Travon Walker: 2nd Year Thoughts Etc (merged)

Such a dumb idea. Not sure what the obsession is over this Hutchinson Vs. Walker argument. Hutchinson is the better pass rusher, for now. Walker still has a high ceiling and can continue to develop.

There's nothing going on with him right now to suggest otherwise. I personally think he's out played Josh Hines-Allen since the half way point of last year and going into this year. If anybody is trade bait, it's Hines-Allen in my opinion. Due to his contract and age alone.

You don't trade a guy that will be 24 years old this year towards the final stretch of the season where he's in year three with his 2nd defensive coach and new installment. Just looking at his numbers. He's already on pace to outshine what he's done as a rookie and from last year.

Rookie year - He had 3.5 sacks, 49 combined tackles, 24 solo, 25 assist's and 5 TFL's with 10 QB hits.

Last year - He had 10.0 sacks, 52 combined tackles, 27 solo, 25 assist's, 10 TFL's with 19 QB hits.

So far, this year, in just 5 games - He has 5.0 sacks, 18 combined tackles, 8 solo, 10 assist's, 5 TFL's with 7 QB hits.

He's clearly showing you a natural progression as far as becoming a well rounded player and that's in spite of having to learn and adjust to two different coaches now and systems. I forgot my original predictions but I think he's on par for 12.0+ sacks this year, AND, it wouldn't shock me one bit, NOT ONE BIT... if he comes back from across the pond with 10.0 total sacks on the year after these two games.

2.5 sacks against Caleb Williams and 2.5 sacks against Drake Maye are very, very doable for Walker against these offenses. Chicago really doesn't have much of a running game and New England really ONLY has somewhat of a running game and they can't really throw themselves out of a hole to save their lives.

These two games should be feasting time in October for not only Walker, but, also Hines-Allen, Armstead, Smith and Co.

Trading walker for two 4th rounders would be malpractice.

Yeah, the trade deadline always produces a metric ton of schlock from the talking heads.

If you're a team with a losing record approaching November, you'll be part of those ridiculous conversations.

The Jags won't be taking part in any fire sale of ascending players.

I seen this, dude is on crack.  Im not trading Walker and if we did it would be for nothing less than a 1st.  Walker has improved every year since being drafted and the sky is still the limit for him

Walker played so great last week. If Walker plays great again versus da beers, I hope we can finally make this thread go away.

I'm a huge Walker fan. He just keeps getting better and better.

Trevon Walker would be a very good fit to replace DE Marcus Davenport, who suffered a very likely season ending torn triceps injury in the Lions win over the Cardinals in the 3rd game of the season.  But it makes practically no sense for the Jaguars to trade Walker for two 4th Round picks.  Walker should be worth much more than that on the open market.   It's probably a moot point anyway, now that the Lions greater priority is to find the best possible replacement (based on cost/ value) for Aidan Hutchinson.

D6 ---- Hypothetical question.   Jags offer straight up trade Walker for Hutch.   How long does it take the Lions to say NO?   I say that would be their immediate response.  Do you agree?

Perhaps it's a quick no, but I do believe Travon is more well regarded around the league than typical fans realize for his overall skillset of being able to rush the passer while also being very effective against the run.

Yes.  Thankfully under the situation of Aidan Hutchinson's injury, he's currently expected to be fully recovered for the 2025 season.  I'm anticipating that Hutch will join WR Amon-Ra St. Brown, T Penei Sewell, and QB Jared Goff in receiving a long term contract extension with the Lions.

Agreed.  I think that Travon Walker's skill set fits what the Lions brass prefers as the primary DE opposite Aidan Hutchinson. With the option of using Walker inside in long yardage situation.

Good to see you around D6! Sorry about Hutchinson...

At least your cats are winning though and seem to be on the right track with Dan Campbell and Co.

Thanks, Caldrac!

The good news under the difficult position the Jaguars are in is that there's only 6 teams in the AFC that currently have winning records: Kansas City, Houston, Baltimore, Pittsburgh, Buffalo, and the LA Chargers. As much as I detest NFL Playoff Expansion to a 7th playoff team in each conference, there's still a path to the playoffs for the Jaguars if they substantially cut down on concentration / mental mistakes.  I don't view the Jags trading DL Roy Robertson-Harris to the Seahawks as the organization giving up on the season.  An example of why I believe this is the case is the Lions went 8-2 in the 2022 season, after a 1-6 start, and then the trade of TE T.J. Hockenson to the Vikings.

6 sacks in 7 games to this year. Should have more as well if it wasn’t for some penalties.

It's not just his sacks.

He's also really harassing the QB on most pass plays.

On top of that, he's 100% on run plays.  He never quits.  He's always the 1st or 2nd guy to the RB on run plays.

Walker deserves to get a 2nd Contract with us.  You don't let a guy like him go in Free Agency.

Walker could easily have 9 right now. 2 negated by penalties and 1 flacco thru away while being dragged down

Do you know how dangerous a spittake is when you are driving? Talk radio needs to warn listeners before airing balderdash like this to save drivers from avoidable accidents.

If we trade him, doesn't that accelerate all the bonuses to next cap? That's a MONSTROUS hit, and would be a death knell for the GM that just authored the deal. Not. Gonna. Happen.

Dude's the best D-Lineman we have. I'd prefer he doesn't go so wide on his rush but that's another discussion. Maybe he's not the best DE in the NFL, but he's always giving his best and he's always getting the most pressure of anyone on the line.

I like him. He's still someone I think we need to keep.

A 4th rounder. I’m not even showing up to the meeting for that offer.

He’s on pace for about 12 sacks this year. He creates a ton of pressure when he stunts and gets over a guard and flushed the QB out of the pocket.

He’s been our best DE and is probably our best IDL at the same time.
