Russia invades Ukraine

So basically the Soviets didn't care about soldiers surviving so they made inferior fighting vehicles. The soldiers fighting now have no idea how much better a Bradley is to their crap so they think direct hits not only kills the vehicle but those inside.

They dumb.

Communist doctrine always regards soldiers as fodder. Their stunted economies allow for quantity, not quality. As Stalin once wryly remarked, "Quantity has a quality all its own." The Soviets and the Chinese (as demonstrated in the Korean war) poorly equip their fighters and then send them into battle by the legion.

The Russian military industry is awash in corruption. Coupled with the still prevalent Soviet-think, poor Russian conscripts stand little chance against modern western weapons and are led to slaughter.

So when is this [BLEEP] going to end? Next year when a new President is elected and he/she/they/them has to ask everybody to play nice? Or, will this eventually escalate into a global conflict over additional stresses? Such as BRIC getting away from the USD as it's primary currency to trade with in goods.

A few years ago I read a book about how the USSR built Chernobyl and all the 'shortcuts' they took in the name of being the Big Kahuna of nuclear power. Corruption was a big part of it. It's no wonder the Chernobyl disaster happened and the whole story perfectly shows how Russia has always been about quantity not quality as you pointed out.

I feel for the average Russian as I do for the average citizens of all countries who are increasingly being made to pay for the corruption seen more and more in politics across the board, especially ours.

The Ukranians are effectively applying drone technology to fight Russia. But these are literal toys compared to what the U.S. and China have. Drones are in the process of completely changing warfare.

The next generation of military aircraft won't have pilots. The U.S. is already well on its way to developing 'wingman' aircraft which fly autonomously with manned aircraft to perform various missions from air-to-air combat, bombing and reconnaissance. The Navy is already using drones as air-to-air refueling craft.

Here’s a video touching on drones teaming with manned aircraft. As far as I know, we lead the world in this technology and it is an effective force multiplier. Not only can they be used for offensive missions with ordnance, but can also team with F-35s to conduct electronic warfare missions. It’s a pretty cool watch if you have 8 minutes.

The video cutaway take after the drone makes contact is funny.

This is the future of war. Drones will control the battlefield of the future. The Ukrainians make do pretty well with mostly off the shelf parts and craft. They're a resourceful bunch. Imagine what a highly developed military like ours or the Chinese have developed.

The poor guy getting waxed as he cops a squat is sad, or funny, depending on your world view.

My dad was a hardened WWII combat vet, and he told me how he once sniped a German soldier in the act. War is truly hell.

The link in this story warns ahead of time the footage is graphic. They weren't lying. You've been forewarned.

"Fun fact" about the Marine Force Recon units who invaded Iraq. They were strongly told to wear adult diapers while en route because war doesn't stop just because you have to. Sounds like these Russians need adult diapers.

Here’s an article illustrating how American weapons developers are using the war in Ukraine (and Gaza, I’m sure) as active research, development and intelligence gathering theaters.

We didn’t start the war and it would be foolish not to benefit from it along the lines of weapons development.

It is what it is. While this practice may cause more deaths on the Ukrainian battlefield, it potentially saves American lives on future battlefields.

Is there any doubt our adversaries weren’t applying intelligence gathered from our 20 year foray in the Middle East?

Intelligence is the higher moral position?

We're not killing them.

Offering Ukraine weapons lets them decide if they want to take them and use them to resist, or not use them and surrender.

Russia is to blame for the deaths, they started it.
Ukraine could be blamed next, they chose to resist.
The US has nearly zero ethical responsibility for the dead Ukrainians and dead Russians.
My fellow southpaw Mark Brunell will probably always be my favorite Jaguar.

From strictly a humanitarian view, it's a deplorable moral position. From a contemporary real worldview, it is an essential moral position.
