If you could pick 1 more move prior to the 2023 season what would it be?

Zack Martin has 2 years left on his contract. Would be sweet if he played them here. Now where is that wishing well at?

Would like to get a veteran role-playing pass rusher or Safety. Not partial to anyone, Ngakoue, Hunter, Young. I was sad not getting Buddha Baker. The Cisco/Jenkins tandem could be improved upon I feel like. The defense let us down late in some games earlier in the year last year and don't want to live through that again.

I say we put Antonio Johnson in and just play Big Nickel. There was a time when people thought Antonio Johnson was the best safety in college football.

Iirc the sentiment was that Antonio Johnson was the best NB in college. But I've heard we're playing him at safety so IDK.

There’s a reason Yan cannot stick with a team. Just saying…

LOL

Actually each team had their own reasons not to retain.

Minn got another pass rusher back from injury and moved him to Balt
Balt drafted a pass rusher to replace him cheaper
Vegas fired their defensive staff and started over in a new scheme
and Indy did the same as Vegas ^

His lackluster performance vs the run is the other issue that factored into these decisions.

The big nickel role has been mentioned as a spot for Johnson if he fares well in camp/preseason.
It's a package though - so it would be used situationally against certain opponents who favor certain personnel groupings.
There will still need to be a traditional nickel and that will probably be someone else when that package is on the field.

At least one of the better beat writers has suggested we'll see a greater number of packages from the back 7 on defense this year and there could be as many as 3 different players manning the slot role in differing packages.
Just speculation though.

I think they are taking an open minded approach to finding the best players to fit there however possible since they weren't able to acquire the mid round talent they (reportedly) intended for the position. That intention has been reported by several talking heads, but I cannot attest to the validity of the claim.
