I just saw Calvin Ridley's stats this year. The Titans paid him $20+ million a year. We more than likely would of passed on BJT if Ridley was retained. You know Baalke was eyeing some linebacker with a torn ACL with that pick.
Ridley has 9 catches for a 141 yds and 1 td this season. We were like Neo dodging the matrix bullets in this situation. We show less advertisements to registered users. Accounts are free; join today! He provided solid production and drew in more PI flags than anybody else if I am not mistaken for this offense. For somebody that had been out of football for roughly two seasons I thought he caught on well. He had a few miscommunication flubs and some drops that could have made the difference in being 9 - 8 or 10 - 7 and just making it into the play-off's for the second year in a row as AFC South Champions. The situation up there is also different. New head coach, new system, no QB really. Ridley was overpaid, for sure, however, his lack of production doesn't fall squarely on him. The Falcons took Braelen Trice, EDGE from Washington with the 74th overall selection. I don't think he's added anything to the stat sheet for them yet. We maybe could have added an OL there if needed. It is what it is. ![]() "What do I know of cultured ways, the gilt, the craft and the lie? I, who was born in a naked land and bred in the open sky. He was coming off a two year hiatus and still put up really good numbers. He just wasn't what BTj is rapidly becoming, that athletic number 1 guy who just beats his man with his talent. If BTj becomes as good technically as Ridley he'll be the best WR we've ever had, and I say that as a huge Jimmy Smith fan. I'm glad that Ridley leaving opened up the door for Thomas, but we did lose a really good though different kind of player in the process. “An empty vessel makes the loudest sound, so they that have the least wit are the greatest babblers.”. - Plato

There are some route running things BTJ needs to clean up (which he will) that you mentioned but he’s already better as a deep ball pass catcher. He also seems to have an edge to him on the field. Quiet off the field but man he talks that talk on the field.

I do think Gabe Davis will start playing better as the season goes on but I would trade him for Ridley. I know Ridley is over paid and is making about 10 mil more a year than Davis but I think Ridleys style of play would match perfectly with what we have here and Ridley would be in his 2nd year in this offense. Ridley isn't the problem in Tennessee right now.
We could have signed Ridley and still taken both and not have added Gabe Davis. Either way we are ok.

Davis was used like the same way BTJ is being used here in more vertical down field routes The better our running game gets and when Engram comes back and starts playing well i think you see Davis start running more vertical routes and he will start getting shots down field and connecting with Trevor. The oline playing better will start helping as well. But yeah, Ridleys play style would fit in perfect with what we have here. If this run game continues to improve our passing game will get better and better as those safties and LBs will start cheating a bit. I hope we have a big day on the ground Sunday. Man I hope the oline continues to improve. (10-10-2024, 11:00 PM)OG-JAGFAN Wrote: I just saw Calvin Ridley's stats this year. The Titans paid him $20+ million a year. TLaw != Levis I never understood why they were spending like crazy, they don't even have a window to open yet. Nothing prevented us from signing Rid and still darfting BTJ. Heck at that rate, we mighta passed on Gabe. Davis left Josh Allen and the best he could pull was 40 catches a year on average. I just don't see a ton of upside with him and BTj is already better at the one thing Davis does than he is. Ridley would be even better this year with BTj on the other side, it would put him in the 2/Slot role that's more suitable for his technical game and athleticism. And yeah, I hope the line isn't a mirage. At that time it kind of made sense because we seemed like a player or 2 from being elite. Now, looking back, renting a player for 1 year for a #79 pick in the draft and not making the playoffs in the year the player was active, seems like a gamble that failed.
Now we're 1 defense, 2 coaches, and 4 offensive players away from being elite (10-11-2024, 08:59 AM)flsprtsgod Wrote:What is one thing Davis does even above average?(10-11-2024, 08:30 AM)flgatorsandjags Wrote: Davis was used like the same way BTJ is being used here in more vertical down field routes The better our running game gets and when Engram comes back and starts playing well i think you see Davis start running more vertical routes and he will start getting shots down field and connecting with Trevor. It's only been 5 games but I would try and package Davis and a 5th rounder for Jakobi Meyers.

He was brought here to give Trevor another deep threat, redzone target, and reliable veteran that can score. I'm not to concerned about Davis, I think they start to build chemistry soon.

We need that big bodied type WR like a Davis . Hopefully Press can start drawing some good plays up and we can use him in the redzone along with a few shots down field. If the oline improves we will have that opportunity soon and Davis will make some good plays for us. He averages 7 TDs a year so hopefully he starts finding the endzone soon. I could see him getring his first TD this week.
