2023 Offseason Roster Moves

Key is the first major loss from our defense in FA.
Jags need a plan to replace his pressures. We show less advertisements to registered users. Accounts are free; join today!
Slay was released. he first came to Philly while Pederson was still HC. Idk how well he'd fit in a nickel CB role. He'd be an upgrade over Williams on the outside but then we can't move Williams back inside because he's not good there and then we'd have money tied up in a player who doesn't have a spot to fit. If Slay can play inside, that would be a nice addition.

Kind of what I figured. Still waiting on the Mayor to come back

Anyway - I'm very curious to see what happens on the DL and whether some scheme adjustment and more inside snaps for Walker are part of the equation. This seems to be the current FA hot topic with the loss of Key We show less advertisements to registered users. Accounts are free; join today! Walker really needs to step up this year and justify his #1 pick, and we're going to have to find someone else on top of that.

Smoot had a nice 6 or 7 game stretch where he was getting good pressure. (week 7-14) Not sure why you are assuming he's gone, though. With his injury, the Jags are probably the front runner to sign him if they trust he'll come back strong.

The standard prognosis is 6 months to recover from surgery (late June/early July) and 2-3 more months to regain full mobility (October) He could be ready by November. This is part of the reason why I said we'd be the front runner to sign him. He'll be cheap and could be solid rotational help by Nov/Dec. Not many other teams are looking to chance it with that scenario. All this talk about losing players on D and trying to replace them is a bunch of clanging cymbals to me.
The Jaguars priorities should be 1. Making sure Trevor stays upright and giving him a chance to lead a top 5 offense in the league for years to come, 2. Winning games in 2023. Priority 1 is much more important than priority 2. If we don't do enough to build the o line Trevor needs, he will want to leave and might not sign his extension. We need to think like we are the Cleveland cavaliers and this is 2009.
My fellow southpaw Mark Brunell will probably always be my favorite Jaguar.

If the Jaguars have serious interest in signing Slay and make a competitive contract offer, playing relatively close to home, and on a legit Super Bowl contender. could be the difference in the Jaguars landing Slay's services. If Slay is strictly an outside corner, is he THAT much of an upgrade over Williams to justify the cost of having him not play full time since he struggles at nickel as well

I wanted Slay when he was last a free agent, but the cap bargain way for us to handle CB is to keep our current duo and draft a nickel. Bryce Calahan is the one guy I think we could possibly sign for maybe 2 mil on a one year deal. By renewing our own players, you could say that we have dipped into FA...we just chose the devils we knew. But sure, that one guy is gonna make us contenders, right? |
