Trying to guage out if the country is going to accept it in the next 4 years. You're overthinking it. They're not dumb. Kamala's team know, for instance, that the main effect of giving $25k to first time home buyers will be to raise the prices of homes. Look at who donates to Kamala and Dems in general. It's folks who own big, overpriced homes and apartments complexes in overpriced cities. Same reason they always get behind minimum wage increases. They know it just makes rent go up. That's the goal.

I know some people don't like facts but Publix had a 49% increase in profit from 2022 to 2023. For the record "Net earnings" are Net profit. This is on their annual statement from their website. "Net earnings for the fiscal year ended Dec. 30, 2023 were $4.3 billion, compared to $2.9 billion in 2022, an increase of 49%." https://corporate.publix.com/newsroom/ne...s-for-2023 Thus, even if their costs are going up, their price is going up by well over their cost increase to be able to recognize a 49% increase in profit. Is it because Publix is "price gouging" or is it because the cost of producing those eggs has gone up? Feed is more expensive, fuel to run the machines that produce the feed or deliver the final product to the grocery store has gotten more expensive, etc. Profits are a very good thing. Some liberals seem to think profits are a dirty word, but without profits, we have no business, and no jobs and no food or anything else. Profits literally are the life blood of a civilized society. Profits lead to growth, growth creates jobs, and a rising standard of living for everyone.

Feed is more expensive, fuel to run the machines that produce the feed or deliver the final product to the grocery store has gotten more expensive, etc. Publix has many competitors. Including new entrants like Kroger delivery and Aldi. Publix's profits will only rise as high as the competition lets them rise. My wife is extremely loyal to Publix. They always have everything she wants and she is always happy with the quality. Maybe it's just conditioning over her two-plus decades of shopping for herself in FL, but the competition is mostly meaningless to her. I don't have that kind of loyalty. But if I go anywhere else, I know I'm sacrificing something in terms of variety, freshness, or crowds and congestion. I will say though, if someone could show that Publix was doing things to prevent competition, like bullying certain suppliers to give other grocery stores inferior terms, that would be illegal and hopefully their competitors would sue.

I totally understand profits and have the benefit taking advantage of rental increases and such (although I limited the impact to existing tenants), so I'm not complaining about the capital system, but I do think there are limits that should be considered so the consumer is not gouged. Personally, the Publix price increases don't impact us because we can easily afford groceries at any cost and have alternatives if we so desire. I can drive to Winn Dixie and Walmart but there are others (especially the aging who don't have modes of alt transportation) that rely on their local store, so they are bound by increases of a certain grocer. Same applies to gas prices. Big oil has no problem recording record profits at the expense of the consumer. Just thankful none of these cost increases really has any detrimental impact on any of us, but that's not a reason to ignore it and place some controls on certain consumer necessities. I do find it ironic that people here were just complaining about grocery prices but when Kamala mentions something, all the sudden increases on groceries don't matter ..... people just call it inflation and complain once again, even though it's evident it's not increasing costs but increasing profits of certain suppliers. Lol .... people complain about costs but not profits ... "isn't it ironic".

The Publix price increases don't impact anyone who chooses not to pay them. Publix caters to a clientele who don't mind paying more for better quality and better stores. They're gouging no one. There are more affordable options available to shoppers, who are still paying higher prices at those outlets because of inflation. Do you really want a political class to determine price points based on social criteria? I get it, you're trying to be equitable, but it's a direct path to ceding control to bureaucrats.

Prices are a product of supply and demand. The best way to control prices is to increase supply. Price controls lead to shortages, because if someone cannot make a profit selling a particular thing, they will not want to bother producing or selling that thing. That's why price controls are very bad policy.
