If you plugged in the backup for Purdy the results would not be as good and you know this. It also helps a QB like Purdy to go to a team that's already successful as well, the 49rs haven't been anywhere near the dumpster fire the Jags were when Lawrence got here. Purdy would've been out of the League by now if he had come here instead of Lawrence. Purdy and Tom Brady are generational outliers in where they were drafted compared to their success, literally 22 years between the two with no one else like them in between. That's why your ignorance of statistics mars your analysis, you focus on outliers as if they are common when the evidence of history shows they are extremely rare. Just look at their 1st SB run. He had 115 passing yards and no TDs against the Steelers and then in the SB, he had 145 yards and 1 TD. In his first 10 playoff games, He had under 150 passing yards 3 times. He had under 250 passing yards 8 times. The defense held their opponents to under 20 points 7 times. We show less advertisements to registered users. Accounts are free; join today!

Plus some luck with the tuck rule, and, some pretty shady practices of cheating with spy gate.Early Tom Brady wasn't good. But he still gets those wins and rings counted for him. I also think that this shift for RBs is a phenomenon that happened since then. The RBs of 2005 were still centerpieces to the offense, the decline started more recently that that. “An empty vessel makes the loudest sound, so they that have the least wit are the greatest babblers.”. - Plato
ETN isn't getting a second contract. And that's just fine with me. I was a big fan of his. But he's not a game changed RB. It is what it is. Tank played so good that I think it's pretty obvious we'll be moving on from him. Hopefully this motivates ETN to really become great. But at this point, I'd rather have Tank running and let ETN come in as a back up.
Was the pick a mistake. Yes, you have to admit we shouldn't have taken ETN in the first.

Changing position based on a small sample outcome is a questionable tactic.
I said a few weeks ago that ETN is here on a tag if they want him after next season. The cost of the one year is less than a multi year deal. Rinse and repeat until he's washed and move on. If Bigsby surpasses him now then fine, if not pick up another guy to fill that role.

We play one game and the world of our running backs turns upside down. First Miami's DL was shorthanded. Second, it was the first game and Miami had issues during the first half. They over pursued, had gap fill errors. Both of these were fixed as the game went on.
We are forgetting that 50 of Tank's yards were on 3 plays where he bounced to a hole that was not designed for the play. That means on the other 9 carries he gains about 3 yards. ET is similar one carry for 11 yards and 10 for about 3 each. I would give our run blocking a "C" at best for the last game, more like a "C-". This line played 35 snaps together during the preseason and now a full game. I am looking for some improvement in this next game. We were very challenged at the point of attack last game, maybe we can improve upon that next. PS. The 49ers o-line showed last night on Monday Night Football if you are doing it right it may not matter very much who is running the ball.

Yea, but we can't say it too much as people seem to forget. In fact take a look at the 90's running plays. There are more than a few similarities.

You tag him 2 years in a row after the 5th year option if he's still playing at a high level. |
