Josh Allen - Deal or No Deal (Done Deal!)

(03-05-2024, 10:55 PM)JagFan81 Wrote: Disappointing we had to tag Josh as the FO had all season to know they had to pay him big time after the year he had. Hopefully this can be like Engram and get a long term deal sorted but was hoping to see the FO have a plan for this offseason and to be ready to execute it.

You don't know what the plan is, other than it doesn't match your plan. That's what all this bellyaching is about - We (okay, some of we) all think we can do it better, but what if we threw 4/120 at him and his agent is the one wanting to wait until tag or other guys get an offer to compare?

Would you prefer we throw every dime we got at one guy, thereby guaranteeing the offer is too sweet for them to dawdle?

We ain't gon dies. We are okay.

Yea, it was disappointing but inevitable.  That is now the process for high level players. A team has only one tag making it a scarce commodity. Using it on the player is akin to giving your girl in junior high an ID bracelet. (yea I dated myself there) The players agent can show he is working hard for the player and earning his money. The team can show they are getting the best deal they can for the team. This will take some time as time just reinforces the effort by both sides.  This will resolve in ...

Well we will see when FA starts on Monday. Like I said we have no idea how far apart both sides are money wise but the FO knew Josh had the leverage after the year he had. I'm not saying that means make him the #1 paid guy or just throw all the money at him but he had the leverage. I think they'll agree a deal at some point and like you say it may be waiting to see what other players are getting in FA to compare with.

Your right that it was probably going to go this way. We all hoped I think that it could be agreed and not have the whole 'will he play on a tag?' nonsense. We let Ridley walk and that was a situation that had so many different opinions from fans but we don't know what coaches opinions or money talk there was behind the scenes. What to do with Ridley was the most up in the air decision and I'm hoping they let him walk as they felt he wasn't good value or scheme fit rather than messing up Josh so had to tag him which means letting Ridley walk.

I know that's all speculation and I'm not saying I think that's what happened in any way, I just hope that wasn't the reason. If they weren't sold on Ridley that's fine.

I think they'll sort a long term deal like we did with Engram a month or two down the line where he gets paid pretty damn well.

I think they'll bid on him in free agency and Ridley may even give the Jags first right of refusal to match whatever his best offer is.

That best offer is now likely to be 3 for $80 million since all the talent is gone before the market opens. I just don't see this team bring him back and we need to plan for next season without him.

Even without Ridley, I think we still have more talent at wide receiver than many teams, possibly including the Super Bowl champions.
Sucks to watch a good player walk, but this is far from our biggest problem.
My fellow southpaw Mark Brunell will probably always be my favorite Jaguar.

Mike Evans got 2 year 41 mil with incentives where he can earn more. Ridley will likely get around 20- 22 mil a year

Absolutely.  I'd much rather use that money to upgrade our offensive or defensive line.

Ah, I think the initial reporting was $26M per year which must have been max value.

This argument becomes null and void for a variety of reasons, but, I'll give you the most obvious ones.

1. Patrick Mahomes
2. Andy Reid
3. Travis Kelce
4. Their defense in general
5. Taylor Swift

Also, talent is a tricky word with this receiving core. Talent? Maybe. Talent is only good when you can see it though. Didn't see it much at all last year due to injuries and lack of depth.

Zay Jones was nowhere near healthy to be the guy we thought he was from 2022, that was with him playing behind Christian & Marvin though.

Jamaal Agnew is a return specialist, also oft injured, doing his best to be something he's not and that's a receiver. It's just not his forte.

That then leaves you with Tim "Pre Season Jimmy" Jones, Elijah "Can he?" Cooks, and Parker Washington, another guy that had some injury challenges last year.

We really don't have anybody man. The irony? Ridley will probably end up a Chief somehow, enable Rashee Rice to be even better in year two and help those [BLEEP] get to another Superbowl on a 1 - 2 year high end deal.

I agree, it's not our biggest problem, but, it will be the classic moment in a play off game where a guy can't separate enough or haul in a contested pass (See road loss in Kansas City in 2022) that people will harp on if, and that's a BIG IF, if, they manage to get the offensive line retooled just enough to get the ground game going and Lawrence less killed in the pocket.

They have a much better oline and well. Their worst lineman was our best in 2022

Exactly. I like the optimism, but, sorry, until I SEE it, I am keeping myself grounded and very, VERY cautiously optimistic. This team is dangerously close to just being the same team it's been since 2022.

A pretender. A hope franchise. A Mike Tice Vikings era in disguise in black and teal here. I wish we could just wave a wand and turn this [BLEEP] sandwich into a dream come true, but, that's not how it works unfortunately.

Talent reveals itself on the football field. And talent, certainly does not start off 8 and [BLEEP] 3 and proceed to collapse to a 9 and 8 finish. Sorry boys, until they start actually making the right moves on paper? We'll just be sitting here waiting...and waiting...and waiting... and hoping...and wishing...

Yeah, I'll give my opinion on how I think the season will go after FA and the combine.

Agreed.

It's about the QB and who he's comfortable throwing the ball to.
Black Jaguar: Yeah, it's a thing.

It was always the Jags!!!!

At some point the WR's we drafted have to start stepping up.

LOL. Which one? We've drafted the following receivers since 2020.

Colin Johnson - Gone
Laviska Shenault Jr. - Gone
Jalen Camp - Gone
Parker Washington - Drafted last year in RD6

That's it man, that's all they have drafted recently. Everybody else was picked-up via free agency...
