Maason Smith healthy scratch last week

You should not even be thinking that a Baalke draft pick is "questionable", we know he's a terrible drafter.

Your thoughts in the last sentence are colored by that nonsense on twitter about Pederson doing it to spite Baalke. The rookie got scratched in favor of two vets. It happens, especially to raw rookies.
That is rare to happen to a 2nd round pick and mid 2nd at that.  Name another 2nd round pick that was Inactive last week due to vets down on the depth chart

1. It's questionable that we took a "developmental" guy 48th overall off a history of injuries.

2. It's odd that he was benched after drawing 2 holding calls that benefited the team just a week earlier on the road.

Both parties are just odd in this situation for me. Kind of feels like an absentee mother and father just punishing their oldest child for no real good reason really other than hating each other that week and taking it out on the kid.

That's the thing though man. That's pure speculation. I have heard three different things now with two of them having ZERO links or valid information to confirm them.

1. It was for behavior or conduct detrimental to the team. This is not backed by anything.

2. It was due to Baalke and Pederson being petty and in a power struggle. This is not backed by anything.

3. It was due to better play during practice by veteran players. This was confirmed by the coaches themselves.

Everything is speculative. However, without reading the tea leaves and taking it at face value?

I think the scouting department and coaching staff BOTH suck for not getting more out of their 48th overall investment from five months ago. THAT's my concern.

Not trying to get into a rabbit hole or conspiracy here. I just see it as a broad failure from all hands involved.

If he is active or not tomorrow night will give us a better answer.  If he is active is was likely behavior related if he is inactive they just feel like he isnt ready which would be looking like a bad pick.

Not getting more out of their investment 2 games in?  lol

By all reports he had a good camp.  He had he highest pass rush win rate by all rookie IDL.

(2) PFF JAX Jaguars on X: "Maason Smith this preseason: 20.8% pass rush win rate Best among all rookie IDL ? https://t.co/fwWMfFiQwm" / X

He also looked good week 1 minus the penalties.  Hes actually looked better than I thought he would up to this point.  Tomorrow if he is active or not will be telling.

Yep, he was a scratch not benched.

When a super explosive rookie is moved off active roster game 2 unexpectedly, to everyone's surprise, and the press questions Nielson in Monday press conference about Maason attitude after the fact, it tells you there is more to the story.

Not this BS semantic crap about being out practiced by vets, lol how pathetic to even suggest this.

Correct.  When you get benched, that means the coach decides not to play you during that week, whereas being a healthy scratch means a coach decides not to play you that week.

Generally "benched" refers to starters who are replaced by backups as you have to off the bench before you can actually be benched. Scratched means you aren't on the roster at all, not even able to come off the bench that week. It's somewhat semantical, but for a rookie who isn't a starter he's likely not going to be "benched" for at least a year.

You've invented quite the assumptive bull [BLEEP] narrative here

They are deep at the position. They opted to deactivate a rookie for a week and now his coach has said he likes how he responded to it.

This could literally just end up being a positive motivation for the rookie. And certainly wouldn't be the first time that series of events took place without some "more to the story" narrative.

meh, we may need to get a few reps from some old vets to keep the bench warm.  Maybe a practice squad guy could get a shot.  Maason got one game, that's all we need to see evidently.  Totally normal is what I hear people saying.

Why do ppl act like this never happens?

I've seen it plenty of times when a rookie just isn't ready, Hell, we did it with Devin Lloyd as a rookie for a number of games and he looks great these days.

Is he playing? The defensive line without him looked worse last week. The Giants sacked the Browns QB 8 times yesterday.

Brandon Scherff is no longer that dude.   Next season I want him gone.

Can you show where people are acting like this has never happend?  In the my actual quote there I quoted it's rare and it is for a 2nd round pick.  Do you have a link where Lloyd was a healthy inactive on game day or are you making that up?  You are likely mistaken when he broke his thumb yet he still played with a cast.  Name the other 2nd round pick that was a healthy inactive last week as well?

Even when Lloyd struggled his rookie year and Muma had the few starts Lloyd was active and got snaps most if not all games.  Show me the link where he was a healthy inactive and show me the 2nd round picks that were healthy inactive last week or are you making [BLEEP] up again?

Here you go:

Should of done your homework. I'll let the article explain to you:

Perhaps most importantly, Orhorhoro's absence isn't because he's doing things wrong behind the scenes at IBM Performance Field in Flowery Branch. Instead, he's the victim of circumstance amongst a talented position group.

"Ruke's done a great job in practice of really potentially have an opportunity to crack the lineup at some point," Morris said. "I'm not sure when that's going to happen. I've been really pleased with his practice habits, I've been really pleased with the way the guy's going about his business.

"He just happens to be surrounded by a bunch of vets right now that are actually really intently doing a good job for us."
