Etienne “selling” in the shotgun

#1

We have to figure this out. Can somebody post a gif/meme or whatever it is, about 3 or 4 of his attempts to block a blitzing defender while in the shotgun.

This boy ain’t even tryin’

What’s crazy is the oline is doing their job on these plays and Etienne is selling.

Maybe we see more Tank if it keeps up?

He tried and ended up getting hurt. He's not cut out for it. Hate to say it, but, this front office and coaching staff have drafted and developed a bunch of [BLEEP].

A lot of "Looks like Tarzan, plays like Jane" types on this roster. Especially at the skill position groups. When was the last time anybody caught a pass or took a hand off and trucked somebody on this offense?

PED's would be better, OTA's don't matter with this football team.

At this point, asking him to pass block is going to result in him getting CTE.

It is pretty [BLEEP] we can't trust him to help back there when/if needed. Can we put Ventrell Miller back there instead? He'll thump somebody. I bet he can do it.

Not even joking man. We'll call it the Venny, Vidi, Vici Package. The Not So Miller Lite Package.

I was noticing this also. Blitz PU by Etienne is atrocious. Which those little things complicate the whole picture. It's time to consider moving on.

Said it in another thread with one of my rants. Since we're seeing folks calling for Press Taylor's head? And Rauscher's head for poor line play? Why are we not going after the RB coach?

Jerry Mack's guys are now responsible for:

24 - 7 swing in the opener potentially after Etienne's fumble.
A lead being taken at home in our opener with EJ's illegal procedure negating Kirk's TD catch.
Poor pass protection throughout the season, most noticeably now in the loss in Houston.

These are things people should be nitpicking at for the rest of the year. When the morale is down? When the guys are in a slump? Each positional coach owns a portion of this roster and they're all getting paid a handsome salary I am sure to do so.

If you go back and watch the highlights of the Texans game, he starts his crap on the play where Trevor over threw Kirk on 3rd down.

He didn’t even attempt to block, and it caused Trevor to rush his throw which caused the over throw.

I don’t know if I’d put Miller back there but I’d put a guy like Strange or Ferrell. Even when Etienne decides to try, he gets boom sticked which clogs everything up.

It’s not just “oh well, Etienne stinks at pass pro” this dude is causing the play to break down due to his lack of effort, ability, awareness, etc.

I'm not much on firing people.  But Tank deserves more run of Etienne is going to whiff so bad.  Especially with Tank running well.  You deal with the whiffs when he's leaps and bounds above his competition but with Tank performing you let the little things away snaps.

CRANK THE TANK

It just comes down to the fact that the offense doesn't utilize the players we have in the best way...  I don't get why, but it's the case.

Tank has been looking like a beast for 4 games.  And yet he isn't the featured back.

And then!!  And then!!!  When he runs for 50 yards, they don't sub him out, but let him try up the middle 2 times in a row.

It's just stupid personnel placement.  It's on coaching.  It has been for 2 seasons now.

I don't think I've ever seen ETN or Tank throw a great block in pass pro

Johnson has thrown a few in his limited opportunity

That's poor player development

In 2022 we had James Robinson.  He was a pretty good blocking back.  Not as gifted as ETN, but he got his nose bloodied to protect in pass rush.

It's just frustrating that we can't do better with the players we have.  I don't doubt that Khan was right that is is the most talented team since he's been the owner.  The fact that we can't develop this team and but them in the best places to win kills me.

Hopefully we can turn this around.  We have the talent.  We just need to get the coaches to put them in the best scenarios to actually pull through a win.

LOL.  An outlier analytic that makes no sense when things come closer to the mean.

I've been the biggest Tank Bigsby supporter even back in 2023.  Even while he was making bad mistakes and fumbling the ball.

I see this as another flaw in Press' offense. He always talks about how every player on our offense should be able to do every job on the field. Well guess what? Etienne is tiny. He's a glorified scat back. I understand that NFL backs need to be able to pass block. But you also have to play to players' strengths. Etiene is a shifty and agile purely skill player. His tremendous receiving ability makes up for his lack of pass pro in my opinion. I get that we don't want to be predictable by using other backs to pass block but guess what? we already are predictable. Time to use tank and DJ.
