The thing I cant figure out is why we look so inept on the field. We have the same guys from last year for the most part, and even upgraded some spots (Morse over Fortner, Armstead on the D Line. Probly got worse in the secondary partially due to injury and letting Darious walk). I really cant help but think Doug is not preparing these guys adequately. I dont see how the team can regress this badly if its anything other than coaching.

I agree with this.  There's no hashing out anything with Doug.  He's gotta go too.  False starts, having delay of games (or having to waste time-outs to avoid delay of games), the inablility to get the play into quickly, and just the overall lack of any development anywhere on the offense is on Doug.  

I wonder if its the players (or QB in general) at fault for delay of game? To me blaming the coach for that seems far-fetched or there's something I'm missing in the middle of that process...

Yeah. Again, it's a broken record here, but, they need to go back to what worked in 2022 and 2023, install that into what they're trying to do that's new to this offense in 2024, and start from there. 

They have an identity problem and we know this offensive line is bad. It was also bad in 2022 and 2023...

It's frustrating that their having a midlife crisis three weeks into 2024. They have been in bigger holes before. This offensive staff and personnel that they have should be able to dig themselves out of this one shortly. 

Get back to what works. Moving the pocket. Buying him time. Deliberate intent with his legs. Layered concepts that give him short, mid and deep options on each play with at least one clear safety valve that's on his side of the field and cone of vision instead of 15 yards on the other side of the play. 

It's almost like they're afraid of getting him hurt again, maybe they gave themselves PTSD after Lawrence's knee injury on that odd call against the tacks late last year at home, but, you can't do that. He's just not a pure pocket passer and they need to stop trying to treat him like that. 

He has to move. He's a better thrower on the run. He's shown that routinely now throughout his career.

The bad thing about this is that Lawrence was supposedly in on this year's tweaks to the playbook to get more plays he feels good about. He supposedly went through the entire play book with Doug/Press/McCoy and had input of what to emphasize and what to throw out. 

While I love the fact they are finally running (lots) more play action and under center drop backs - the line is not protecting long enough on 40-50% of those attempts, and the execution from TL and his targets has been subpar to put it kindly. They have to dial it back a notch IMO. Just out of necessity to keep TL from IR. 

I don't know if there's much to be done to help on those long ball plays other than altering the added protections from TEs and backs, but the short and intermediate stuff we are running sure seems like it doesn't need to be littered with as many "high degree of difficulty" plays. Not when the offense has sputtered in circles for 3 weeks straight.

That's the first time I have heard this about Lawrence and his input. Is there a source to that? That would probably piss me off a little bit as a coach as well. Could be a case of the masters giving the student a bit of a learning lesson, since he's the $275M man now.

When 7 of your starting 11 players on offense have clearly regressed from their previous performance and look worse from week to week - I don't think it's unfair to put some blame on the coaches. 

Not that it needs to be a "fire everyone" situation, but this staff will almost certainly see a shake up in the off season at the bare minimum after starting the season this poorly. 

It would be a miracle if they even sniff the playoffs at this point.

Whenever any company or organization is flailing because of consistent mistakes, laziness, errors throughout the company, they don't solve that issue by firing/replacing all the employees. They fix it by firing/replacing the management. Especially when the management just had 3 years to pick or hold onto all the employees currently on the team.

Of all professional sports in the USA, the NFL is the most reliant on competent coaching.  You see it every year when coaches come in and change the narratives of failing teams.  You also see it every year when a coach is clearly out of his element.

I hope Doug takes some accountability and really makes the moves that got our team success in 2022.  But at this point, it's a toss up.    Either way, coaching matters.
