Josh Allen - Deal or No Deal (Done Deal!)
|
We finally have him turning the corner, he's still young and has plenty of football left in him. Also, Walker is now hitting his stride and finding himself as a pass rusher nearing double digit sacks in year two. This is a prime opportunity to solidify your edge rushing situation for years to come.
If you have to release Cam Robinson and let Calvin Ridley walk in the off season to get it done? You get it done. This team can ill afford to let anybody worth a damn go. Allen and Walker as a tandem are leading the AFC South in pressures. You know what would make them even better going into 2024 later on this year? A healthy Hamilton, a healthy Smoot and some new rookies and new blood in the middle. I am at that point on my end. I think the first four to five draft picks have to be dedicated towards bolstering the offensive and defensive lines and I think you try and find another receiver or two to start or develop going into training camp. ![]() "What do I know of cultured ways, the gilt, the craft and the lie? Lol at some of these posts. You simply don't play hardball with the best Pass Rusher (and one of the top in the league) your franchise has ever had.
The Jags [BLEEP] around and found out by not paying Allen last year. I've been pounding the table for them to re-sign him for the last two years and they didn't. Now they have to pony up a top dollar deal because of it.
I think he gets a 4 year, 24.75 mil year deal. That would make him th 5th highest paid pass rusher

Shooting for a six year deal at his age, which is probably the safest bet, and the deal would go up to $27M. ![]() "What do I know of cultured ways, the gilt, the craft and the lie? I would pay him 2 years and the rest has to be earned through play. Maybe guarantee some if it for injury with a signing bonus but need an out after 2 years if he doesn't keep it up. He won't take a deal like that. If we don't pay him, someone else will.

None of Bosa, Watt, Crosby, Garrett got a 6 year deal. I think it will be a 4 or 5 year deal at most.
He deserves at least $20M guaranteed per year. Put some incentives and voidables on top of that.
My fellow southpaw Mark Brunell will probably always be my favorite Jaguar.

Puts him right there with Joey Bosa, which he's been better than in my opinion for the last few years. Crosby and Hendrickson are better than Bosa as well. Not sure where those guys are at market value wise but I would imagine they're about due for a new contract. ![]() "What do I know of cultured ways, the gilt, the craft and the lie? That's not Josh Allen's problem nor his agent's or any other ascending player in that particular field of play. The market is what it is. That gives him more of an argument to ask for more money if anything. Joey Bosa is overpaid, and the rest of the teams have to pay for that mistake thanks to the Spanos family. ![]() "What do I know of cultured ways, the gilt, the craft and the lie? Really, really good free agents at premium positions get paid a lot. Quarterbacks get paid the most. Every year the amounts these players get will be more than the players got the previous year. If a team doesn't want to pay their really, really good premium free agent or quarterback what he wants then another team certainly will. “An empty vessel makes the loudest sound, so they that have the least wit are the greatest babblers.”. - Plato

I think they look at a guy like Montez Sweats who recently got an extension and has had a similar career and will try to beat that contract. Right around 25 mil a year. That would be 2nd All time in guaranteed money only behind Nick Bosa who just won NFL defensive player of the year. As much as i want to sign Allen to an extension id just tag him if he is asking for that. We can still keep him for a couple more years with the tag if need be. As much as i want to resign Allen im not making him the first or 2nd highest paid defensive player of All time. He hasnt been consistent enough at an All Pro level. These guys that set these records have multiple All Pros and Defensive Player of the Year awards. Just tag him and see if he can have another All Pro type year (01-02-2024, 06:44 PM).flgatorsandjags Wrote:(01-02-2024, 06:12 PM)Predator Wrote: I'm guessing Allen will command over $100 million in guaranteed money. That will be the market for an elite young pass rusher. Allen is 26 and just entering his prime years. The NFL is all about what have you done lately when it comes to contract negotiations, and he has been dominate at every aspect of his position this season. There are already a few that have gotten around 100 mil guaranteed. Contracts get bigger every year so there is little doubt he will be one of the highest paid edge rushers in the league.

He won't get that, he needs to have more elite seasons to get that money. Oh he will be one of the highest, but i doubt we give him Nick Bosa or TJ Watt money. They will tag him if he wants to be the highest paid defensive player in history. He needs more All Pro type seasons to get that type contract, one season on a contract year isn't enough even though I'd like to extend him.
