Claypool ain't worth our 2nd

Really depends on who finishes in front of us. I don't think we'll finish with the 11th overall pick though. I could see us finishing just enough to seal the 5th or 6th spot and we'll end up getting Johnston anyway.

I still wouldn't stop there though. I think you have to consider another receiver with a similar build and game to him. Second night of the draft I am taking AT Perry or Dontay Demus Jr.

I start packaging up those 4th, 5th and 6th RD picks as well to get back up into the bottom of RD2 or early RD3 again to get somebody like Darnell Washington, Zack Kuntz, Austin Stogner, Josh Whyle, Luke Muskgrave or Sam LaPorta at TE. They have to keep going after receiving threats that force a defense to work for it.

You go out and get those two things in one draft to add to Kirk, Jones and Etienne in 2023? You'll start winning more football games. I promise you that.

Agreed. That's too much to give up there. Chicago is struggling. Pittsburgh just got themselves a great pick in the draft and they'll end up making something happen with it.

If they are the top player on our board fine, you don't start passing up other players on your board to get WRs.  If you have to do that we have the wrong QB and we will be right here again next year in the same spot.  We have a lot of other needs as well.  Stick to the board and take the top guy.

I'm doubling up with Demus and Johnston.

Also. The Jags botched the WR position from the jump. Should have done any of the following:

1. Trade for Amari Cooper.
2. Trade for Tyreek
3. Trade for AJB.
4. Draft Pickens instead of trading up to draft Lloyd.

They will likely do nothing at the deadline and continue to look dumb.

How do you know this?

Didn't the Vikings just get Hock from their rival Lions?

Everyone has a price. If the Jags offered more than the Fins for Tyreek, why wouldn't they accept that deal?

Guys are open deep when they run those routes. Zay, Christian and Agnew before he was hurt. The film shows them all open on deep breaking routes.

They just don't have a dominant X type that can win contested catches and beat the press on the outside.
Adding that would certainly help, but it's not really about the deep ball IMO.

Protection is the primary issue with the deep ball. Trevor is under pressure too quickly on the majority of the plays that take time to develop.
I don't agree with the protection. A lot of the local guys, including Lageman just now is saying things that clearly contradict this thought.

He's had time. He still sails passes or doesn't put enough air under the ball for his guy to run underneath it.

Taylor's having a career year at RT. He's been sacked 12 times this year which is tied for 3rd best overall. This is all in a pass centric offense primarily ran out of the gun.

His receivers are not catching everything thrown their way neither in fairness to Lawrence. Agnew hooped a deep shot earlier this year.

However, again, missed a deep pass to Robinson a week or two ago. Missed some earlier opportunities this year to both Jones'.

You're saying we're not missing a deep threat and that guys are open, yet, its the pass blocking failing to give him time.

I think the reality is him making mistakes early and then getting gun shy from that point onward in conjunction with the lack of a truly capable deep threat that commands respect and can separate at the top.

Here are his attempts to look deep in the first three series from London.

1st attempt:

Bartch is helping Fortner and ETN has to chip a free pass rusher - not enough to get it done with Den's secondary covering well

TL's second look deep was a beautiful TD pass to Evan Engram (with Cam Robinson being pushed back into him)

Third series, third look deep:

First two guys are covered, can't get to third read before Cam loses his battle in 1.9 seconds.

It is happening in every game when they try to hit longer routes. Consistently.

In addition to TL getting pressured too often to take deep shots more often, he's getting it on the quick stuff too.

here are two more clips - again JUST from the first three series in London. And we know this OL gets worse in protection late in games. We've seen in several times.

This is a completion to Zay Jones and Cam is letting his guy get a hand on Trevor within 1.6 seconds.

Here is another quick completion where Fortner and Cam are getting killed
Again - from only the first three series in London

1.9 seconds to QB getting contacted

Again - it happens every week consistently.  Not sure why we are ignoring it.
This is a big part of the problem - and it is primarily at Center, LG and LT.
