I vote for Dewey Wingard to start at SS

I think I misheard Lags. I would still start him over Jenkins.

Maybe we could get some 3 safety looks with Dewey, Cisco, and Jenkins?

I think in certain zone situations, having all 3 on the field could work to our advantage.  I actually think I saw Dewey in with Cisco and Jenkins a time or two during the KC game.  I was drinking at the time, so don't hold me to it...

I saw the same thing. I don't remember if they explained it but you also saw it then it probably happened

He had at least one tackle on a low snap count.

I'll check snap counts when they are posted. Either way - Jenkins sure seems motivated to stick around at SS

As much as I malign Jenkins coverage ability - he has shown a knack for being in position to capitalize on bad throws, tipped passes and busted routes.  Up and down vs the run, but makes an eye popping play from time to time. He's making what seemed an easy cut not so easy.

Need Dewey and Campbell back. Hopefully he can come back after London?

Why not.  It's not like the past six games we haven't made a lot of errors late in games defensively.  SOMETHING has been wrong with both the coverage and the QB pressures.

Maybe it's the safeties.  One way to find out.  Change it up.

This thread is from two years ago

I have no idea if Wingard is healthy enough to play - but I'm not confident we'd get better results that way.

Johnson and Cisco have not been playing good. I’m surprised like I’m sure a lot of people are.

I'm surprised Cisco hasn't been good this year because he has shown in the past he can be a very good safety at times.  His poor play this year has been one of the biggest surprises for me.  Hopefully he starts picking it up because I know he has the talent.

Great leader, terrific backup and special teams ace. He can fill in as a starter and play well in spots but he's not any kind of long term answer. And I just don't know how he'll recover from the injury, that remains to be seen. I think we'll eventually see Dewey coaching on the sidelines somewhere in the not too distant future, he just seems like one of those guys.
I'm condescending. That means I talk down to you.

Agreed, its looking like safety will be one of our biggest needs in the offseason

i think Cisco regression is connected to the defense scheme coaching. yesterdays game he has a amazing stretch breaks up a pass, then gives up a 70 Yd touchdown as he was the only safety in the back and on opposite side of the field from the Go route.

What would it look like with Gipson at FS and Cisco at SS? I'm for anything that gets Antonio Johnson off the field, he isn't ready for prime time. The secondary should feel ashamed after what they almost gave up yesterday. It was good to have Savage back, something is still missing in the secondary and it isn't just because Buster Brown is in the lineup. Also, realize this thread is from 2022, but sometimes problems take ages to get rid of.

Hopefully they're breaking down film this week of those bad coverage busts deep down field.. that really can't happen especially when you're protecting a lead late in the game.  It happened TWICE.

He's been inconsistent.

And I don't think good safeties need to put on that much muscle, but that's just me.

Brandon Scherff is no longer that dude.   Next season I want him gone.

Cisco looks uncharacteristically slow this year.

I don't know if its some sort of lingering injury or if he's bulked up way too much. Either way, he is way too slow on his approach angles and ends up getting beat.

I can’t believe how bad Cisco and Johnson are. Cisco more so because it’s a contract year, but man he’s slow and takes horrible angles. I wrote off the tyreek hill one because that’s the cheetah, but he’s getting barbeque chicken’d out there on a consistent basis.

I want this to be true.  I think Cisco played his best game Sunday, despite the TDs.  I think maybe he's getting more confortable with Neilsen's scheme.  Of course, it could also be that we were playing a lot more zone coverage yesterday...

I don't know, I just want Cisco to get back to his old self.  We're gonna need him for our wildcard playoff run.

That's a good problem to have.
