Can we talk about the D?

We have tiny D energy.

Wow

Darnell Savage played most of his snaps at nickel, dude.
He also got burned like hell by Tyreek in the phins second drive but Tua overthrew him on what would have been a certain TD.

The safeties were Johnson and Cisco.
Might help if you had a clue what you were watching.

But how can he blame it on Press Taylor? That's the REAL question!

Watching the game highlights again, 2 things really stood out with the D. 24 points given up in the 4th Q and 2 TD's in 3 minutes. I know we have injuries but that needs fixing ASAP

The other was Nielsen's reaction to the TD that tied it up. Not sure I've seen a co-ordinator react like that before. A mix of shock, anger, guilt. Looked like he wanted the ground to swallow him.

Lots of blown coverages at the end of the game. Three in a row to close it out basically. Looked like none of the backfield knew where they were supposed to be. And they all looked rough most of the game too. They looked slow.
My fellow southpaw Mark Brunell will probably always be my favorite Jaguar.

Yeah it was. I'm not sure what it was. Lack of communication, blown plays, struggling to execute the calls, bad calls. No idea.

I know we have a lot of backups in at the moment but Cisco is struggling at the mo and got pretty beat on that first of those late TD's.

Armstead has been playing DE, for whatever reason.

I’ve noticed him at DE too, on one play they ran an end around or jet sweep to his side and he took the wrong step inside and the okay bounced outside for a long first down.

He’s just been a disappointment with that contract so far.

Hamilton is doing ok, but none of them are collapsing the pocket or getting active. Walker has proven he’s a DE but man I would like to see him over a guard for a couple of series here and there.

I thought it was that he wanted to throttle someone who blew their coverage, but knew he'd catch a charge after the game. That was 1000% the "I'm not mad, I'm.....disappointed" dad reaction.

Regarding the Armstead talk:
It looks like he's playing maybe 30%-40% of his snaps at DT - the rest outside to my unofficial eyeball test.
Is anyone else seeing that?

I don't notice him inside very often at all - but the numbers on the snap counts suggest he's there more often than I see him.

Hope he starts to make more impact. I assume he's on a pitch count, but... we're gonna need his help.

At safety:

I feel like something's gotta give ASAP

Johnson just a'int it. Not ready or not cut out for this scheme. Missing open field tackles badly and getting beat up by TEs.

Cisco looks like a regressed guy that ALSO can't adapt to the new scheme.

They have some options on the roster.  Nielsen should act now, but something tells me they drag their feet on this.

Cisco looks like he got too big. He's a step slow on just about every play.

I would look to make a move for a safety at the trade deadline.

I think Savage and Gipson get some looks there before they make any moves, though there might be some guys available for one of those 3rd day picks Baalke likes to waste. A couple blue chip type trades could be in the offing for Greg Newsome II in cleveland and Hassan Reddick from the jests. I'd make a move for either one of those before moving on a safety. I also think JHA is suffering from putting on additional weight, so you could be right about Cisco there too! They just look slow, but it might be too much thinking and not enough reacting.

I'm not counting the snaps, but just from watching it seems/looks like Armstead is at DE far more than he's at DT.

There is no doubt our secondary play is concerning. It seems like the past couple of weeks our o line and d line have responded to the criticism of their play. O line put together two solid performances and even though we didn’t get stroud to the ground we had him in our clutches quite a bit and obviously walker had a great game against the clots.

I’m hoping that our secondary responds against the bears after being the clear unit holding the team back against the clots in similar fashion. Not saying they are going to shut down the pass this week. But at least play with focus, eliminate the busts, and finally get some turnovers. But I do think we may seriously need to evaluate personnel at the safety spots. Some mentioned Savage has experience there with the packers. Might be worth looking at him in place of Johnson if we feel like we can live with Jarrian at the nickel.

I think if the defense can play more like it did against the tinhorns, browns, and dolphins for the stretches that they played well, we might be able to force the bears into some turnovers. Caleb has made some head scratching throws this year… and all it’s gonna take is one or two bad reads or a fumble here or there to really give us some momentum. And we are due for some.

It's been talked about a lot on twitter, but a lot of our guys have bulked up and they look slow with the same mental mistakes we've made in the past few seasons.

Still not worried about the secondary. I think have faith that we expose Caleb.

The first Quarter, the secondary looked lost against the clots. But they kept the game close in the 2nd and 3rd quarter to the point we were up by 2 scores in the 4th. The D then went prevent mentality, and gave up 2 TDs. I think we'll be fine.

This team, even in the secondary has talent. They just need to lock in and focus. Neilsen will have these guys humming in London.

JJ did have a really good game against the Colts. I can't think of any of the Colts plays that JJ gave up. Hopefully he gets the start at nickel Sunday and Savage is at safety

He only played 19 snaps, but they were good snaps.
Hopefully he's ready for more.

How could you not be worried about the secondary?

Without Campbell, everyone is playing out of position. Cisco stinks. Antonio Johnson may be the worst safety in the league at the moment. Savage is good but if there’s a weak link on this defense, it’s 100% the secondary and it’s not close.
