MLB 2024 Season

Tampa Bay doing Tampa Bay stuff and unloading players.  I don’t know how that team is competitive year after year as much as they churn through players.

Been years since I went to an MLB game. Have to go way back to the Veterans Stadium days. Drove to Tampa to catch my gf’s Reds play the Rays. Headed to Miami in Sept together to watch my Phillies!

The game definitely gained popularity with the new pitch clock in place.. Really sped up the game and increased the action..

Also love that the pitchers can only throw over to check the runner on base, twice!! Anything after that and they better tag the runner out or they call a balk..

Really helped the game out, imo..

I’m also a fan of the new rules.

I am a fan of the new rules too! It’s weird, I was watching the playoffs last year and was thinking to myself “what the hell just happened?” lol. Also, since I started back up last offseason, I was wondering why they were cutting away from action in extra innings. Turns out, they put a runner on second. I understand it’s probably to get the game over. But I am not a fan of rhat

I've enjoyed watching baseball this year. Was quite a few years (probably a good 20+) since I was really into it. As a young kid I followed the Reds, mainly because I live in Ohio and my family was a Reds fan. Then I started playing the baseball games and naturally I drew towards the Yanks. Not because of any specific players, but because they were just plain stacked. The homeruns was what excited me the most. As I get older, other aspects of the game have become more appealing (ex: Reds- Elly stealing). Recently the Yanks games feel like they are back to the boring baseball I remember from when I was a kid. Walking Judge near every time he comes up doesn't make me want to watch more. I completely understand why they don't want to pitch to him, but it really kills the games vibe for me.

White Sox are the only team in MLB that is mathematically eliminated, sitting at 31-99.  They’re 43 1/2 games out.  I honestly don’t know if I’ve ever seen that high of a number.

About to head to Miami to catch the Phils. Going to miss the Jags game. Had I given thought about the schedule I would have gotten tickets to go to that game too. Going to suck missing my first Jags game in about a decade while I’m going to be in the city they’re playing. That was a missed opportunity.

Over a month ago I convinced my friend to split a bet with me on the White Sox finishing with the worst 162 game record in history.  If they pull if off, we split $880.

They're sitting on 33-113.  I need them to go 7-9 or worse the rest of the season...which is waaaay better than they've been playing.  One more game against Cleveland tonight, and a three game series against the Padres next week.  Other than that they play crappy teams.  I'll be sweating it out the last three weeks but feeling pretty good about the wager right now.

So to continue the same story line, the Sox are 51 games out.  51.  How is that possible?  I know I’ve never seen anything like that since I’ve been alive.

Shohei Ohtani last night: 6 for 6, 3 HRs, 2 SBs, 10 RBI, 5 extra base hits.  <That might be the greatest single game of all time.

He now has 51 HRs and 51 SBs.  First in Major League history to have 50 HRs and 50 SBs.  And he's an ace pitcher who couldn't pitch this year because of elbow surgery.

He has to be in the conversation for greatest player of all time.

I honestly don’t think it’s close.

I love Brooks Robinson. Barry Bonds was incredible (even before the juice).

But Ohtani is on another planet.

You can’t mean you think Brooks Robinson is even in the conversation for best player ever?

He is great and I love watching him hit.  My only issue with this is that he doesn’t play the field.

Actually not playing the field is a good point.  However, It is interesting Babe Ruth was a good pitcher too.  Ohtani has a long way to go to top Ruth hitting and pitching. Ruth also played the field.  Ruth pitched for 10 years but really only a lot for 5.He finished 94-10, 2.28 era, 17 saves. In 1916 alone he was 23-12, 1.75 era, 9 saves and 170 strike outs. Take a look it should give you an idea of the mountain Ohtani has yet to climb.  Gonna be interesting ... maybe. I will say Ohtani is the best in recent memory.
