Carp, I think the bolded sentence is what's giving you the most problem. Did we actually look "really tight" last year? Looking back I don't really think we looked much better than we currently look. The only difference is last year we had a few bad things actually go good for us. Good teams don't require a ridiculously hot hand at the end of the season to even make the playoffs. Look how bad we were for the first half of the Chargers game. Getting as far into the playoffs as we did, did nothing but get everyones hopes high. Truth of the matter, it only would of taken a play of two for us to not even make the playoffs. I think everyone needs to wrap their mind around that. We just aren't where we would like to be. As for Ridley, I think he will be just fine. He was out for quite a long time. You see his motor and drive. It almost feels like hes trying too hard. It's gonna take some time, but I think our offense will come around.

It’s not about Ridley being “fine.” It’s about Ridley causing the offense to operate different. Kirk should be the 1 and Jones the 2 with Engram doing his thing and Etienne doing his.
Can we trade Ridley for Chandler Jones and a 3rd?
If Ridley catches his dropped balls, we probably don't even have this conversation. Trevor used Kirk quite a bit during the KC game and this past game the distribution was almost even. Ya'll are freaking out about how bad the gameplan changed. Zay Jones was out, so Trevor targeted Ridley (7), Engram (8) and Kirk (6), Etienne (5), which is exactly what you would expect. Yes, the play calling is suspect, but obviously they aren't just straight focusing on one player (Ridley) like you guys are calling. It's the 3rd game of the season and Ridleys been out a couple of years. Dude at least deserves a year before you guys are calling for his head.

The only issue with Ridley is some recent uncharacteristic drops. He hasn't been Toney week 1 bad but he's had a rough 2 weeks. If he catches a few of these we aren't even having this conversation. Him being here isn't the problem, it's the drops, and I don't expect them to stay very long.

BUMPING OLD THREAD
I was about to post about Ridley being just fine as many of us said he would be, but Shipley said it perfectly here: https://twitter.com/_John_Shipley/status...96490?s=20

The Jags currently owe the Falcons their 2024 4th round pick, but at Ridley's current rate of production that will become a 3rd. Then the 3rd becomes a 2nd if the Jags and Ridley agree to a new contract.
Unless I'm misunderstanding something, it's more costly for the Jags to sign him than it would be for a new team to sign him. If so, that means it's almost certain he doesn't sign here. If he does well he will get more money from a new team, not from the Jags, right?
My fellow southpaw Mark Brunell will probably always be my favorite Jaguar.

ridley was a hand away from taking that screen to the house as well. he had a good game, that drop hurt but rest of his game was good.

You think they could call Ridley into the office and be like "look we want to extend you, but we're gonna work a little loophole with the trade. Sign the tag tender, then after the draft we'll do your long term deal" or is that against the rules?

I don’t know.
He’s definitely playing decent. But like or not, Ridley came with the hype and pedigree of a game breaking receiver. Maybe not quite Tyreek level, but for me personally (emphasis on that) I haven’t seen those kind of “game breaking” plays yet, plays or even a game where his gameplay tilted the field or broke a game open. There is still time of course. But I’m still in cautiously wait and see mode (10-30-2023, 01:31 PM)mikesez Wrote: The Jags currently owe the Falcons their 2024 4th round pick, but at Ridley's current rate of production that will become a 3rd. Giving up the higher pick and any new deal he gets will be pricy, yes, but there may be some value to keeping a guy already familiar with the system, in good harmony with your star QB, and probably at their peak performance age. Otherwise, you have to start again and search for a guy who not only has "it", but manages to fit the offense and gel with a loaded roster of receivers that are likely gonna drain some of your stats away. There's costs on both sides of the coin.

The issue I see, is theres almost too many weapons to guarantee they are all gonna be able to have big games. Trevor has done a great job of spreading the ball around, but theres only so many opportunities a game. We've seen Ridley, Kirk, Engram, and ETN all have individual big games. It'll be tough to feed them all, but I think its safe to assume 1 will almost always have a big game with others having decent games. This isn't even adding in players like Zay, Agnew, Strange etc eating up some of the targets also. Not sure moving forward if giving up alot to keep Ridley is gonna be worth it. I don't think they can afford to tag him while leaving Josh Allen wide open to the market coming off of what will undoubtedly be his best season to date. He's on pace to set the new single-season franchise mark in sacks. Unless they hammer something out quickly it's just too risky in my opinion. This is going to be an interesting off-season in just four months from now. A lot of decisions to make. Josh Allen Calvin Ridley Cam Robinson Then, you have to start looking at other contract extensions. Little, Cisco, Cleveland, Campbell, Williams, etc. Hoping like hell this team wins it all in February. After that? I can stomach or accept anything they decide to roster wise short of trading Lawrence away for whatever crazy, stupid cosmic reason. ![]() "What do I know of cultured ways, the gilt, the craft and the lie?
