Tank Bigsby as a starter?
|
I'll be the first to say that I was wrong to write him off so quickly after his fumbling issues previously, but he has definitely turned things around for the better.
So much so, that I actually believe he would succeed better than ETN as the starter on offense - especially with how often opposing defenses manage to make contact in our backfield. Tank has impressed me with his patience, decisiveness, elusiveness, power and ability to fall forward so consistently. ETN has been slipping quite frequently on his runs so I don't know what is going on but he might need to play with longer studs - if it's not a balance issue/foot injury. Regardless, I'd like for Tank to take over the starting position at RB and have ETN spell him on passing downs where I think we should utilize Travis on motions/jet sweeps/swing plays. As I mentioned in another thread, but I legitimately thought I would never utter the following statement but I genuinely believe Tank is playing much better than ETN at this point - and our offense desperately needs to focus on what little things that might be working for them. I think tank looks good because of etn. It’s the change of pace that is good for the both of them.

Gotta agree, but again having two RB that are almost night and day different furthers the point that we have no clue what we intend to do as a team offensively. For those new to the game, that's bad.
Not opposed. ETN is soft, unreliable, suddenly slow, and has a game that depends on a sound line to be effective. He is a dime a dozen.
ETN, almost as good as Carson Steele for only 100t the cost!

Etienne or Bigsby are terrible at picking up the blitz. The only TD came under center of playaction.

This is what kept Bigsby off the field last year not the 2 fumbles. ETN also fumbled twice his first year. In fact the one ETN fumble this year was more egregious than either of Bigsby's last year. ETN is about the same picking up the blitz year over year. Bigsby has improved to that level and actually may have a higher ceiling. The answer is not to start him, it is to increase his carries a bit as long as this progression is occurring.

Etienne seems to slip in every game now. In critical situations at that. Like the one inside the endzone last Sunday against the Browns. He did it early last night against the Bills. I figured they would try and start running him into the dirt this year, since his contract extension is coming up soon. I expect them to tag him and give him the Barkley treatment.
Again, Bigsby was selected in the third round to eventually replace him outright. Who knows, if it's not this year, it's more than likely next year where Bigsby becomes what Etienne was to Robinson two years ago. He'll slowly see himself phased out of the starting line-up via touches and then he'll get shipped off for a late RD selection. ![]() "What do I know of cultured ways, the gilt, the craft and the lie? Tank should start. He is displaying all the tools. he has vision, speed, moves, and is hard to bring down. Etienne is a great player too, but he is better as a third down pass catcher sort of back. It's all a committee, but I think Tank needs more touches. He is making game breaking plays.

I just don't get why Johnson is getting reps at times... That facemask call, in my opinion, was total trash. But why not have ETN or Tank in that play?
Either way, what I'm trying to say is that Tank and ETN are a great combo. Not quite Taylor and MJD in 2007, but they are really good together. Just keep using those 2. They both have great attributes. Johnson is too raw to have in on that facemask play. Were ETN and Tank bruised up or hurt on that specific play? I doubt we'll know. But having Johnson in was a head scratcher for me.

Doug will use them both along with Johnson. Tank got 13 runs and one pass today. ETN got 8 runs and 6 passes today. So both got 14 touches. Seems about right to me.
