Monroe Traded

He (Caldwell) did indeed say that about "Marcedes being one of the cornerstones going forward". He said it after review of the roster shortly after he was hired. Other people on this board heard/ read it too.

Maybe you huffed paint or something last night because you tried to say the same thing yesterday. And you were called out for being wrong.

what  - do I have one of the "words" incorrect or something??? Are you trying to get me on some "technicality" or something?.....Because Caldwell indeed said something very close to what I typed up there. (regarding Marcedes)

We had this same discussion yesterday. Please find me a quote where Caldwell calls him a cornerstone. I'll give you the first step:

I wasn't "called out for being wrong", what happened was carly brought up that Caldwell also listed Monroe as another who he listed as being a building block/ cornerstone going forward, and that obviously didn't happen.

Its not a rental. You and others can keep repeating this falsehood all you want, but its not going to make it true.

This isn't the NY Yankees adding a cog at the trade deadline for their playoff run.....this is the Ravens adding a fixture for their team going forward, not sure why some of you refuse to see this other than you are in "Jags damage control" with this trade and trying to make it seem not as bad as it was.

How is it not a "rental" type of situation if Baltimore will have to sign him to a new contract after this season if they want to keep him? Is there language in Monroe's contract of which I'm not aware? Did Baltimore negotiate a sign and trade deal where Monroe has a contract that extends out past 2013?

I'm trying to make myself more informed and less opinionated.

Stop saying whatever stupid thing you're talking about and pay attention to all the interesting things I have to say!

Yeah, but he said that about Monroe too and obviously that wasn't the truth.

He was just blowing smoke up their rears to keep them motivated. Everyone's future is in doubt.

Yep -- said he had one of the hardest work ethics on the team as well.

I think "core group" is what he referred to them as.

I believe Poz and MJD also got that distinction.

Its only a rental when the intentions of the team signing him are just for a playoff run/ finish out the season

When a team trades for someone with the intentions of it not just being for this year/ and have full plans on giving him a long term deal, its not a rental.

Again, a "rental" is the NY Yankees making a deal at the trade deadline for bullpen help, or another bat in the lineup to tide them through the playoff run.....what Baltimore did here was so NOT that. Monroe's going to be there long term.

Prior to the draft, he said Monroe was part of the core of the team. Don't you think have the chance to take Joeckel may have altered the core?

Yes.....LOL ....thats what I figured, Bon Jagley is trying to get me on some technicality, when the main point I was saying still holds. "core group"/ "cornerstone going forward" still holds similar meaning to me. Thats why I used it.

But the price for Baltimore to have Monroe for the 2013 season is a Fourth and a Fifth round selection. Any performance by Monroe for Baltimore after March 1st -- isn't that the League's fiscal year? -- will have to be negotiated by Baltimore and Monroe. Regardless of their intentions, Monroe is not, at this point, a long-term solution for that team.

In my mind, that makes him a rental.

Classic TMD derailment.  Don't fall for the bait.

No. You claimed Caldwell said "Marcedes being one of the cornerstones going forward". He said nothing like that. He simply said Lewis was part of the core of the team. Like it or not, he is. The team just has a terrible core at the moment.

The chance to take Joekel was there before Caldwell was even with the team. He also said after the pick that they needed to be good at both tackles and that Joekel would be the RT.

Just blowing smoke.

You have zero knowledge of their intentions. Not that it matters, intentions are not contracts. They are only guaranteed him for 12 games. That is a rental and even if it is a rental what do you care ? They only paid peanuts anyway, Right?
