Comparing players that played different positions in different schemes is a little silly.
Imo, which is not really a highly regarded knowledgeable one, is that Walker would play better as a 43 end or 3t. In Detroit he could have had similar success to Hutch.
34 olb, dropping into coverage and two point stance rush does not suit him.
Imo it doesn't suit Josh Allen either.

But that's just like, my opinion, man.

But that's just like, my opinion, man.

A few things here. 

• Walker would probably be better as a 4-3 DE and that's why Campbell began slipping in more 4-3 looks with Walker in a three-point stance halfway through the season. 
  
• The staff has said all along they'd shift him inside as soon as they feel he's learned to play outside well enough that they aren't overloading him. And we've seen the first stages of that happening. More to come I'm sure. Which will mean less drop backs. 
  
• Everyone loses their mind over Walker dropping in coverage, but he did very well dropping in coverage. I don't know what the complainers were watching? He had 10 targets come his way, allowed only 5 receptions for zero TDs and recorded and INT. 58 yards given up all season. He was good there. 
  
• Allen was the one that had a few ugly mismatches, but for the most part did OK in coverage as well. Two of the best offenses we faced managed to get him manned up in the red zone for a TD, but he was not really a liability aside from those instances. Such is the risk of playing a 3-4, though. The Andy Reid's of the world will look to catch those guys having to cover. Allen - would be a good SAM backer in a 4-3.  
  

    And, yes I'd be 100% good switching to a 4-3 next season - or at least playing a lot more of it.

I feel like we're going to be moving him around and using his versatility as a coverage player more, but also to get more pressure against bigs inside. Should be a productive season if healthy, but probably not #1 overall pick type of production.

Walker has been a standout in camp along with Allen and RRH. if we can cover on the backend which we struggled last year till the last stretch, we will have a good year from the Rushers. if we can't cover and they get the ball out quick then no matter who you are you won't be getting sacks.

defense needs to play together to be very good.

i see Walker somewhere between 8-12 and 4 FF and 2 Ints.

After a year and an off-season of learning technique, positioning, and the system, he should be poised for a breakout year.

Because of the current state of the division and our offense poised to score early and often. I fully expect big things out of him in year two. I expect him to be the tip of the spearhead for this pass rush and unit overall.

I think he'll have 10+ sacks over the course of 17 games. I also expect him to force more than three fumbles this year with a TD on defense at some point. He needs to feast on guys like Richardson, Stroud and/or Levis/Wills/Tannehill.

Outside of five big games this year. Chiefs, Bills, Bengals, Ravens and 49ers. The rest of our opponents are either a step below us talent wise or maybe on the cusp of being on par with us. This defense will need to takeover in those games. Walker being the biggest contributor.

Agreed. I really think Walker's floor is more along the lines of Brian Orakpo and a shade of Ryan Kerrigan or Cameron Wake but with his ceiling being similar to John Abraham and Mario Williams. 

It's really going to boil down to how Caldwell uses him defensively because he can play OLB or DE. 

Today's premier pass rushers move around though. It's rare you see them sit still anymore on one side like we saw over the years with the all time greats in Reggie White and Bruce Smith.

What sucks is when he gets 7 sacks this year, everyone will say he improved and doubled his production and maybe the following year he can get into that 10-12 sack range. He should be getting 7 sacks from the inside (lined up over the guard).

The number this year should be at least 8, which is what Fowler had in the 2017 season and he was selected 3rd overall.

Walker needs 8 or more sacks this season.

They may have messed up not taking hutch. They definitely messed up not taking sauce. All pro rookie and didn’t come out of nowhere. A lot of people saw that coming. Idc if taking a cb 1 is too high for some, it’s better than possibly whiffing on a pass rush.

He is more Athletic not talented than those guys currently. Walker has not been a dominant pass Rusher at any stage in his career so far. He has the tools. If he puts them together is the real question. He is very raw as an edge Rusher. 

Go back and watch him last year. He gets the rookie mulligan but it was rough. Time and time again he would run right into the pads of blockers. He had very little edge technique or awareness.

Campbell/ Gardner would have been outrageous. Both on rookie contracts no less. Little to no chance we would have been able to hold both after rookie deals but we would have the duo together for roughly 3-5 years
