Same thing we’ve all been saying.

Last night Hutch had 3 tackles and 1 asst and 0 sacks.

If inside means interior defensive line, Hutch did not move inside.  He had at least 1 stunt that took him up the middle perhaps a few others, but my eyes were on him for most of the game and that description by McManus if you are quoting him correctly doesn't match what I saw.

I mean he could have for a few plays and I missed it, but I don't recall seeing it and I was pretty well locked in on him when they were on defense for the vast majority of the game.  And if it did happen for a few plays, I wouldn't go on the radio and say definitively that they moved him inside is all.  Also, I don't really get IDL vibes from Hutch.

Considering we also play the chiefs right after the lions got them, it will be a nice back to back week comparison for how the two performed against the same competition.

Jawaan had some really weird splits and still got messed with. Glad he is KC's problem. I really hope Walker gets to line up and abuse him in week 2. That said, I hope we see great work out of the defense against Indy this week.

A lot of us thought Hutch would be a good pro but Walker had more upside. Hopefully he starts proving us right soon.

More upside is really just another way of saying looks like Tarzan, plays like Jane.

The guy had a highlight tape of him making tackles in coverage. I doubt he ever becomes a player worthy of his draft position.

Picks like that are how the Jaguars could throw away Trevor's career.

It means you're taking a player that's more raw than someone else but has more physical talent. Sometimes it pans out. Sometimes it doesn't. I think it was risky to take the gamble that high but we've got to see it play out. He may ultimately end up being seen as overdrafted but no was does Walker play like Jane. Maybe Cheeta.

This. A lot of people were screaming when Baalke passed on Hutchison. And so far, they have proven right. Baalke wanted to show he was the smartest guy in the room so he took someone who had potential, rather than a proven asset. 

I watched the Lions/Chiefs game last night as Hutchison was totally disruptive to Mahomes, and kept thinking "we should have had that guy."

Mahomes had an average of 3.98 seconds to throw and Hutchinson constantly over pursued.  He whipped Taylor on a few plays but that's it.

Calm down.

Agreed. I really think Walker will be fine. I am confident in his strength and size alone. I just hope he's added a nasty spin move or hump move to chain with his strength this year. I cannot tell you how many times I saw this kid last year just line-up, engage and try to push back his blocker like it was a sled. 

It's okay to try and rip this guy to one side or outright rip him to shreds. LOL.

You actually typed the word but don't seem to understand its meaning.

I understand the meaning. In this situation we had the choice for an excellent pretty much sure thing vs. maybe even better potential. For the first pick in the draft, I thought it was foolish not to take teh sure thing - picking potential is riskier, which is what we saw last year. If you're talking about a lower draft choice I could see choosing the perceived potential, but not the #1 pick. That's what we saw last year. Hutchison smoked Walker. 

What I saw Hutchison do last night against the Chiefs was far more impressive than anything I've seen Walker this do this preseason against lesser opponents. I'll be very happy to accept that Walker was the right choice when he is outperforming Hutchison. Right now, he's not even close.

Hutchison pressured Mahomes frequently. He was all over the field. He's already a leader on the defense. And he did it in KC. Let's see how Walker does against Mahomes in Jacksonville in a couple weeks. I really hope you Walker supporters are right. I'd love to say I was wrong about it. But based on performance so far, it's not even close.

This is exactly right. A later pick, I'd agree with the strategy. Not #1. At  #1 he needs to perform, not look like he will perform.

The crazy thing is Hutch had very high potential and was an insane athlete as well.  With that said Walker's potential is through the roof.  Hopefully he starts to put it together.  I think he will at least double his sack total from last year.  I say he gets at least 7 sacks but he also will make a lot of game changing plays even if it's not a sack

I disagree. I think everyone knew that Hutch's ceiling was 10-12 sacks a year. I don't remember anyone thinking that he was going to be putting up DPOY numbers.

Hutch's ceiling is higher than 10-12 sacks.  Hell,he almost got that as a rookie.  I think he has the potential to put up DPOY numbers, I wouldnt of wanted him 1st overall if if I thought less, and a number of people wanted to draft him 1st overall.  He's 19th All time in RAS for a DE, he's an insane athlete and also has a nice set of pass rush moves.  What do you think is holding him back on continued improvement from his rookie year?

I think the same could be said for "rolling the dice" on a #1 pick.... you don't.

Yes, I've posted several times that choosing an upside pick early is always going to be controversial. 

But once it's done - you can't suddenly behave like that player wasn't always supposed to have a developmental transition to the league. 

This isn't pointed at you personally, but - It's pretty funny how attitudes have shifted since drafting the kid. 

Seems like we had around 30-40% of the fan base opposed to the pick - another 30% with a wait and see attitude - and the remainder fired up for the freak show athlete upside. 

Now you're lucky to find 10% of the fan base with any inkling of patience for a 22 year old kid with a bright future
I know instant gratification is the order of the day, but it's pretty laughable to me. 
I still think the kid will pan out to be really good. I really do. 

I think we'll see a nice step from him this year, and the better the back seven become in coverage over this year and the next, so will his disruption. 

I don't feel right about lambasting a rookie for not getting home enough when your defense plays a lot of zone that basically surrenders the middle of the field underneath due to a combo of scheme + bad play from ILB and SS in coverage duty.

I think you're missing a whole group in your percentages... 30% wait and see plus expect decent production because it is after all the very first pick of the draft.

True, saying he plays like Jane is exaggerating. He doesn't justify his draft position with his play, but he seems like he could end up a guy like Alualu. Plays 10+ years as a contributor but never a pro bowl type.

He'd have been a fine third or fourth round pick, he's just going to always catch criticisms because of how stupid the Jaguars were to draft him where they did.

Add in a couple more sacks and maybe a penalty or two less for last year and I doubt near as many people start questioning. It was just a very underwhelming year for a first round let alone a number one pick.

I don't doubt walker is gonna be a great player. My concern is if it's fast enough considering the place he was drafted.

What's funny is most of this was off Taylor. Harrison was also owning Hutch at training camp lol. There were 1 or 2 that thought the Chiefs signing Taylor to that massive contract was a good move for them lol. Just glad we have Harrison there instead of Taylor
