OL - 2023

All of these analytics guys coming out with these low ratings of our pass protection does not bode well.
I've ben trying to warn about this for a long time though. https://www.duvalpride.com/showthread.php?tid=38118 Not enjoying the vindication. https://twitter.com/benbbaldwin/status/1...22081?s=20 We show less advertisements to registered users. Accounts are free; join today!

I hear you loud and clear. You only pay attention to the things that support your view. I get it. It's challenging to consider contrary positions. Easier to dismiss them. Weak as well, but easier. No argument there,

No argument there, I'm not dismissing anything. You are quoting a stat most heavily graded upon whether or not sacks are allowed. There are a crap ton of factors that determine that besides the lineman actually winning his block. I am intentionally putting more weight on the stat that is MOST RELEVANT to exactly what I was talking about. (our linemen getting beaten in pass protection) You've merely introduced a different stat that is much less specific to my point.

Gotta agree with NYC4jags about the O-Line. Still wish they would have taken Torrence in the 2nd. Maybe they could have traded up for Strange in the 3rd since they obviously like him.
But lack of more serious attention to both lines (O-Line/pass rush) and corner is concerning to me.
The O-Line is definitely a concern but still was just good enough to give Etienne some production; and in pass protection, I feel we finally have the caliber of QB who can overcome it with quick passes, stepping up, mobility, and changing plays at the line.
Burrow is the most sacked QB league and has put up great numbers. Their O-Line is definitely worse. Trevor isn’t quite there yet, but it’s a lesson that I would rather have the really good QB over the mediocre o-line then the other way around. Having an elite o-line is usually a 1-2 year lasting occurrence. Injuries, FA, and so on can change its composition quickly, so you better have a guy who knows what he doing behind that line. I don’t think our line is so horrible to the point it would significantly alter Trevor’s career progress. We show less advertisements to registered users. Accounts are free; join today! Imagine what this offense would be with that. Red: The bungles projected OL in 2023 is being predicted to come in around 16th in the league in pass pro based on the analytics available. Ours is predicted MUCH lower. (26-31 based on who you ask) I - like many - take these analytics with many grains of salt. But unfortunately - these predictions support what I saw last season from our OL. A rookie at RT isn't going to make that better. At least, it is highly unlikely. LG is a total guessing game right now. Might be solid, might suck. Center should be better - and better than these projections I'm seeing and posting - because its year two and he looks stronger - but he got absolutely whipped in pass pro last year. Multiple sites graded him a bottom 5 center in pass pro last year. RG depends on the sustained health and durability of a seasoned vet who had an off year last year and a long history of injuries. I'm cautiously optimistic Scherff is solid to "good" this year and plays 14-16 games. Bottom line for me: If this current projected lineup stays mostly healthy and plays a bit better than I expect, we'll be fine to have another season like last year. If this line had pass protection on the level of a top ten OL - We'd blow the doors off of many opponents early in games and control the second half with ease. And we'd be able to keep up on the scoreboard with teams like the chefs and bungles. Giving Trevor time and space to work and receivers time to get downfield more often would change [BLEEP] radically.
I think the offensive line will be good enough. It was good enough to get Etienne over 1,000 yards rushing. Engram had the most yards by any Jaguar TE. Kirk went over 1,000 yards. Trevor threw over 4,000 yards with 8 picks.
We won a playoff game with this oline minus Taylor. (Robinson will be back if things go bad with Little and Harrison). I like where we are overall as a team. We can’t have studs at every spot. Guys just have to step up and make plays. Lineman too. (07-27-2023, 08:26 PM)JagFanatic24 Wrote: I think the offensive line will be good enough. Etienne and Lawrence can make lemons out of lemonade, but both would do even better with a better line. God forbid either of them go down, but if they do, the deficiencies of the o-line will be more obvious in that case.
My fellow southpaw Mark Brunell will probably always be my favorite Jaguar.
There was a crazy shootout one year in the AFC divisional round? I want to say 2021...Buffalo and KC (KC won). where the last 5 minutes or so the teams were taking 30 seconds or less to score and swap the lead. During that game I noticed the difference was KC's receivers were able to get down field and Buffalo's could not because the Bills O-line couldn't give Josh enough time. KC's DC seeing this jumped the short routes. It wasn't a lot of time but was the difference ... Just my opinion....
So, this is what Phil Rauscher needs to do with what he is given to work with this year.
A new broom always sweeps clean.

Cam Robinson has the highest pass blocking grade for a OT on play action passes in the whole league. Crazy

Jacksonville’s Cam Robinson did not allow a single sack or quarterback hit while giving up just one hurry on 133 plays with play action. Similarly, rookie Braxton Jones did not allow a single sack or hit but did surrender four hurries on these plays.
The offensive line is a concern. Especially if this team is expected to be running deep in December and pushing for a play-off game or two. Robinson gave up his block in Detroit that effected Lawrence for the rest of the year. His toe was constantly coming up on the injury report from that week on. When you and look at the primary contests, the big games, mostly, the two losses to the Chiefs? They completely controlled the LOS most of the time in those games. Lawrence was not able to comfortably sit back there on the longer, developing plays downfield.
It was disappointing. It's the scheme and pre snap ability that masked a lot of these faults last year on offense. Again, he had the 2nd quickest release last year in the QB rankings. Sandwiched in between Brady and Mahomes. We have to protect our QB. We have to give him more time in the pocket. Hell, we almost put Mahomes out of commission when Key got to him. We couldn't take advantage of that opportunity. They still got it done. However, Mahomes is a freak of nature. As good as he was with a bum ankle? Imagine what he does if he's not dealing with that? Those are the kinds of things we have to start thinking about as fans. Yes, it's nice Lawrence has a Manning level mind when it comes to reading defense. Yes, it's good that he can read and react quickly. Yes, it's good that he can get out of the pocket and use his mobility to bail him out. Again, however, once you get into the bigger games with bigger names? You have to play better in the trenches. If we cannot protect Lawrence nor get after our opponent's QB? We'll be stuck in play-off hell limbo for many years to come. Everybody in this group this year has to step it up and step it up fast. Pretty sure we all [BLEEP] teal colored bricks when he got bent awkwardly last year in Detroit. Don't want to see that [BLEEP] again in 2023. ![]() "What do I know of cultured ways, the gilt, the craft and the lie? I, who was born in a naked land and bred in the open sky.
