WEEK 17/ DAMAR HAMLIN Updates

I think a better solution would be to call last night's game a tie, and continue with the season.

Yeah, I should have clarified on last nights game.  A tie is probably the most fair to both teams, and would effectively 'erase' the game.  As for week 18, it depends on if the young man remains in critical condition.  Of course, if he passes, then who knows?  week 18 could be canceled.

Don't even declare it a tie, just leave the game unplayed and seed the teams based on win % whenever the playoffs happen.  Hopefully Hamlin pulls through, but whatever the NFL decides to do with this week's games will be interesting.  Gonna be tough for all these teams, and a thousandfold for the Bengals and Bills, to take the field again less than a week after watching that.

Looks like they have no plans to resume play any time soon.

I really have no idea what they will decide moving forwards. Been checking for updates all day hoping to see some good news bit it's just the waiting game and hoping he can recover from this.

In a way I do find it odd the league doesn't have some plan somewhere for a situation like this, just to plan for the possibility of it happening. Sadly I don't have much faith in the head office making smart decisions but thankfully the teams and players seem to be leading the way. Of course Hamlin is the main priority right now but really have no idea what decisions they will make regarding this game and possibly week 18. Can only imagine how the players are feeling right now.

I’m not belittling anybody’s comments, but these guys are going to be emotionally scarred for quite some time…regardless of the final outcome.  How could they not?

What a shame.  Really hope he can pull through. I also feel terrible for his mom too. I’m glad his mom was there to be able to be with her boy instead of watching it on TV and being who knows how many hours away.  Either way, I can’t imagine how she is feeling.  Thoughts and prayers for him and his mom.

As far as the Game goes, I don’t envy the NFL at all trying to figure out how to handle it.  Seeding stakes and so close to the playoffs.  It’s not like it’s week 3 and you can make it up a month or two down the line. You know both teams will be playing with a heavy heart and probably don’t give a crap to finish that game.  It’ll be interesting to see what happens.

Regarding the game why not just count it as a tie each team gets 1/2 win and move on. I don't know how they could logistically make this game up at this point.

I guess it’ll be up to both organizations after talks with the league.  That’s my best guess.  At this point, both organizations have the “pr” aspect along with the league.  There is no “win-win”.  It’s more of a matter of how they acknowledge/respect this young man while the season and playoffs keep going.  That’s why I say I don’t envy the NFL at all. I mean, really, what do you do in this situation? bkrh Teams want the win.  I’m guessing that they would both agree to a tie.  Like I said earlier, I doubt either the Bengals or Bills want to finish it.  That would be a very awkward game amongst the two for very good reason.  It just wouldn’t feel right.

I’d guess that they play this week’s games and decide what to do after that. I can’t imagine either team truly wanting to play even this week’s games…especially the Bills.

So essentially a tie?

If KC and Buffalo win this weekend, does KC win the top seed, the first round bye?  Or does Buffalo get the bye because they won head to head v. KC, even though they have fewer wins than KC?

What of Cincy?  They would be effectively locked into the 3rd seed with no chance of going any higher even though they beat KC head to head and were beating Buffalo?

This sucks all around, and there are no easy solutions.

If they managed to push the playoffs back a week and play Buffalo and Cincy while everyone else is off, If Buffalo wins out, they would finish with the top seed and get the first round bye but whichever team lost, be it Buffalo or Cincy, would be at a disadvantage going into that wild card round.

Worst to 1st.  Curse Reversed!

This makes sense.  Let the rest of the scenarios play out as well as “give it time”.  Then decide what to do. Either way, I don’t think there is a right answer to the Making up of that game.  Hopefully the two teams and league come to an agreement. Playoff seeds be damned.  One that involves not playing it.  It just doesn’t feel right to finish that one.

This is the problem, Bills may lose #1 seed as their player had a cardiac arrest. Just seems so unfair and the Bengals could have jumped up. I know playoff seeds aren't important compared to what Hamlin is going through right now.

The only thing I can think of, and I just can't see the league doing it, is you have the bye week the week before the SB. You could push back this weeks games or the playoff wildcard weekend back a week but fear that may threaten the pockets of some rich guys so probably got no shot.

Hearing Aaron Rodgers talk about it today, the players are as shocked and as upset as everyone else. If you asked them do they want to play this weekend I'm not sure what they'd say right now.

I can see the whole week 18 schedule being played @half [BLEEP]”.  On the other hand, competitors compete.  I’m not sure how this next week plays out and the competition that ensues.  I see it both ways.  Either way, every game, I can see the players having this in the back of their minds.  Do they take the big legal hit? Or do they lay off a bit?  I can see this being an offensive week.  Just a weird and awkward week.

This is such a terrible and tough situation all around.

It's terrible for Hamlin and his family. A kid just playing the game he loves and now he's fighting for his life. I couldn't help but have a little tear come to my eye watching last night. You could see and feel the emotion coming through the screen. Truly awful.

As many have mentioned already, this isn't something these players are going to get over any time soon. To see and witness something like that first hand, all while playing the game you love. That's just not suppose to happen, ever. Feel for those guys.

It also puts the league in a tough position due to this tragedy happening so late in the season. They have to make a decision, but what can they do? You can't just cancel the season. It's basically playoff time so you can't delay the season for weeks and weeks either. But you also can't just throw those guys right back out on the field and tell them to suck it up and play either.

No that was false, he was only resuscitated once and that was on the field.

He was breathing with 100% of a ventilator, now he's breathing with only 50% of the ventilator, so that's good news.

They said he suffered some lung damage though.
