I would be open. He ran a tight ship. Titans rolled us several times under him.

I'd rather find a young OC from an established coaching tree.  But Vrabel always seemed like a good HC that was hand-cuffed by a mediocre QB.  But his specialty is defense.  Who would he bring in to fix Lawrence?  That's the thing about getting a Defensive minded HC.

I'm not there yet with the current staff, but if they don't have us at 4-4 and in position to make a run down the stretch then yeah I'd be ok with Vrabel next year.  I thought he got shafted there as well.  I'm sure he'd get extra up to thump the tacks twice a year too.

Anyway, I believe he's a viable candidate if Doug doesn't pull out of this dive soon. My opinion is Doug is done. He's a coach with a short shelf life who burns out quickly and I think that's what we're seeing here. His behavior resembles depression in some ways. Judgements of that sort are way beyond my purview, but that's the vibe I get.

Do you think Vrabel would allow someone to really run the offense all on his own?  Or do you think he'd influence the offense to be run heavy?

That would be my concern.  A Defense minded HC is going to want to hand-cuff the offense to just manage the game.  That is my concern about all these D-Minded coaches.

Look at what's happening with Caleb.  Caleb is supposed to be the next Prince that was Promised.  And he looks like trash.  I'd just rather find a HC that is going to focus on fixing Lawrence, and then get a GM that isn't a complete jerk store.

This isn't a rebuild kinda thing, in my opinion.  It's just a re-tool situation.  Dump Baalke, dump Pederson and his stooges, and get hungry folks that look at Jacksonville as an opportunity instead of a retirement check.

Vrabel is basically Bill O'Brien. Both got canned for same reasons. If we hire Vrabel we have to give him full front office power. Vrabel being fired in Tennessee was due to him losing track of what his role was over there.  Vrabel got cocky in Tennessee and he felt entitled (from alot of sources that I had read last year) after they traded AJ Brown (awful decision) their GM got fired (it seemed as Vrabel was frustrated that they traded Brown, there was a presser before they traded him of Vrabel saying "Brown will be in this football team as long as I am an HC". From that point on, he felt that the owner should give him full roster control.

Vrabel got six years in Tennessee he pretty much peaked and collapsed due to his horrendeous hiring of his coordinators (especially on offense), and his failure to adapt to modern NFL offense.   


It's why you'll hear "O'Brien is a good coach, just not a good GM" and ignore the years of offensive struggles, backstage politics, and bizarre hiring/firings before that happened. They'll look at the stat line or remember Vrabel's one big playoff run and nothing else.

So no, Vrabel is not a good hire for Lawrence.

The year prior? Should have drafted Tristan Wirfs at RT and Justin Jefferson at WR instead of C.J Henderson at CB and K'Lavon Chaisson at DE/OLB/ST/TWEENER.

This team routinely showcases ineptitude in hiring the right scouting staff, personnel manager and coaching staff. Shouldn't surprise anybody when we see teams in our own division making better strides and leaping us while we stall out and prepare to crash. 

This is what happens when you throw millions of dollars into free agency instead of building through the draft properly. We should all be sick to our stomachs really.

Firing Baalke doesn't fix the root issue. Khan has to hire a team of consultants, just like Josh Harris did for Washington when he bought the team. Khan needs to get himself a VP of Football Operations in place, following by a proper General Manager, and then, from there?

He needs to stay out of it unless they need anything financially or it potentially involves moving on from cornerstone pieces such as Trevor Lawrence and Josh Hines-Allen who just got mammoth contracts a few months ago.

Firing Baalke will go a long way towards addressing the root issue and it needs to be done immediately. This team doesn’t have the time for Khan to find consultants to move forward. He should have done that long ago.

If Khan fires Baalke, it wont be till the end of the season. And we will have to go 6-11 or worse. 6-11 probably gets the coaching staff fired, 8-9 or better, and they all get retained.

Firing people now does no good.
Leave them in place and hire consultants to figure out what's wrong in the organization and start the off-season with a plan.

This was already tried and Baalke, I believe, leaked or reported it to the league to get it stopped. The Jags already tried to hire him before to be the VP. Without the snake's head chopped off, it's going to keep surviving. Baalke would find some way to still be employed.

Vrabel is fine as a HC but he can't win on his own. The only way he will be successful is turning the offense over to a top OC. Whatever the Jags do, they need to hire the best OC they can. If the HC is a Vrabel type, VP controls the picks, and the Jags hire the best OC they can find, it may work.

I would be looking to pay the OC HC-1A money. As long as they are fine without the win/loss on their name, everyone would know they control the offense. It probably wouldn't work with egos, but it could make a great coaching staff.
