Let's talk Salary Cap 2023

IIRC if we cut him and he clears waivers, we have to make up the difference between the 2.4 and what he signs for (remember the bortles deal?) There is a lot of fat they can cut on defense. Some can be upgraded with less money or addressed in the draft.

Shaq and Chaisson can be let go immediately for all i care. Rayshawn Jenkins too if we think we can score a decent safety in the draft. I'd try to keep a good amount of people tho, don't wanna cause un wanted holes for no reason.

Other than the "big three" (Griffin, RoyRob, Jenkins), nearly everyone else offers little savings to outright cut or even trade. There may be a few that stick around one year longer just to whittle down that dead money hit. Because remember, every person you cut or trade will need to be replaced. We (presently) don't have room to wiggle in any big money deals for named FA, so plan on replacements being mediocre to past their prime type guys willing to play at discounted rates. IIRC if we cut him and he clears waivers, we have to make up the difference between the 2.4 and what he signs for (remember the bortles deal?) per OTC: Quote:Contract Notes Regarding no offset, per yardbarker: Quote:if a team has written offset language into the contract, that club can save some money if and when the player signs with a new team. For example, if that player who had $4 million in guaranteed money left on his contract signs with a new club on a $1 million deal, his old team would only be on the hook for $3 million, with the new team making up the difference. If there’s no offset language on that first deal, the old team would continue to be on the hook for the full $4 million, and the player would simply earn an additional $1 million from his new club. [emphasis mine] sounds like unless we trade him (and his contract), we're on the hook for the full amount. I see where Spotrac states that only 10 of the 13M is guaranteed, so anybody's guess who has it right, unless someone can provide a copy of the signed deal.
No matter how much fat they trim - they are going to need to count on a minimum of 2 rookies to start and probably 3 unless Baalke works miracles with the cap and restructures a couple of contracts.
Drafting a safety that can step in and play as well as Jenkins in the box but better in coverage would be a huge help to the cap since he's not an "obvious" cut compered to Griffin, Marvin and RRH etc. The Taylor/ Little situation will have major cap implications. I miss reading Fred's breakdown of the salary cap.. Dude knew his figures and had it broke down like science. Dude was like a team accountant.

Little has to play RT next year, for sure. I think Safety wise there's a few decent one's to be had in the draft. I really like J.L Skinner from Boise State. Also like John Torchio out of Wisconsin. He's done some good work up there with Jim Leonhard's defense (Former Jets standout at Safety). I agree with at least 2 - 3 starters coming out of this draft class next year. Will more than likely need a CB, NT & S on defense. Will more than likely need a TE and G on offense. Going to be an interesting off season. Confident though as long as Lawrence and Pederson continue to develop an offensive gameplan that keeps us in games. Which I think they will. ![]() "What do I know of cultured ways, the gilt, the craft and the lie? I, who was born in a naked land and bred in the open sky. I doubt the team is going to pay Taylor what he’ll ask for and Little has had very few snaps the past several years going back to his college days. If the Jags are picking in the 10th - 12th range I wouldn’t be surprised if they took one of the tackles. Little would be the best option at RT next year but he hasn’t done anything to earn my vote of confidence yet. We show less advertisements to registered users. Accounts are free; join today! Fatukasi is not really offering up much of a push in the interior in the passing game. I don't think we'll lose that many more games, if anything, could see them continuing to win out more. This is going to more than likely kick you out of position to land a Jalen Carter or Keelee Ringo. Will probably see offense emphasized early in RD1/RD2 and they try and fix some of the missing pieces in RD3/RD4 and via free agency. Fletcher Cox would be a great pick up, as well as Ertz at TE. ![]() "What do I know of cultured ways, the gilt, the craft and the lie? I, who was born in a naked land and bred in the open sky. Now the current cap is $230m and not expected to jump too much this year due to the covid seasons. At the moment we are projected to be spending $235m already for next year and that is for 39 players only. What the hell are you talking about? The season is not even over. How bout we see what happens in the next 6 games? Jesus, you have Agnew as a potential salary casualty? Some of you guys are such bush league morons. You keep guys like Agnew. Did you not see the value of Agnew over the season and more obviously the TD on Sunday??? You don't just let guys like that go. You negotiate with them hopefully get them to see the benefit of staying for 2 or 3 more years. We're watching the development of a squad that very well could dominate the AFC South for a decade. And you're talking about salary cap casualties right in the middle of a potential playoff run. That's really pathetic. It's just a list of players that could be replaced to save money - so maybe settle down a little. LOL I personally would keep Agnew and I'd wager the poster you quoted would like to as well. His name will continue to come up though - since return specialists who moonlight at receiver can be found in the mid to late rounds of the draft and the team is in cap trouble. Hopefully we don't need 4.75 mil so badly that we have to move on from such a valuable contributor. I love the guy. I imagine the other 30 mil in cuts combined with a restructure or two and a small cap ceiling increase will be enough for now. But he is a potential casualty whether we like it or not. I'm in the minority, but Jenkins is a guy I'd also keep. I like his aggressiveness and he and Cisco make for a solid safety combo with Dewey in reserve. Griffin will be gone at corner so I'd hate to lose 2 starters in the secondary. I'd also try to keep Agnew due to his big-play potential as a return man and on gadget plays as a receiver.
IIRC you can structure a trade where the other team assumes part of the contract. Remember the Texans giving up a second router for another team to take on a QBS salary?
Some of these #s can be massaged. I would roll with Cisco at FS and Dewey at SS. The defensive line needs the most attention. |
