It would open up shorter down situations and something that we all know Lawrence can REALLY thrive off of and that's the play action game. Virtually every time this kid gets a very limited opportunity to work off a successfully blocked play action design he has big play ability downfield.

It was completely suffocated out of the play book last year. Etienne is also too good of a player to be limited to just a pair of 100 yard rushing games on the year. That was a somber statistic as well in and of itself.

ETN needs to take a lesson from little bro Trevor and start bouncing his runs outside when there is no hole to go thru. He thinks he's Mike Alstott/Eddie George/Larry Czonka when hes actually Chris Johnson/Mercury Morris.  Running up the backs of your O line is never a formula for success.
And why do you think he was “running up the backs” of our Oline? Could it possibly be because our Oline was soft and got pushed back all the time?

He's shown the ability to break outside when theres no hole available, but rarely. His bro seemed to do it with regularity behind what is probably a worse o line at the college level than the Jags have at the pro level. Of course, he ll have more holes to actually run thru behind the UGA line in 2024.

interesting look.  One thing to remember is next year is the final year of ETN's rookie deal. YeaI know we can extend him into 5. Just something not to forget about.

And in other news,,,,

Absolutely maddening.

Kills me that they went into 2023 with that OL and felt OK about it.

Agreed. We'll see if they possess any redeeming qualities over the next few months I hope. Next Thursday and Sunday are the days to watch as a fanbase. Thursday is when the defensive lineman will run and test at the combine and then Sunday is closed out by the offensive lineman.

Looking for big guys that can move. Not undersized guys that can move.

What's even funnier is the stupid "31st" T-shirts they wore, made it even more embarrassing.

Golden, its even funnier that they finished as the 31st ranked oline. The ones that came out with the rankings before the season started nailed it lol

I missed this the other day but Brian Allen was released by the Rams a couple days ago. He has had some injuries the last few years but a very good center when healthy. At the very least we should sign a guy like Allen and then draft a center. This is one of the best years to need a center between FA and the draft. I know Doug and Baalke have talked about feeling good with Fortner at center but hopefully it's all smoke. If we don't get a starting caliber center in FA or the draft Baalke should be fired on the spot. Even if Doug says he likes Fortner at center this should be the one time Baalke trumps Doug and gets a center any way

The Seahawks, Steelers, Rams, and Eagles all need a center. Eagles have Jurgens who they could move to center where he played in college but I wouldn't count on it if they really like JPJ. Denver, Dallas, and Raiders are a few other teams that could go center. If we don't get a C in FA or take JPJ in the first if he's there, I don't think Frazier makes it to our 2nd round pick. A lot of teams need a center as deep as FA and the draft is

So i know JPJ is getting tons of love from everywhere, and the Jags basically now would have to draft him in first as trading back and snagging him is no longer on the table.

But are teams/pundits viewing him as being an expected All-Pro caliber guy? Or just like a no doubt above average starter at C?

As much as the Jags needs a good Center, I still worry that a mid level 1st round pick for the latter is not great value.

I think the answer to your question will be provided between this Sunday coming up at the combine and then his pro-day at Oregon if he decides to test there again. He's going to have to test off the charts and come out of there with a really good looking RAS in my opinion.

He looks great on film from what I have seen. Great combination of attacking the defender instead of reacting to the defender, he has the ability to pop his first man, and quickly get out and get downfield to get after the next man on his assignment or in the way.

We need to see that match the film with the testing. Does his bench match up with his power on film? Does his quickness match up with the footwork drills and shuttles, etc. If he scores, I would say, something like an 8.4 RAS or higher? He's probably a safe bet. One of the safer bets in this draft.

I don't think he's as good as Tyler Linderbaum was coming out of Iowa but he's maybe just a slight shade of him and that's not a bad statement for him. When you're seeing him mocked in the first round though? He's at the minimum expected to be a well above average starter at the next level.

I am also with you on the value there. It's just rare that you see a Center go that high and for me, I am at the point to where I would rather them sign a more proven veteran in March Vs. risking to wait until April to maybe get an upgrade. I think our first round pick is really going to end up on the defensive side of the football.

I keep thinking it's CB, EDGE or DT there because it feels like that's how it will fall by the time we're on the clock. Which is fine. PROVIDED, they patch up our holes in March of course.

After listening to Doug and Baalkie today I am expecting the following if they can accomplish it. Whether this is a smoke screen I do not know. Maybe I hope it is...

1. Cam is extended. (LT)
2. Ezra is back (LG)
3. We get another year out of our current center with a vet backup signed ©
4 Sheriff is back somehow (RG)
5. Anton (RT)
6 Little as swing tackle,

I'm so confused. How does that solve anything? It is just putting the team in neutral?

Not worth trying to figure out until we see what they do in FA and draft.

They aren't going to tell us they don't like the OL and intend to acquire two new pieces to fix it even if they intend to.
We have to wait to see what they actually do (or not)

That said - Cam at LT and Anton at RT seems very plausible as things stand. As does EC at LG.
What competition is added to the guard and center positions will be the larger lynchpin to the success of the line and tell us how the regime really feels about the line.
