Evan Engram,single season record+New Contract

Also consider his current value will never be higher than what it is right now. He’s going to do everything he can to cash out.

Tom McManus says “I don’t feel like a long term deal is gonna get done.” (24:24 mark)
He also questions if Engram will be at camp. https://youtu.be/NgxoH_1cvIM (07-14-2023, 07:39 AM)JagFanatic24 Wrote: Tom McManus says “I don’t feel like a long term deal is gonna get done.” (24:24 mark) Nice podcast. Trivial information...my season tickets are next to where Tommy Mac's family sat during games. Great Guy...

Try to listen to them as much as I can on my early morning lunch breaks. I don't think a deal gets done at all. There's no rush now with Brenton Strange being a 2nd RD investment along with the fact that, they're going to have to create or leave some cap space out there in 2024 to make a decision on Calvin Ridley. We already have plenty of cap space tied up at WR between Zay Jones and Christian Kirk and then we should be getting a wallop back next year after Cam Robinson is gone and cleared off the cap. They made a good point about the TE market on that show last week. There wasn't enough going on at the position contract wise to really establish or set a strong market value for Evan Engram. If he comes out and plays out of his mind or similar to how he played last year on another tag? He'll get some fat loot from somebody in next year's free agency class for sure. I just don't think it happens here. I give Baalke credit though. Initially it was reported he wanted to lock Engram down on a multi year deal. Engram betted on himself and so far, it was probably the best decision of his career. I don't see him sitting out though. ![]() "What do I know of cultured ways, the gilt, the craft and the lie? Sitting out NEVER works in the favor of the player. He would return next year having to make up for the 11.5 million he bypassed just to break even. Say a 4 year deal that would require someone to play him north of 16 million a year for all 4 years just to break even. If he gets a deal like that and they out after 3 years he loses money. Not sure what that proves other than him and his agent do not understand the value of money today vs in the (uncertain) future.

Ramsey sat out during the season with the Jaguars and it worked out for him. He got traded to a new team, got paid more money, and won a Super Bowl championship. Jamarcus Russell sat out training camp and got himself a fat paycheck. It worked out for him. I could go on for days about how sitting out helps players and there are cases where it hurts players.
Engram won’t sit out for the season as in not being on the team BUT…he could miss time in camp due to stalled negotiations. Which could lead to distractions, and lack of production on the field. It could upset the flow of the offense and the timing of certain plays, which could lead to Lawrence being less efficient. It could lead to the offense being less explosive. It could upset other players. It could lead to him telling his agent he wants out. It could lead to him pulling a Ramsey with a mysterious back injury which means he will still get paid without having to play. This is for the guys that aren’t grasping what I’m trying to say - It could mess up the team chemistry and Engram could be with the team on the sideline but not being in the huddle and playing as the team’s starting Tight End. He could loaf in practice or tell the trainers that he is having knee pain etc. The franchise tag is black and white, but the scenarios that occur after that, are not. To everyone saying “ he can’t sit out, he won’t benefit from that, it will only hurt him, etc etc etc” please read the above: this isn’t a game we stick in our consoles and the game does what we tell it to do. Also…go to YouTube and type in Brandon Marshall kicks ball in practice. Just because a player is on the field does not mean he is playing at a high level. If a human being feels like he isn’t being treated fair, then it could affect that human being. And there are more ways to skin a cat than just 1. Engram will make sure he doesn’t lose money, but he will also ensure that he can make money in the future by not risking his health for a team that doesn’t secure his financial future. Or Lawrence might pull out 10 million dollars out of his account and give it to Engram and everyone is happy. ? With that said, here’s a look at what Engram accomplished in his first season as a Jaguar. Last season in the NFL among Tight Ends: only 4 TEs in the entire league had 2 or more 100 yard games. Kelce, Andrews, Hockenson, and Engram. Only 2 other TEs had more receptions than Engram. Hockenson and Kelce. Engram was 4th in the NFL with 766 yards and had 0 fumbles. Kelce, Andrews, Hockenson, Kittle, and Goedert all had atleast 1 fumble. Only 7 Tight Ends in the league had 700 or more yards. Kelce, Andrews, Hockenson, Kittle, Goedert, Freiermuth, and Engram. In 28 years, the Jaguars have 7 games where the Tight End has recorded 100 or more yards in a game. Only 2 of them have done it twice. - Pete Mitchell - Kyle Brady (twice in back to back weeks) wk 8 & 9 of 2000 - Julius Thomas - Marcedes Lewis - Evan Engram (twice within a 3 game stretch) wk 14 & 16 of 2022 The Jaguars have 3 Tight Ends that have scored 2 or more TDs in a single game. Zach Miller, Marcedes Lewis, and Evan Engram. Lewis is the only Jaguars TE to score 3 TDs in a single game vs the Ravens. In 2022 week 14, week 15, and week 16 Engram ripped the league up with 26 receptions, 337 yards, and 2 TD. That is top 5 all time in franchise history for receiving production over a 3 game span. Let’s take a look at some of the highest receiving numbers over 3 games in team history. 2000 Jimmy Smith - 27 catches 464 yards 5 TD 1999 Jimmy Smith - 29 catches 476 yards 3 TD 1996 Keenan McCardell - 28 catches 356 yards 0 TD 2022 Evan Engram - 26 catches 337 yards 2 TD Let’s take a look at some of the most craziest offensive Jaguars stats over a 3 game span (3 consecutive games in a row). - 2006 Jones Drew 649 all-purpose yards and 6 TD - 2000 Fred Taylor 557 rush and receiving and 8 TD - 1999 Jimmy Smith 476 receiving yds 3 TD - 2000 Jimmy Smith 464 yds receiving and 5 TD - 1997 James Stewart - whadda wonderful wonderful day, little man Stewart…269 yards with 6 TD

Great news, well deserved. Hopefully he can help support Strange to develop alongside him. TEs take time to develop so this will allow time to develop.
Bringing back the final piece from last year's offence. Happy days, don't know what you guys were worrying about.
Sure is a lot of money to sit the bench while Josh Pederson gets all the snaps.

Paying a guy 6th highest in money for a potential top 3 - 5 player at the position for the next 3 years if he and Lawrence keep connecting. Get Ridley for at least a year to draw safety coverage away from him in the middle.

Now that the Engram watch is officially over bring on the season and maybe a stop gap edge rusher!

Someone needs to start an "Evan Engram Signed!" Thread.

TL has his TE, Doug gets a TE that matches his plays and Evan gets rewarded. Nice signing for both parties. The 3 year duration is interesting and could provide the Jags with flexibility.
Safety only has to float/flinch a bit towards Evan and Ridley will toast him.
