I am not sure the guy (Fortner) makes the 53. Been to 2 padded practices and every time I saw him he was getting his lunch money taken away from him.

That kind of speaks to my point about depth--you still need to find a guy to replace him with.

From the very first padded practice the year he was drafted, I noticed that he was getting shoved into the backfield quite easily.  It was pretty shocking.  He would snap the ball, and a defensive tackle would walk him 5 yards backwards.

That is what I saw. After last year maybe practice squad? He is about 600k dead money if released now. We could hope someone claims him from our practice squad, maybe get a comp pick?  Naw we ain't that lucky.

Hodges has taken snaps at center too before his injury. Thought it was telling

Bigsby and Vontrell Miller have looked good.  DeLugo said Lacy whooped Fortner today in one on ones without surprise lol
Strange and Bigsby both look like very bad picks. Torrence in round 2 and Diaby in round 3 would have been the correct picks. Instead of Diaby, Baalke takes Abdullah from the same school Louisville) who has done nothing.

FWIW - all I hear from every local beat writer and radio guy the past week is that Tank Bigsby is flat out balling in camp and looks like a stud.

Fingers crossed it's more than just camp flash.

My main concern has always been OL and now with guys nicked up, we really have to hope we have 5 healthy starters by September 9th.

Looking forward to seeing in preseason if Hodges is worthy of the hype and whether Javon Foster can handle some guard reps. His college coach swears he can play inside. I expect to see another vet IOL guy added this week for insurance, and probably another flyer taken after other teams make cuts. Just in case our young developing players aren't ready for backup roles.

That stings. Maybe Baalke can work some magic. Fortner should really be getting work in at Guard, to at least offer some versatility for the year if needed.

We really, really need a serviceable backup center, too.

Injuries, especially to the paper-thin IOL. We’re one rolled up ankle or torn ligament from having last year’s face plant season. Then Trevor and ETN start getting hurt.

I get that. It does seem we've had a few injuries all in the last few days but only Dewey's seems to be a long term injury. This feels like players going from healthy and in good shape to football ready. You can't really practice guys hitting you and full pass rush until you hit camp. Oline is a worry after last year and not an area we want to see injuries but we still have some time before week 1 to get them back so I'm trying to stay optimistic.

Preseason injuries are always frustrating but we are far from the only team seeing guys get hurt.

I know. I guess the traveling scribes want players to try things they never have done in games first.

The point is not the severity of the injuries now, but the impact a more serious injury will bring later. These relatively minor injuries clearly reveal that if any of the IOL starters go down, there aren't any good backups to step into the breech. No one said the sky is falling, just merely pointing out that the sky is tenuously propped up at the moment.

The sky ain’t falling just protecting the players. No need whatsoever to risk further injuries that will hold the team back during the regular season.

They keep saying Hamilton is dominating camp. If we had a healthy Hamilton last year I think we would have made the playoffs. If we get 2022 Hamilton this defense is going to be nasty. I also think if Smith lives up to his potential he will be one of the best defenders in this class with All Pro potential

Lloyd is also dominating camp. Lloyd is going to be a problem this year.

Makes sense. Keeps him from being disadvantaged after the snap.
