Chicago Bears told to 'pay for their own damn stadium' after proposal has taxpayers footing $2 billion

Gov. Pritzker, D-Ill., previously said he's 'not sure' that paying billions for the stadium is one of 'the highest priorities for taxpayers'

Gov. J.B. Pritzker, D-Ill. and financial experts are expressing skepticism at the possibility of taxpayer money being used to pay for the Chicago Bears’ proposed new stadium.
There has been hesitation towards the NFL franchise’s plans to spend $4.6 billion on building a new enclosed stadium along with an improved lakefront area, half of which would be paid by the state’s taxpayers.
"The stadium itself would cost $3.2 billion to build, with another $1.4 billion in proposed infrastructure improvements," the Chicago Tribune reported.

I'd argue for a city with the size and economic impact of Chicago, this makes perfect sense.

The Bears aren't leaving the Chicago area no matter. Maybe they put the stadium in a far suburb but that would still be accessible for the fans even if NYC fans get annoyed at the Meadowlands and DC got annoyed at the location of their stadium. Even that that move probably wouldn't do that much economically for a city like Chicago.

If the other open air stadiums in the south can hack the heat, then Jags fans can. It gets hot in Wisconsin in September as well. At this rate the NFL will just have Lambeau Field and the rest of the league will be playing football in living rooms. Killing the game. We can't allow it.

We've been hacking the heat for 30 years.  Do you go to these games?  They are [BLEEP] HOT.  I'd much rather go to a game in a stadium with a roof on it.  

There aren't many open-air stadiums left in the South.  Miami has a roof.  Atlanta has a roof.  New Orleans has a roof.  So does Houston.  And Dallas.  And Tampa.  

There's a good reason for having a roof that overrides all the nostalgia for mud games and ice bowls.  Besides, with ticket prices being what they are these days, tickets are a lot more attractive if you know in advance the game will not be played in a monsoon, or in 100 degree heat, which we have around here.  I know, football can be very comedic when it's played in a monsoon, but it's not really football in those conditions.

How do SEC teams hack this unbearable weather you claim to have? College football starts in late August. I've been to games at Tiger Stadium(LSU) Bryant-Denny(Bama) and The Swamp(Florida) They do just fine in this unbearable weather you speak of.

This is not the NBA here. Football is meant to be played in the elements.

I guess to each their own, but I think the game is hurt by domes.

Be careful, the translucent roof let's light in. I wouldn't want you getting too hot on sunny days. Just playin' but damn.

I've had both heat stroke and hypothermia and I'll take hypothermia any day over heat stroke. I still can't tolerate the heat like I could before my incident and that happened 13 years ago. Never had after effects of hypo.
