Travis Etienne - Rd1, Pick 25

A lot of wear and injury can happen between today and 2026. Part of the reason why a lot of RB aren't making big bucks is that they are fairly easy to replace. Not saying that Etienne is a commonplace RB, but in two years if we run his legs off or he gets one wrong hit low we may be looking at a much different Etienne then we are today. With his position (not him, necessarily), you wait until the eleventh hour to do the deals. We show less advertisements to registered users. Accounts are free; join today!

The Franchise tag for RBs in 2025 is going to be right at $13 million, if they really want him then just tag him until they don't; it's not cost prohibitive to do so. Of course I'm in the Use 'em and Lose 'em camp anyway, just grab a guy from the back half of the draft or UDFA to replace him. “An empty vessel makes the loudest sound, so they that have the least wit are the greatest babblers.”. - Plato

Teams all over the league are finding quality backs in the 4th round all the way into UDFA pretty regularly these days. ETN is unlikely too be matched by collecting talent from that pool - but you can save lots of money by replacing backs rather than re-signing them. Even if you spend a second round pick on one. As much as I like the player - RB is an unwise place to spend extension money in the current NFL.

I like ETN but RB value is nearly level between guys. It's a plug n play position in the NFL and several guys come into the League every year who can do the job just fine. RBs don't make winning teams and winning teams don't need great RBs, that's the modern NFL. “An empty vessel makes the loudest sound, so they that have the least wit are the greatest babblers.”. - Plato

I agree with the general point, but someone like Christian McCaffrey is an exception. The 49ers offense is built around him being the engine that drives the train. I actually think it's interesting that the Shanahan offense is starting to counter some of passing first offenses/defenses. Using a FB as much as they do is definitely an old-school mentality.

Can we leave the personal insults behind for a while and get back to some semblance of topic, gents? Please, and thank you.
Etienne would be up there if our line in Jacksonville could run block worth a lick.

I'd wager that having an elite RB + the most versatile FB and TE in football isn't a product of his offensive scheme as much as it is just him making the most of the talent he's able to acquire. I'd not be surprised in the slightest if his offense looks completely different in 2028 after a different crop of talent finds its way onto his roster and he adapts his scheme to them. I was looking at some stats a couple days ago, and Etienne has the 4th or 5th most rushing yards and rushing touchdowns over the last 2 seasons (2,133 yards and 16 rushing touchdowns). I wanna say he’s 2nd in receiving yards for RBs behind McCaffrey.

I expect him to be worked like a dog this year in this offense. I would like to see him be utilized more like an Alvin Kamara type, but, we'll see. ![]() "What do I know of cultured ways, the gilt, the craft and the lie? Early on, there were some concerns on the board about Etienne’s durability. Over the last 2 seasons Najee Harris and Travis Etienne are the only 2 RBs in the NFL to play in all 34 games.
Over the last 2 years, Etienne has the 6th most attempts in the NFL, and out of those top 6 he ranks 2nd in ypc with 4.4 behind McCaffrey. Etienne also averages 8.5 per catch, which is also 2nd in the NFL behind McCaffrey.

Yes, he did play every game last year, but that rib injury looked to have impacted his performance for several games. He's a really good player, it's a shame he's got so little help from the guys up front. “An empty vessel makes the loudest sound, so they that have the least wit are the greatest babblers.”. - Plato
