Trevor Lawrence: Franchise QB (TL Discussion, Merged Threads)

There’s no denying he’s had a bad season this year but I’m far from giving up on him becoming a game changer. He has all of the tools to be great and has time to adjust his game to how the league has adjusted to him.

Peyton Manning had a terrible rookie year, 2 good years and then year 4 hit and the Colts went 6-10 while Peyton had 26 TDs and 23 interceptions. The Colts didn’t give up on their young QB and I think it would be foolish for the Jags if they did.

As far as Bortles being a better QB, all you need to do is refer to this video for a wonderful trip down memory lane:

https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=elaue-fQg2...NrIHNpeGVz

Bortles wasn’t terrible except when he was. He had games where he looked like a perennial pro bowler. His problems were horrible inconsistency and at times comically bad accuracy. His worst was really bad and his best was occasionally spectacular.

It’s difficult to compare the two other than a remarkable inconsistency. Trevor’s three years in now. He should have put his terrible, multi-turnover games behind him for the most part but we haven’t. He’s been so bad in that respect, that it’s being discussed in terms of historical perspective. This isn’t just about a putrid OL or receivers running bad routes. This has become a part of the evaluation of the player.

The progressions, in field reads, and complexity of the offense when Bortles was under center is night and day different compared to what DP expects. When healthy, the WR/TE currently are also much better though too.

People criticising Trevor's recent performances, put into perspective the injuries he's dealing with, missing Kirk and Zay, Etienne with 12 yds rushing tonight, D giving up scores on nearly every possession. Yes he's forcing it but at least he's trying to help us win.

Have a good Christmas all. I haven't the energy to listen to the usual Trevor haters gloating nonsense.

Yup.

Etienne with 12 yards rushing. Allen with 1 whole tackle. McManus can’t make a FG to save his life. Press ain’t got bars.

Not a hater, just refuse to lie to myself. He's been bad long before injuries were an issue, but oh wait it's urban/wrs/oline/football gods/#becausejaguars fault. I forgot.

Trevor and the Jags need to part ways.  Should be a win/win as I think both sides will benefit from moving in different directions.

Considering they play each other it's a literal impossibility.

You can tell from the posts on here that the stench from this teams struggles are being placed at his feet.   Not really fair considering the team has no true WR1 and has a turnstile OL.  Team has no running game, the defense is inconsistent, and the kicker keeps missing.    Time to move on.

Whether you like it or not, Trevor is this Franchise.

If they run him out of town, it's over for the Jaguars as a whole. There will be no point in supporting this team going forward if that happens.

One bad season and it’s time to trade him? [BLEEP] off with that noise. I don’t give a [BLEEP] what some clueless fans think or say about him, he’s our QB. If we did get rid of him and he ends up winning a Super Bowl somewhere else, that would be a blunder the franchise would never recover from. The offseason will be here soon and there’s no way there won’t be significant changes to roster and staff to get this thing turned around next season.

Yeas he is the franchise but he has to play better regardless.  We ain't going to run him out of town lol  We have a ton of issues right now.  He hasn't played good since the ankle injury.

Of course he has to play better, but Football is the ultimate team sport.

He's currently playing behind the worst OL in the NFL. The worst Run game in the NFL. Missing his best WR and has a Defense that can't stop a nose bleed. Even when they put up 31 points on Offense, we still lose.

The team around him is absolute garbage right now, which is why he has to play absolutely perfect every single week or we're screwed. Any mistakes Trevor makes per week is magnified because nobody else on this team is able to make a play.

There's not a QB, or player on this planet who is mistake free. The problem is this team as a whole has been so bad lately that they simply can't overcome a single mistake. Whether it's a missed FG, an INT, a fumble, or a pre-snap penalty etc etc. Doesn't matter what it is, the wheels seem to always fall off after the first mistake lately.

Absolutely, there is a [BLEEP] ton of problems right now.  He doesn't have to play perfect.  He just needs to quit turning the ball over.  Turning the ball over at the rate he has has been killing the team.  He hasn't been good at all these last 4 weeks, neither has the defense, neither has the oline, and neither has the WRs.  Not to mention we are getting out schemed and out coached every week.  The whole team has been [BLEEP] and that starts with the head coach.    We have more talent on this team than what we have put on the field the last month even though we need more.  On to the Panthers.

This.

I don't think we should move on from him, but I definitely don't want to give him top money yet this offseason and I 100% think we need to figure out how to get him to stop being so [BLEEP] careless with the ball.

The INTs are absolutely because he's forced to play hero ball. Dude has to try and carry this helpless team on his back every single week.

As for the Fumbles, they're definitely a problem. He needs to work on his grip strength during the off season. Time to add that into the weekly weight lifting routine.

I actually agree with you.   He will go somewhere else and probably contend for a SB.  If he stays here, he will continue to get beat up and labeled a bust.
