LOL.  I bet you're the type of guy that poo poo's people with an actual education...  Statistics and the concept of how variables interact within a scientific study are 2 separate concepts.  I know because I had to take Statistics 250 twice because I thought it was an easy course and failed it the first time.  And I know about scientific study because I graduated with 36 credits in that discipline.  But I bet you felt really smart when you said what you did.  Good for you.  I tried to break down how some observations may appear to be related, but actually are not.  And what was your reply?

looking at trends is basic analysis.  Correlation is not causation.  But certain posters aren't wise enough to understand this.  So I googled something that would help those slower than us understand.  

Ice Cream Sales are linked with Violent Crimes....  It's been reported that as the rate of ice cream sales increase, the rate of violent crimes also increases ?  So clearly violent crimes and ice cream sales are related!  Of course a wise person understands that there is a 3rd variable.  Warmer weather makes people go out more frequently and interact with each other more.  And that additional variable is the reason why violent crimes happen more in the summer - and why ice cream sales happen more in the summer.  While it appears that ice cream and violence are causal to another, a smart person would understand that certain correlations do not imply that there is any relation as to why either variable occurs.  A mod would say that we should no longer sell ice cream.  A wise person would understand that, while they are correlated, they are not causal.  It's a difficult thing for certain people to understand.

Observing how certain trends are spurious and not connected to overall dynamics is difficult.

A person that looks at RB valuations over the last 4 years and then concludes that RBs are not important is as wise as those who assume if we ban ice cream there will be less violent crime.

ETN is the real deal.  He was a great pick up.  

CMC is the real deal too.  He was worth the trade.

Saquan Barkley was the real deal.  The Giants devalued him, and look at them now. 

There's a reason that our defense focuses on stopping the running game.  But don't tell that to the mods...  Shhh...  A good RB isn't a valued position, just stop selling ice cream...

This is what the dairy board wants you to think. Just keep buying their product and keep doing the crimes. Everything will be ok.

Unfortunately this is the methodology of most teams.  Run them into the ground while patting them on the back during their rookie contract, then cut them clean with new rookies to shoulder the load.

Yup, use the crap out of him for the next 2 years and if he's still very productive, hit him with a franchise tag for one more season and then let him go. He'll then be 28 years old and that's when RBs typically hit their wall and start the decline.

Why is that unfortunate? RBs going into their second contract typically decline in production, it's a simple numbers game for an easily replaced position.

It's unfortunate for the RB player, when compared to their teammates. For all the other positions, getting a second contract is where they see the uncapped BIG money that they can retire on.  For the RB, who has spent 5 years getting tackled by the greatest athletes in the world, it's "Thanks for your efforts, but it's time we move on."  Heck, some RBs are downgraded because they ran to much in college.  I'm not suggesting a change to the market, it is what it is, but I still have some sympathy for the players.

Yeah maybe not this year more so due to the fact that it wouldn't count as a year of his contract if he sat out the entire year if it came to that, so he'd be right back in the same spot next year only a year older.  I could definitely see him sitting out next offseason though and perhaps into the season.  The 5th year option salary on RBs is still relatively peanuts and he could sustain a career ending injury during the season and never even see the tag or the salary that comes with it.  Forfeiting or threatening to forfeit a $6M salary in an effort to get a (practical) 3 year deal with 2+ years guaranteed isn't being stupid if it works and if it leads to $10M+ annual salaries during that time.  It would probably wind up being something less than the tag whatever it is, so the team is getting some type of savings out of the deal and would also allow the team to likely part ways when he's 28 or 29 once his usefulness as an NFL RB is very likely over.

The only player I can think of that sat out a whole year is Bell and that was the worst mistake of his career, he lost a ton and was never the same again. 6 mil for 1 year is good money for a RB.  Even if he did sit out he would still have the 1 year contract left on the Jags, the year doesn't disappear. Justin  Blackmon was on our roster for like 10 years because he didn't finish the contract, the years on the contract don't go away until you play them. 

Etienne isn't going to sit out, I think RBs have learned sitting out doesn't nothing but cost you money in the long run and the time off from sitting out usually hurts their play as well which will cost them money on their next contract. I can think of one RB that sat out that it actually helped them. Sitting our is one of the dumbest things a player can do.
