So, you aren't for bailing out credit card debt but only student loans? Because you can't see past what the government is "responsible " for?

I wasn't for the entire mess that is the student loans scam, but the government chose to nationalize those loans. I don't believe an education should usuriously put people into a lifetime of predatory debt nor do I believe that education should only be for those of means. That doesn't mean I'm for discharging all loans, it simply means we should make the program better for students at the expense of the banks and government. If they haven't nationalized CC debt then it's not the same thing regardless of "directness." Not that complicated.

Those people who paid 25% of the current cost of tuition and had loans at a third of the current interest rate? They got a deal. Amd this stuff is why people think conservatives are terrible people; born on third base and determined to pull the ladder up after them.

Sounds like your beef is with the rising cost of tuition then? How does this fix that exactly? You just wanna punish the tax payers and let colleges keep gouging and the government to keep providing loans to pay for that gouging? Seems counter productive.

What's next? The Fannie and Freddie borrowers who got 7% rates this year will be entitled to the 2.75% I got in 2020? Not really buying the born on 3rd base thing. Adults make their own decisions.

I agree with you SC1 but reducing tuition and clawing money back from these schools that overcharge so much wasn't on the menu this time. 

We elected one party that wants to ignore the problem and another party that wants to print money in a vain effort to make it go away.  The Democrats made their play.  Maybe the Republicans need to propose the measures that will lower tuition and hold fraudulent academic advisors accountable.

I don't want to punish any employer, nor should it be the governments place to do so. I can only speak from personal experience in recognizing and having  worked with people who have mastered a cloud based product like Salesforce, ServiceNow or even a Microsoft based product on their own with zero college experience who run circles around a college grad and have turned themselves into a resource worth $200 an hour on the open market with no degree.

Give me that guy.

How is it "punishing the taxpayers" to not collect interest on education loans? Why must we put college kids in the position to pay loans that end up costing them 3 tines the cost of their actual education? Why do you think this is ok?

Your tax dollars can be paid back without taking 3 times the original amount borrowed from the lendee. The idea that the government should profit off those loans is just another way they confiscate our wealth.

By the time you go to college you should be smart enough to know whether you can afford it or not. If you can't, don't go. If you borrow, make sure your loan is not predatory in nature, if it is that is on you as the adult that signed the papers. Pay back your own damn loan.

Loan forgiveness is taking peoples money who were not able to attend college likely because they could not afford it and paying for others that also couldn't afford it but borrowed to go. That is not right in any world.
