We're not a true democracy, but this quote is still very relevant. “A democracy cannot exist as a permanent form of government. It can only exist until the voters discover that they can vote themselves largesse from the public treasury. From that moment on, the majority always votes for the candidates promising the most benefits from the public treasury with the result that a democracy always collapses over loose fiscal policy, always followed by a dictatorship. The average age of the world's greatest civilizations has been 200 years. These nations have progressed through this sequence: From bondage to spiritual faith; From spiritual faith to great courage; From courage to liberty; From liberty to abundance; From abundance to selfishness; From selfishness to apathy; From apathy to dependence; From dependence back into bondage.” ― Alexander Fraser Tytler (06-20-2024, 12:19 PM)Jaguarmeister Wrote:(06-20-2024, 12:06 PM)WingerDinger Wrote: Joe Biden to a T.. 1 step forward, 3 steps back. Nowhere is a "true democracy" but yes the quote is roughly correct. (06-20-2024, 12:06 PM)WingerDinger Wrote: Joe Biden to a T.. 1 step forward, 3 steps back. Trump needs to hammer Biden on this. The student loan forgiveness is one of the biggest government blunders since the 2003 Iraq war and a main driver of the inflation we've seen. That said, government blunders aren't always political blunders. Bush won in 2004 despite his blunder.

Rather that debt has been moved to the people that actually pay taxes. There are 10 kinds of people in this world. Those who understand binary and those who don't.

If you voted for this, you need to rethink your life or maybe karma should just pay a visit.. Mother Nature.. Right, Mike?

News constantly has to decide what the "big story" or "big picture" is. Which is a bigger story? The President declaring that hundreds of thousands of people (I'm guessing the number) can now become citizens, or one 13 year old getting raped and killed? The second is obviously a horrible story, but it usually doesn't make national news. I'm not telling you anything you don't already know. These are just things you pretend not to know when it helps you justify your beliefs.

They let in all of those scumbags for votes but they kill and rape some children. They treat it like a cost of doing business or collateral damage.. No big deal, right? Maybe that's why it made national news.
Hi, fellow Jax fans,
I made this account on the old message board just for jags related topics. But I'd like to understand American politics a little bit more. I'm from Central Europe and we have several major problems ourselves but I don' get why neither dems nor reps manage to get an acceptable candidate which voters from the other party at least can consider to vote? If I were US American I'd probably would vote Trump but I don't think he is a good politician or "leader" at all. As an outsider I can't understand why anyone would vote for Biden either. And that is something I don't get... Don't the Dems have any other somehow reasonable candidate? How do they think they could win another selection with him? Again, Trump is not the best candidate either in my opinion and I hope I don't offend anyone (neither Biden nor Trump voters) but at least he has a noticeable effect on global politics, whether intentional or not. I think I know how the selection process for the respective candidate works but I just don't get those two candidates. Again, please don't feel offended, I'm European and I don't have much knowledge about American politics. Have a nice day everyone ![]()
It's simple, Buji (interesting name, btw). American politicians, both right and left, are primarily financed by corporate money, which is why they can afford to compete on the national stage. Since Americans are largely influenced by the corporate media, they accept the candidates that can raise the most money as the best available choices. As long as they feel like their side is "winning" Americans ignore the fact that their representative doesn't actually pass law that benefits them.

Thanks for your answer ![]() Username is a long story and not translatable (is that even an english word?). I get all that and it's not very different here in Austria (thats where I am from btw). Money talks of course but I don't get the stark contrast with your candidates. Can't there be for example a patriotic, war veteran democrat? Or a hard nosed republican with some sort of empathy? Someone whom both sides can identify with at least to some degree. I think you are running into a massive rift and if I'm honest I can somehow understand both sides of voters. But I don't think that either of the candidates is a preferable or even acceptable choice by your standards in my opinion. And I think you deserve better. Again, I don't want to offend anyone. I want to pronounce your name "bougie" like rich city folks fashion (from German burger to French bourgeoisie to American English bougie) but I'm pretty sure you mean to pronounce it boo - yee and mean something else by it.
