The 2024 season is upon us and fall is on the way. The Jaguars will be looking for their 199th regular season win and they have an all-time record of 5-5 against the Dolphins. 

That Jaguars secondary will be put to the test right outta the gate with Tyreek Hill and Jalen Waddle. Both receivers went over 1,000 yards in 2023. Get to the QB, and try your best to keep Hill from getting behind the defense. Dude can go 90+ yards at any moment in the game. 

Jalen Waddle will likely be working the underneath stuff with crossers and floods and it’s tough to run man vs man with motion and floods etc.

The Jaguars needs Hines-Allen to come out strong in week 1, like he did last season when he finished with 3 sacks. This should be a big season for Travon Walker and a healthy Devon Hamilton with a huge upgrade in Arik Armstead. We need all hands on deck against that Miami passing attack.

Gotta find a way to create some turnovers, and give that offense some nice field position and turn them into points. Trevor Lawrence seems to have a good connection with Brian Thomas, and I’m hoping he gives Jalen Ramsey all kinds of fits.

I have all the confidence in the world with Cam Little if the game comes down to a field goal. 

On offense, protect the football at all cost. Etienne can get loose and hurt that Miami defense.

Last year, Dolphins were tied for 1st in total TDs on offense with 61. Tied for 4th in sacks allowed with a rotating OL. Ranked 2nd in red zone efficiency. And averaged 401 yards per game which was 1st in the league.

This will be a fine first test to start the season. And with it being the first game of the season, it could go in any direction.

Can't wait for the season to officially start.

Tua looks for the deep ball and quick stuff. Have to mix the looks up. The running game is criminally underrated between Mostert and Achane as well.

The moment you give up the running game to them is the moment they get you with Hill. The game at that point can easily get out of hand.

Offensively on our end. Need to shake the curses off from last year. Running game needs to make it's presence known. Lawrence needs to dot it up early. Davis, Kirk & Engram need to be involved early.

On Defense maybe the old Belicheck maneuver? Place Our #1 DB on Waddle and our #2 with a safety over the top on Hill? Jam Hill at the line to try to change timing routes. Can't do that with Hill unless the safety is protecting deep. They let him free release he will cook us.

I have been so stoked for this game for the past 2 weeks. I grew up ‘fin fan. When the Jags came into existence I was torn but felt obligated to purchase season tickets for the good of Jacksonville. I had split loyalty for the first few years until Shula retired but decided I would pull for Miami as long as Marino was the QB or they played the Jags. Needless to say Marino was retired by the Jags in 1999 and I have never looked back.

I think everyone is thinking it but we have heard about our great d line depth and seen flashes of Travon Walkers progress this preseason. But that was the preseason and this is the real thing, we must collapse the pocket, disrupt rythm, and make Tua uncomfortable. If he sits back with a clean pocket and has time we will be cooked assuming both waddle and hill are healthy as both are listed as questionable. I’m assuming both will play though and Johnu Smith and the backs along with those two will eat us alive if our front seven doesn’t create pressure and our secondary can’t mix up it’s looks and force Tua to hold onto the ball for just a little bit longer than he usually does. 

If you read what a lot of dolphin fans have been posting on their site they are not very confident in two things .

Their interrior o line and their depth on the d line.

Isaiah Wynn and Bradley Chubb are both confirmed out against us and they have not been estatic with the chop Robinson’s stoutness against the run. 

Tua is not a big QB nor is he wildly mobile.. so I am saying that interrior pressure in his face and making him move from a clean pocket consistently wins us this game if we can do it.

And if their front seven on d is a weakness for them our o line better prove it has made the necessary progress for them because if not it will be a major concern for the first part of this season. 

Oh yea and Trevor please don’t give that offense momentum and short fields with turnovers or squandered red zone opportunities.

Nice write up. Miami is a high-powered offense with numbers to back it up.

Yes sir Caldrac, we need that running game to have a presence so it can set up 3rd and short situations. I wouldn’t mind if Press reaches in his bag with a trick play, but in the right moment. None of that cute stuff on 3rd and 2. 

I’m hoping Etienne goes for a buck 25 and 2 tubs. I like Tank down there on the goal line, and Thomas’ 4.3 speed can take the top off which should help out that running game.

1. Everyone is talking about disrupting the pocket. But Tua had the lowest average pocket time (2.1 seconds) last year. I don't care who you are on the edge, you aren't getting there in 2 seconds. If they get pressure, it will have to be interior pressure. That is part of what hurt them to end 2023.

2. As the year progressed, teams stopped being "afraid" and giving up the initial space. They tried to jam/disrupt the timing more of Tyreek and Waddle even after the motions. A lot of teams like Chiefs and Vikings would mix in a lot of press bail on top of that forcing the Dolphins to check into running plays. I would expect McDaniels to have a counter by now, but something similar with also expecting some counters will be key.

3. Those DB's will also be very important for contain on running plays. I would expect some wrinkles to mess with Jags given it is game 1, but they cannot be beat the 2nd time they see it, and they have to tackle cleanly to limit the damage of getting beat. Their run blocking uses a lot of a form of ZBS that hopefully the Jags can recognize and disrupt.

4. Protect the ball!!! Phins defense has huge question marks all over with unproven DC, their star edge players coming back from major injuries, a new scheme shift, and basically relying on Sacks/TO's last year despite giving up a tons of TD's and being bad on 3rd down and in Red Zone. If the Jags can protect the ball and do what we expect they can do, they should be able to score on the Dolphins.

Respect the game.  Play with a sense of urgency. 


1.)  Take care of the ball.  Win the turnover battle.

2.)  It's all about 3rd down.  Win on 3rd down to win the game.

3.) Playmakers make plays.  The only reason that you put your uniform on is to make plays. In order to EARN your paycheck, you must make plays.  

Learn from the great collapse of 2023.  

The Fins are typically very good in September (7-1 under McDaniel). Defenses also typically don’t do very well the first time they face a McDaniels offense because of the speed and motion on every play.

I think it’ll be a high scoring game because the Fins defense won’t be very good this year. No pass rushers. Wilkins gone. Secondary can be suspect.

Hoping the Jags shock them and pull out the win but I’m nervous about all that speed in Miami.

Yeah - I don't have much confidence that a defense with a sprinkling of new faces + an untested and freshly installed scheme will be ready for the phins offensive subterfuge and speed.

I think Nielsen and the squad he's inherited and augmented will come together fine by October. I just can't feel good about that happening in week one vs a prolific scoring offense.

Jags may need a 31-27 type of score to win this one unless I'm totally wrong about the readiness of the Jags D.
Hoping like hell to be wrong.

Would really like to see the Jags play without unforced errors and protect Trevor to start the season at the very least.

As it against any high powered offense, keep them off the field as much as possible by playing ball control football. Take advantage of your scoring opportunities. FGs won’t get it done. I like to think we’ll get this one with our defensive upgrades but I dunno. This early schedule is pretty brutal.
