Watching the NFL Network replay of the game right now. Fortner has got to go. Draft or free agency, whatever. As many of you have been saying for 2 years now, hes a huge liability and is going to get Trevor hurt even more if he isnt replaced soon.

I know the players have an execution issue. And Fortner just doesn’t have what it takes to be a good center. But with as many combinations as we’ve thrown at this problem this year, it seems scheme and coaching are the real culprits here.

The O-Line has been suspect even back in 2022...  It's funny that Walker Little is one of the highest graded O-Linement, when he basically tore up Trevor's ankle...

But grading is grading.  

The fact is the fact, though.

Our O-Line last year also was suspect.  Does nobody remember the Detroit game where Lawrence nearly tore his ankle???

Doug said that Little’s injury occurred earlier in the game. He was playing hurt and thus overpowered on the play. He’s not an All Pro. But he’s plenty good. We need to not over-react.

Of course we do, and to think this batch was significanly worse than that at the beginning of this year. Aside from the play where he got hurt the line did a really good job of protecting Trevor yesterday. It was just a freak accident that he got rolled up on the way he did.

Respect the game.  Play with a sense of urgency. 


1.)  Take care of the ball.  Win the turnover battle.

2.)  It's all about 3rd down.  Win on 3rd down to win the game.

3.) Playmakers make plays.  The only reason that you put your uniform on is to make plays. In order to EARN your paycheck, you must make plays.  

Learn from the great collapse of 2023.

Fortner is no guard lol.  He isn't a starting quality lineman.  His best season in college was at center. Moving him to guard isn't automatically going to make him stronger or a better player.  Fortner should be a backup center in a pinch.

No, because it was a toe injury that at first glance had everyone fearfult that it was a knee. I'll admit I did a lot of crazy [BLEEP] in college, but my memory isn't that bad (that I know of).

Fortner was a four year starter at Guard with Kentucky, he was a fifth year player due to Covid and played his final year there at Center for Kentucky. I think, while he's clearly not the strongest guy out there, you at least move him to a position that he has more experience with and you try to salvage a 3rd RD investment. 

I think Scherff is here in 2024 anyway. So, it's not like I am saying we plug him in at RG next year and immediately cut our losses with Scherff. It's a full year of him being a back-up at a less mentally demanding position. 

I don't think he can physically handle having his head down, keeping up with assignments, calling out assignments, snapping the football and then proceeding to get up, gain leverage and push a defender forwards for the running game or get back quick enough in pass protection. 

Playing him at right guard might be better. It at least removes some of the mental aspects out of the game and he can just focus more on engaging, blocking and driving his man into the ground or stonewalling him.

I would prefer a veteran that's still relatively young and a more proven commodity Vs. taking another chance on a rookie immediately out the gate. There's some good opportunities to upgrade in free agency. I still think you can draft a guy that can play G/C though. 

It's going to get interesting in the off season. I almost wonder if that injury to Lawrence has Khan and Khan Jr's heads turning with the wheels spinning. If you're not waking up every morning or going to bed every night with the thought of "How can I protect my most prized possession as a football owner in Lawrence?".

You're failing him, and, most importantly, you're failing your fans and franchise. Don't end up like Jim Irsay. Don't end up like Mike Brown. Having a Golden Child at the QB position is RARE, it's extremely rare that teams get that lucky these days with the number one overall selection. 

Nobody's going to get mad at this team for investing in offensive lineman early and often or more frequently via free agency now on a yearly basis. Do you think the Chiefs and Chiefs Kingdom are pissed off that Taylor is not working out all that great for them at LT/RT? Absolutely. 

But, hey, they TRIED. Nobody can say they didn't try. You've now had our fanbase questioning whether or not they've been trying to do the same for our QB two years in a row. They're not trying hard enough. It showed on the field last year. 

It's showing now this year. You have alllllllllll this talent and allllllllll this money tied up in skill positions and it's not being maximized to it's fullest potential because you whiffed and failed miserably in evaluating the big five on offense and the core four on defense. 

And the best teams in this business have what? The best teams in this business wheel and deal and move up and down the draft boards for what? Big five players on the offensive line and core four quality players on the defensive line. We didn't even get HALF of it right. It's frustrating.

I thought the jumbo sets worked pretty well when passing/play action out of it
just need to be able to run effectively out of it so play action can be more explosive
Not sure if they continue with Little injury though

I agree with most of the comments on this. Fortner needs to be replaced at center and become backup at center and guard. Cleveland should be re-signed. I’m not so so sure about Scherff, however. He is a leader on the line, but he is very expensive for someone who is injured too often and over 30. That will be a tough call. It would be ideal to get a good free agent center, but they will need to pay Trevor, Allen and Ridley. The draft must be successful in finding 2 interior linemen. Cooper Hodges is still a wildcard who could surprise. Tackles are good enough with Little and Harrison.

Guards typically face more one on one blocking assignments so strength is more of a requirement.
