I vote for Dewey Wingard to start at SS

I’ll take a man who plays with heart in any sports setting over an equal player in the same capacity. Energy and emotion is infectious and can generate a spark for a team that is scratching and clawing for wins.

Dewey's a guy you want on the roster, but not as a starter. The talent just isn't there. But the heart is.

Who starts over Dewey who is much better? Jenkins is just ok and not a big upgrade if at all.

Can he really pass cover?

I thought that was a huge problem last year. Iirc he was a liability in coverage and had to constantly play a quarter mile deep to keep the play in front of him and avoid getting burned. I could be wrong but that was what I thought was the case. That was at FS though

He’s a much better SS than a FS.

Better than Josh Allen Wolfie? Better than departed Myles Jack? Better than Tyson Campbell, etc.

Wingard isn't the Looooooooooong term answer w/respect to being our starter at either position. It's not that people don't want to admit how good he is. It's that people don't want to claim that he's good enough to be the starter when he's not.

Hopefully whomever they draft in April.

Dewey is a liability in coverage.

Let him start a few games and watch the TE abuse him.

Does he start 30 yards off the line of scrimmage this year like last?
Do we really want another person starting that causes horrible penalties at the worst possible times?

Am I thinking of someone else from last year or is everyone else forgetting him from last year?

that was as a FS he would be playing SS as Cisco is the FS.  i don't think with the defensive scheme he would line up that far back. but then i don't think he would be able to keep up, but he does hit hard.  like a less talented Donovan Darius haha

Can’t be no worse than what Campbell did last game when Adams got whatever he wanted.

What about Jonathan Abram? Raiders just cut him.

A super cheap option who might do better in a new situation and give us a little depth. We know what we have in Dewey, Abram may not be an upgrade, but he has more raw talent and Jenkins isn't sticking around next year anyway

Admittedly I know NOTHING about him or his play besides article I've been reading

Teams cutting a first rounder still on their rookie deal says a lot. Those moves make me uber-skeptical. Trade deadline just passed, and either they didn't shop him around, or nobody wanted to bite at the price tag they wanted. That says a lot, too.

Caveat emptor.

Yeah, there's a reason Chaisson is still around or Bryan last year. First rounders aren't cut like that.

The guy must be incredibly toxic in addition to being bad on the field.

It's going to be tough sledding in general for that whole secondary. Especially if the pass rush can't get around Mahomes to fluster him or put him in the ground a few times.

This game has to be won on offense and it's going to come down to whether or not this special teams unit or defense can somehow come up with a turnover or two.

I think Caldwell will try to play it safe call wise and bend but try not to break. They need to control the time of possession on offense though. Chew as much clock up as possible and score points to cap it off. They can do it. They have done it. My concern is just Etienne taking on another heavy workload.

Hasty and Conner need to get into the mix and they need to effectively spell Etienne when he's catching a breather or two.

It's also the Raiders, so there's that. And he's dirt cheap.

I don't think he'll make some career resurgence or anything, but there's a reason why he was projected to be an early round pick
