Still has work to do as a pass rusher but I see improvement. Let's see how it goes. Inside stunts are enough to get him matched against guards.

In regards to Hutchinson, I really wanted him and was upset when Baalke took Walker.  You don't risk the #1 overall pick on a project particularly when there's a proven commodity.  Can you imagine how good this defense would be if we had Hutchinson right now?

In regards to Meyer, I know it will be unpopular with many because Meyer is the devil, but I noticed this as well.  I wonder if our great Day 1 and 2 of the 2021 draft was due to Meyer.  I admit Trevor was a no brainer, but getting ETN, Tyson Campbell, Walker Little and Cisco are great picks.  I'm aware Meyer wanted Toney instead of ETN, but no GM is perfect.  He did want ETN among those who were available and it was a great pick.

I know it's still early, but as of right now, it's as if the quality of our drafts dropped starting on Day 3 of the 2021 draft and Baalke has not done a great job since then.  Head coaches often have significant influence over the early part of the draft, but then rely on the GM and scouts for Day 3 which could explain why it fell off on Day 3 of 2021.  Baalke then had no Urban Meyer in 2022 and 2023.  It's only a theory, but there does appear to be a correlation there.  Our good picks in 2021 might be the result of Meyer's influence.

I still don't want to call him a miss, we have four years total to find out where he plays better. I think as long as the team is winning and the defense is playing well they would not move Walker inside, they are playing so well that maybe moving any piece can mess with the defense.

Would you take Hutch's 14 sacks right now over Travon's, what, 5?  We're betting on maybe 14 sacks one day versus actual production now.  It was the wrong pick, and I would argue Sauce would have been a better choice as well.

Amen. Walker has proven himself to be a good 3rd round pick. #1? Not good at all. #1 when we could have had Hutchinson? Disastrous pick.

He is third round talent that ended up being the very first pick in the draft. Baalke could have picked ANYONE and that dork chose Travon…It was a waste of a first round pick…

Thankfully Travon isn't terrible. I'd be happy with him the way he plays against the run if he was a 2nd rounder.

I know everyone is annoyed with his pick... me included. But it could of been much worse. He could of been another Chassion or Derrick Harvey.

We can only hope he gets better with time and becomes a good player and not just an average one.

I'm not writing Walker off yet. Yes he still has a long way to go. He was always going to need some time to develop but as he has the #1 pick tag on him, it comes with a lot of expectations.

My main issue with Walkers play at the moment was on display a few times against the Saints. Allen is winning his matchup and getting to the QB, but they can escape his pressure as Walker is not winning his matchup. With Allen flushing the QB his way he should have some sacks or if he could get enough rush to keep the QB contained then Allen's numbers would skyrocket.

I think he'll come around. Just more of a project than our staff thought he was.

You can cull through the league historical stat books at the DE position and find plenty of guys who didn't get real sack production until their third year. It's the draft position that rubs everyone raw.

It’s the draft position and the fact even most casual fans knew Hutch was better.

Travon was no doubt the wrong pick at #1, but I think a part of his problem is that we have him playing out of position. He is much better suited as a 3-technique in a 4-3 defense. I think it could make a big difference for him if we could trade for a dominant pass rusher on the end and then move Travon inside to DT.

Meh - we didn't have a full understanding of Caldwell's intended usage of walker or his actual scheme for that matter and there was talk of getting Travon moving around the line by this point in his second year.

It wasn't as simple as "which guy is a better edge rusher right now ?"  Not the way it was being sold from he Jags pundits and eventually the staff.

Of course - none of that stuff has happened.

The only way they are moving him around is via stunts/twists and he hasn't developed the pass rush arsenal his supporters claimed he would acquire over time.

Fingers crossed both of those developments happen even if they are happening late at this point

No, it was which player will be the better football player and better pass rusher and the consensus was Hutch.  You can move Hutch around and drop him into coverage just like they want to move Walker around.

Pretty much how I feel

He's not a player that has no place in the league, he just had no business being selected number one overall.

Sunk cost. Doesn’t matter where we drafted him. He’s a contributor and I’d like to see him improve obviously. He’s a decent player on a pretty good defense.

Kinda Reminds me of Dante Fowler. We drafted him 3rd overall. He was very rough his first couple of years but wound up being a solid player. He never was worthy of the pick. I kinda see the same thing in Walker. He may develop into a solid player but never will be worthy of the pick. A bust is almost a lock for 1st overall. He is starter worthy so not a total loss just not that difference maker we needed.

He plays hard. He will figure it out. It would be nice if they could help him with the scheme more.

I kind of feel about Travon the same way I felt about Trevor after a week 7 of his second second season.  Here's hoping it turns out the same way.

I wish I could say the same.Trevor was a great college quarterback who basically had his rookie season wasted due to terrible coaching and having to deal with a horrible team culture. Walker was a good college player who was drafted first overall due to Baalke's falling in love with his potential following his almost perfect 9.99 RAS score. Walker will likely become a good defensive lineman in the NFL, but he was a very bad pick- especially when Hutchinson and Sauce could have been selected instead.
