My opinion is no you don't give him any deal at all, you have him for 5 years there's no reason to give him a deal at the start of his 4th year. If he wanted a deal he should've played well enough to deserve the deal. At this point if next season plays out like this season, Shad needs to fire Baalke, Doug and Trevor. I am not saying all of the issues are on Trevor, he'll just off the top of my head I can think of 2 picks that were 100% not his fault. However he needs to go to antifumble camp cuz some of his fumbles are plain stupid. Pay Allen and if Trevor wants to be paid he better play better next season. The only way I'm giving Trevor a deal is if it's reflective of his position in the league, around 15th. If I was Shad I would pay him as the 20th best QB in the league if he doesn't take it well you still have him under contract for two more years.

I must have seen the ranking before they updated the later games.

He ended up 3rd.

Trevor hasn't shown he is worth a mega deal yet. He flashes as an elite QB, but has far too many bad games and bad decisions mixed in to consider giving him an elite contract.

I think Trevor and the Jags would feel far more comfortable negotiating a long term deal after next season.

We should be more concerned with negotiating a long term deal with Allen this off season and structuring it in a way that gives us more cap space the following off season to potentially work out a mega deal with Trevor.

Allen had 0.5 better completion% and 200 more yards behind a much better line and better receivers. Trevor does not need to sign any new deal.  He should explore FA when that time comes.  It will also give the Jags time to see if they can fix the OL issues in the meantime.

Trevor is worth retaining, for the right price. He isn't some super scrub, he is a good NFL QB. I am 100% fine with waiting until the end of year 5 to give him a deal. You're gonna break the bank for the guy anyway, if he's going to be 15% of your cap, you better know he is the franchise. At this point, he hasn't proven to deserve top of the market yet but I'm sure we would all be super elated with a top 10 QB for the next 10 years. He just needs to get there first.

Lawrence has all the leverage regardless. They either pony up and pay him whatever he wants, or this Franchise goes back into the dumpster. Those are the options.

Ramsey had a lot of leverage. He was considered an elite player at the time and was a first team All-Pro player.

He had a lot of value when he was forcing his way out.

This is a fair distinction. Just because Lawrence possibly isn't a "generational talent" doesn't mean he can't be a top 10 QB in his career or win a Super Bowl. He needs to be more consistent and the team has to realize he's not going to be able to do it all on his own and adjust their plan.

Yep, then you'll pay him more the next year or the year after that. You're going to pay market rate for a top QB in whatever year you sign him. You're not going to lowball him.
