Jaguar PFF grades week 1

#1

On offense I love the fact that Lawrence is not blamed for the int.  Lawrence was #1 ranked player this week and Ridley is ranked #2 on the team.  Walker little also had a great debut this season. All great signs.

Tyson Campbell may be the best defender on the team.  Josh Allen comes in at 2 and was probably his best game in years.  Darious Williams has found a home on the outside.  Dewey made the upper tier but do not remember seeing him. Travon Walker graded as many of as saw him. It was great to see him getting to the QB.  He still remains a rough project but yesterday gives us hope he may be able to get to the QB more consistently.

Find the grading scale interesting. How is D'Ernest Johnson ranked higher than some of the other offensive players if he only had 1 carry for a loss? I don't recall seeing him anywhere else in the game. Special teams maybe?

Fortner and Bartch grading under 50.0 is not surprising. They sucked. Going to really suck against Chris Jones this Sunday as well.

It was Bartches first game back since the bad injury and he missed most of training camp and preseason.  Fortner has been healthy and had a full camp.  Doesn't look like Fortner has improved from last year.

True. Bartch had not played since October of last year. Being a little harsh on him, however, we can also point the finger at the coaching staff for that decision. We're just not lucky with the offensive line group it seems. Injuries continue to hamper the hell out of this squad.

Not sure how you fix that now entering week two in the NFL. Other than just time and reps hopefully making these guys better. I think they need to consider Little at LG or Robinson at LG when he's back. I would think Shatley should play Center potentially with Fortner playing RG if Scherff physically cannot hold up.

I think we'll see Little at LG, Cam at LT ,

unfortunately we may just have to pray Fortner gets better at Center - Shatley sucked last year at guard and def didn't get better- Daryl Williams is the third option - played well in preseason vs 3rd stringers, but... who knows?

RG - gotta pray Scherff can play through minor injury well enough to be "solid" - no help on horizon unless Hance is some kind of miracle godsend

RT - The rookie looks good so far

LG is so bad on this team. It's definitely the weakest link on the Oline.

I would be looking to make a major upgrade this upcoming off season.

Along with Center.  When you have the 32nd ranked center and there's 32 teams in the league, it's just as bad if not worse.  He played no better Sunday than he did last year.  Little at LG is much better than Fortner at C imo and at least Bartch is usually a good run blocker, Fortner can't run block or pass block.  C is a huge need unless Fortner starts playing better

Just looked it up. Fortner was actually graded better last year than he was Sunday and was worse than Bartch who was coming back from a horrible injury and no traing camp and almost no preseason

Fortner needs to be at Guard. I brought it up a few times this off season but I had no idea that he only had one year of starting experience at Kentucky as a Center. He played his other three or four years (covid keeps making me think he played five years for some reason, not sure) at Guard.

Maybe it's too much for him. It is early though. Maybe it was week one jitters. To be fair. DeForest Buckner is one of the better DT's in the NFL. He's been a handful for most opponents for years now.

It'll be the same issue with Chris Jones this Sunday coming up. While Fortner clearly needs to play better, it's also fair to say that he's had some difficult players to contest with.

Well it won't get much easy next week against another All Pro in Grady Jarrett.  It's the NFL, it's going to be a tough matchup almost every week.  If he can't handle it we need to find another center

I believe their grades generally start at a baseline of 60, then the actual play grade and they do a positional adjustment to normalize the grades.  So he probably was at a -.5 for that play then adjusted down slightly for position.

PFF grades don’t consider Fortner went up against an all pro all game, while Harrison is blocking their lowest graded pass rusher or an average player.

Not saying that’s what happened, just an example.

It's fair. I was looking at Joe Tippmann leading up to this year's draft. The Center out of Wisconsin. It's pretty eye opening that out of the 13 some odd selections we had that we only addressed the offensive line twice. At the top of the draft in RD1 and then on the final day of the draft in RD7.

With Hodges being on IR from the 7th RD. They'll have to address the glaring interior issues next year. Unless Robinson is going to be the fixture at LT longer than most of us on here care to realize, including myself (I just can't get over his damn near $20M cap hit this year) and hopefully Little becomes a natural problem solver at LG.

This still won't make up for Fortner at Center and Scherff's inconsistency and injury concerns at RG. Bummer for now.

I am 50/50 with Herndon. I don't hate the guy. I also don't love the guy. His challenges will come when he's faced up against the bigger name QB's this year. Starting with Mahomes this Sunday.

I am telling you, if he's lined-up on Rice out of SMU this Sunday? That's a potential make or break match-up in this whole game. He plays faster than people give him credit for.

Herndon had a good game

Would love to see him do it against a vet QB and a good slot receiver
