If you could pick 1 more move prior to the 2023 season what would it be?

You have to stay within the cap, but you can be creative if money is involved. What would you do?

Get through two weeks of camp and determine what your true weak points are.
Then do your best to find some semblance of help for one or two spots. Unfortunately, I think it's more likely they go 3-3 before realizing they should have done more for NB and LG. I'm no pessimist, and I don't think this is going to sink our season, but I feel they phoned it in at those spots when the draft didn't fall how they anticipated and they couldn't trade back up. Your anticipated starters for these spots are Bartch and Herndon. Bartch playing at a high level would be a bit surprising especially coming off injury, and no one expects Herndon to cover well. The pieces brought in to compete with them are all long shot journeymen, cast-offs, and late rounders. Fingers crossed that I end up eating these words with some deep-fried crow. Let the rest sort itself out for now, if we need any more bandaids they will come after roster cuts.

I'd replace him with Maulet from the Steelers. The guy is definitely a journeyman, but he can play, especially if it's for just one year. “An empty vessel makes the loudest sound, so they that have the least wit are the greatest babblers.”. - Plato

More likely during final cuts when we churn that bottom 5-8 spots of the 53
I'm signing Ronald Darby to solve the problem at nickel. If they won't pay him, Maulet is the 2nd choice.
I would also go with a vet DE. If Allen goes down the Jaguars are in trouble. We need someone that can get 6-8 sacks.
Maybe wait for a surprise cut from another team. We can make the rest of the roster work.
Trade a 2024 2nd or lower (as appropriate) for an upgrade on the interior o line.
My fellow southpaw Mark Brunell will probably always be my favorite Jaguar.

Tell Yan he’s breaking Brackens all time record here, and that we’re sorry for how it all went down. We need some more pass rush help

Teams have paid him and he has produced as a pass rusher, but in the end no team has been willing to give him a second season. I see him as maybe a luxury signing for some team that thinks they are just one piece away from the SB, but we are still too young to be thinking like that.
My choices in order would be:
Yan - I'm probably sounding like a broken record, but he had 9.5 sacks last year, 10 sacks the year before and has never had below 8 sacks in any season during his entire seven year career. To put it in perspective, our sack leader last year had 7 sacks. Even in Yan's worst year, he beats it. Houston - If we can't get Yan or he's too expensive, Houston would be my pick. His age is my only concern. Risner - It's our weakest offensive starting position. Bartch isn't healthy and even if he was, Risner is better. Bartch and Shatley could be depth.

It might come down to the Jaguars having to trade a draft pick away for a DE. 2 starters on the offensive line will be returning by week 6. Even if they don’t return as the starters, they are still starting caliber players in Robinson and Bartch.
I don’t see how this franchise can trust Walker and Allen on the edges after what they produced last season. You definitely want insurance incase Walker has another 3.5 type of season. Atleast they know what Allen’s floor is. Ngakoue is probably going to the highest bidder like a Dallas, Jets, or Cleveland. He burned some bridges in the River City. If you look at what the Jaguars have in the 2024 draft, it’s not a bad idea to trade away a pick or 2 for a veteran player that can come in and contribute immediately. We’re probably going to lose a 2nd or 3rd pick for Ridley, but we’re probably going to get a pick back for Arden Key which will be something like a 6th. However, Jawaan Taylor will most likely net us a 3rd and Marvin Jones could net us another 7th. Also we are getting a 4th and a 6th from Carolina and New Orleans…To make things simple, the Jaguars could potentially have 12 picks in next years draft class. At worst we will have 11 picks if Marvin Jones doesn’t net anything. We’re talking the last pick in the 7th round either way, which means the Jaguars will have 11 picks at worst. The Jaguars also set a franchise record by selecting 13 players from this past draft. They’re going to have more young guys than they can shake a stick at so we could possibly trade for a more productive defensive end and/or offensive lineman than what’s currently on the open market. Probably have enough ammunition to go get both if they wanted to. Heck we can’t do any worse than the Dobbs, Hyde, and/or Dan Arnold trades. Surely they won’t draft 25 players over a 2 year span will they? I mean that’s half of an NFL roster. Trade some picks and go get Trevor what he needs to win a Super Bowl right now. We’re low on cash, but we got gold bars in the back for emergencies. Obviously this means all of the Free Agents are off the menu in this scenario. Another issue with this would be signing them to new deals and we’re already tight on the check book with Lawrence’s deal looming. And then there’s Tyson Campbell is going to get paid a ton of money. I actually hope Campbell doesn’t make the Pro Bowl just so we can keep him. If he goes All Pro or Pro Bowl then you probably lose him. We show less advertisements to registered users. I think load up on talent while Lawrence is still cheap, as long as it does not break the cap longterm. This may mean going for that stud DE. Doubt we could afford more than 1 more major piece, even with fancy accounting.

Doubt we could afford more than 1 more major piece, even with fancy accounting. Smoot is that guy. He’s not a stud but he has 22.5 sacks since 2017. He’s going to give you about 6 to 7 sacks in a full season. He can also line up over the guard when needed. (07-24-2023, 10:35 AM)Cleatwood Wrote: I'm signing Yan and Risner This. It makes the most sense with two of our three biggest areas of concern. We still do not have a consistent, pass rusher on the roster. Ngakoue at least has that going for him. Risner can play LG or LT/RT if I am not mistaken. This is a huge plus to have with guys like Bartch coming off of IR from October of last year (especially with his name popping up on the PUP list already), Robinson's suspension, Wells being signed up for a year after his season ended on IR last year in Tampa and Harrison and Little being inexperienced at their respective positions. It's spooky how quiet and how downplayed the offensive line has been this offseason locally and nationally. I only heard a few concerns mentioned here and there. ![]() "What do I know of cultured ways, the gilt, the craft and the lie? I, who was born in a naked land and bred in the open sky. I'm bringing it Tebow to help motivate this current roster. Our QBs and TEs could learn a lot from this guy.

Id look into extending Allen and signing Yan with the savings from extending Allen.
I don’t want a situation this offseason if Allen and Ridley go off and only have one franchise tag to give. I’m not worried about the LG spot. We got plenty of bodies and frankly if Rausch is good with it we should be too.
